It occurred to me the first step for the Allman Brothers was Duane working with Wilson Pickett at Muscle Shoals.  Duane playing on Hey Jude is what began them getting a look and a record deal. Even Eric Clapton called Atlantic Records to inquire about who is the guitarist playing on Wilson Pickett's cover of Hey Jude!!
