The Story behind Clapton's sit-in with the ABB

Thanks very much for this, and for the link at the bottom!
That whole anniversary run at the Beacon was magical.Â
As you said, thanks to Butch and Moogis, I got to see it all.

Thanks Alan those Clapton appearances are just epic. I listen to those shows often.
I am reading your ABB book again right now and it one of the best.
Butch was a man ahead of his time with the Moogis concept and he gave us some amazing concert experiences.Â
I wish the band could offer these shows on DVD like the Munck Music audios.
Anyone knows what happened to all the Moogis videos and who owns the rights?

Thanks, Alan
What was it about the accuracy of Gregg's comments on the logistical end that made you insert that caption below?

@islalala Yes very good outline of the great 2009 shows with Clapton.Â
Maybe Gregg said Clapton was in LA and was on the highway trying to get to New York and a bass player pulled over and offered Clapton a ride and ended up taking Eric all the way to the front of the Beacon Theater!Â

Alan: As islalala mentioned, I am very curious as to what Clapton had to do to get to The Beacon in 2009. Your comment below Gregg's remarks about Clapton flying in from New Zealand indicates that Gregg was incorrect.

I have no idea of the logistics involved but Clapton played in Australia on March 10th and then London in May.Â

It's my understanding that Clapton flew in from his home in London. It was an understandable mistake because his last tour dates had been in Australia and New Zealand and I'm sure that was was part of th elogistical discussions of working out a date.

@alpaul: Thanks for the insight. New Zealand, London, doesn't matter. Clapton went way out of his way to be there, which shows how important ABB is in his eyes!

@robslob Especially when you realize Clapton is a bigger draw around the world and way wealthier than everyone in the Allman Brothers. He isn't a rich snob.
Similar to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards showing up at a club in Chicago to sit in with Muddy Waters. The footage use to be on YouTube. A tiny blues club but Mick and Keith, both worth over $300 million dollars, were there.Â

Â
Here is when Mick and Keith arrive at the small club in Chicago. Maybe not a big deal but to me it's amazing that such famous musicians would do this.Â

@robertdee:Â When you consider that The Rolling Stones were named after a Muddy Waters tune released in 1950, "Rollin' Stone", I don't it's all that surprising that Mick and Keith would show up at a Chicago club to pay tribute to their hero.

@robslob Yeah I see that too but I would have guessed Mick and Keith would have had Muddy on their show. Or leg of a tour. Maybe Mick and Keith would even give Muddy half of their take of a 12 show leg of a tour:)

My recollection is that Clapton had a house near his treatment center in Antigua, and that he was travelling back and forth between NY and there.

Thanks Al
Excellent read as always.
I can only imagine the discussions leading up to the shows at home. LOL
I know I would have been trying to slide out of the BDay Party. I love family but we are talking the ABB and Clapton. When you have to work, you occasionally have to sacrifice and miss some family functions. 🤣Â
