I guess it's down to Billy now.  I think ZZ Top was the same band from the beginning until Dusty died.

Frank Beard was a heck of a drummer. I saw ZZ Top several times. First was them opening for Alice Cooper about 1973 or so. It was when they wore western cowboy outfits and Billy and Dusty didn't have beards. 

Billy F. Gibbons said today " A lot of larger bands don't make it 50 years and longer like we have. I think part of our longevity is we are a three piece. I only had two guys to argue with and those two often were cool with what I wanted to do". 

He also said they will continue just as they did when Dusty died.

A tremendous, rock steady rhythm machine for over 50 years.  Big loss for the rock world.  RIP Frank.
