Leroy Butler tells it like it is.
Thanks for the memories Aaron Rodgers but it is time to go. Nobody is bigger than the team

Am no fan but John Elway retires after a 28 year run in all phases of all things Broncos - Denver love is a mile high for their HOF QB
briefly, this is Gregg Popovich’s 27th year coaching Spurs but he was also an assistant for 4 yrs too - rare that long these associations w/1 team
Cam Neely -
haven’t always been a fan as head honcho, but same thing w/Cam - whether on the ice or upstairs, His #s Do All The Talking - plus no one ever played bettah for us than when he had 50 goals in 49 games that season
must mention Stevie Y too, player, coach, exec - they improved this year - still no playoffs after a record 25-year postseason run that ended in 2016
Mr Hockey, Detroit Hockeytown legend Gordie Howe, passed away that summer
Red Wings have been rebuilding since
returning to topic, had thought AR to Jets was a done deal - mayb it is, unsure, but there’s always a circus around AR12 - can’t blame him for retreating from it
apologies for hijacking the thread, but RIP, Ken Buchanan - he lost his title to Roberto Duran in 1972 at MSG on a low blow, a rotten break
same thing same venue 12 years later for Roberto - he thumbed Davey Moore causing his eye to shut, & Duran knocked him out - the thumb was inadvertent iirc
Finally, Bill Belichick, Dean Of Coaches for tenure - watch, Pats will be back next year🏈

Well, hell hath frozen over. Dan Snyder is selling the Washington Commies. For a sizable profit on what he bought them for when they were still a respectable franchise. It only took a Congressional investigation, several league investigations, decades of fan apathy, annual mediocrity, and a crumbling stadium that was brand spankin' new when he took over than now seats about 65% of what it originally did. Talk about failing upward.

Little over two hours till the first pick of the draft.

Leafs fired their GM - he was there five years - his record? 221-109-42 -
NYR great season, 107 points, 9th overall - coach, gone
cassidy obviously comes to mind (coach Udoka as well) - no Bruins fan would trade this season for anything, but he’s still in the playoffs & we’re not
NBA Bucks coach, same thing, best record in the league this year & the owners felt it didn’t amount to squat - he’d won a title & compiled a great record w/them -
big ongoing ups to coach Montgomery, 135 points, a new league record
just hope the fluke playoff exit doesn’t lead to his dismissal
let’s go Celts, it’s right at tip-off, tonite we smoke

No one was greater
retired at age 30 w/12,000+ yards & no regrets - just imagine if he’d played to 34 or 35 -
was also an elite NCAA lacrosse player & track and field athlete w/the Syracuse Orangemen
& the films - a longtime favorite is Ice Station Zebra -
greatest runner of all time, & is in the greatest movie of all time, Original Gangstas, from 1996
RIP #32, Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns

RIP #32, Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns
hehe - but any fan of the genre would agree😮😉
everyone who was anyone is in it - Jim, ex-NFL player Fred Williamson - Richard Roundtree (Shaft) - Ron O’Neale (Superfly) -
also Pam Grier, still hot as a member w/these others of the original Rebels which owned the streets of Gary IN back in the day - Pam broke w/Coffey, from 1973, then the Foxy Brown ones….
now these greats are back in town, disgusted by these new-age gun-toting young punks calling themselves the Rebels & trashing the name by looting, gang warfare w/rival gangs, executions etc…
& set about straightening the situation out original-Rebels style
Paul Winfield, Isabel Sanford, Charles Napier as Gary mayor, Wings Hauser as an on-the-take detective….
it’s a must-see in any genre - the music is really good, cool retro-y stuff & it’s got the Wordman Rap, the only rap song I can sing along to🤙🎵

Some thing never change.
the.
bears.
still.
suck.
I thought Love had a lot of promise in his first start and in relief against the Eagles last season. Doesn’t mean he will be good enough for the Jets to want him in 15 years (but probably) but 38 pts is pretty good debut. Of course, the Bears aren’t a litmus test especially with Justin Fields looking like Jay Cutler today, but a good throw is a good throw. And the D looked solid.
Lions-Packers should be a battle again.

Jay Cutler? Yikes! I think that could be a tad harsh. Their offensive line is still not that good. I think one lineman had three penalties. The fact that he ran for as many yards as he did I think is proof of that. Many of his rushing yards are not on designed plays. They are out of necessity. But that fumble was terrible.
The local media already has people thinking this will be a repeat of last year. There are some good quarterbacks in next year's draft. I think it is a bit of rash thinking but hey, they are the Bears and that is just what they do. I took the under for their season win total. Over 7.5? No way at all.

You're right. Cutler would have had 3 INTs instead of 1 lost fumble and 1 PICK6. I'm sure Fields can toss a few more our way next time 😉
Totally way too early to get excited or down on anyone, still 16 games to go.

Not getting too excited yet but nice start to the season for Jordan Love and the Packers.
Oline was stellar as Love had all day to throw and the Dline dominated.
Looking forward to next week against the Falcons. They are a heavy run offense so we will See if the Packers D has fixed their horrible run D.
Damn Rodgers out after just four snaps with an ankle injury on a sack. Just showed him going in for examination wearing a boot on his foot. He is going to miss that Packer Oline this year and take some lumps as the Jets struggle to protect.
We need him to play 65% of the snaps to get the Jets #1 draft pick next year. Not a promising start.

Rodgers has a possible Achilles injury and will have a. MRI today. Season in jeopardy

Complete achilles tear. Done for 2023. That really sucks for him.
And that's just the most JETS thing ever.

Well, you Packer lovers you, I would definitely be happy. Love looked quite good, although you have to consider the fact that Da Bears suck and they have no defensive line. On the quite happy side, you won a division game. On the road. Regardless if that was Da Bears or not, that's what happened.
And Bob, you sound like a disgruntled Bears fan!

I thought da Bears just sunk a lot of money into revamping their defense signing 5 veterans?
I would not be too hard on them a Green Bay has a top 5 OL so they protect the QB well. Add to that Love getting the ball out reasonably fast making it more challenging to get pressure on him.
He is not like Rodgers who holds the ball forever waiting for the big play.
In any case it was a good win for the young Packers on the road and a nice first game for Love to build off of.
They p l ay the Falcons next who were a sub 0.500 team last year so it would be nice to come into week 3 at home 2-0.

I have posted this before, but I don't hate the Bears. They actually intrigue me because they are entertaining. The fans and media here just make me laugh. I admire their fandom but with that comes unrealistic optimism. There was this guy that used to post on this site and he and I were somewhere for an ABB-related show when Rex Grossman I think it was, go down with an injury. I thought this guy was going to cry.
Back to your Pack, don't be shocked if you are alone in first come Monday morning. Vikings have no shot tomorrow, Bears are underdogs on the road, and Seattle scares me against my Lions. I hope I am wrong about Detroit but I am not giving 6 points.

Week 1 isn't a great barometer of where teams are at, especially with 17 games and 7 playoff spots. Some really good teams sleep on the opener, some lay it all out on their first game. The really good teams snowball as the season goes on.
Short week for Philly and MN, anything could happen. Lions could surprise everyone for these first few weeks.

Well no, it's only been one week as you said. But after this week, a team's record can be a good barometer of the chances of making the playoffs as you probably know. The chances of a team making it in if they start 0-2 are not good. Since 1990, only 11.5% of teams starting 0-2 made the playoffs, and only three have won The Super Bowl. And yes I had to look that up! 😉I see about 10 teams that have a reasonable playoff shot that need to win today and four are 'dogs.
Of course, now they added a playoff team in each league so you could argue that those are meaningless numbers. But you still don't want to start the season in a hole.
Gotta love football weekends in the fall!

What is up with Da Bears pumpkin orange uni's? They look like a college team
Jordan Love looking very comfortable this week so far. Three TD's to rookie receivers. I wonder if Rodgers would have even thrown to them if they were even starting if he was still on the team
So much for Barry's defense adjusting to the run as they are getting gashed. They are lucky to have only given up one two TD's so far.
Edit: Packers should have won this game but the bad defense and the offense in not doing anything in the 4th Quarter sealed their fate.
Can't get too upset as they are a young team but they need a better effort from the dfense.
So much talent wasted by Barry.

And they play like a high school team.
Disappointing day for you and me. Both the Pack and Detroit could have won. Glad GB lost though. I figured they could go into Atlants and win.
Detroit just made a few too many stupid mistakes and they still struggle on defense.
As I said about teams starting 0-2, Chargers and Cincy find themselves in that position. If they lose next week they are done.

That game made me want to claw my eyeballs out. Can you imagine if the Bucs wore their creamsicles too?
Good learning game for GB - you have to play all 4 quarters. The offense took their foot off the gas and the defense ran out of steam. Not a bad game considering they were down their starting RB and WR on the road, but you have to finish.

@porkchopbob yeah they are the youngest team in the NFL so growing pains are expected.
The fact they were up by 12pts starting the 4th quarter against an improved team shows their promise. There is a lot of talent on the team that just needs experience. I am excited by the future.
That being said Barry is wasting the defensive talent. How Even LaFleur was critical on how they were gashed. How much longer will he protect his buddy?

There is some satisfaction watching the Browns' decision to sign Deshaun Watson backfire

@bill_graham the defense could still come together, like you said lots of talent. The offense left the D on the field for a long time late in the game, they got gassed and run over. If they haul in those 2 dropped INTs it's a different game.

@nebish and seeing Baker Mayfield having some success in TB. I still don't know what the Browns were thinking.

Posted by: @nebishThere is some satisfaction watching the Browns' decision to sign Deshaun Watson backfire
I think Watson will play good this season - the task is more difficult now w/out Chubb - how is their OL, it’s the critical ? imo (as it is for most teams🏈)
but we saw what Deshaun could do w/Hou - he’s a good player
yep a good start in TB for Maker Bayfield

Watson was good in Houston, statistically, but he played in a weaker division and what did he ever really lead them to? Just a bunch of nice looking stats. And he hasn't been able to recapture that. Maybe we can give him a pass for last year for the rust. And week 1 because of the weather. And last night because I don't know why, but at some point that trade is going to get measured as a success or failure and I would say it is trending badly for the Browns. Plus the negative PR that comes with the baggage he has.
Cleveland's OL is very good. They lost one of their starters week 1 for the season, but the have good depth, although some of it is young, like they drafted some Ohio State kid first round I think and he wasn't being asked to start, but probably is now. I think Brown's fans still feel good about their OL. But with a player like Watson and his style, and the philosophy of Stefanski and his offensive style and fit, they changed how they were running the O because of a guy like Watson, who likes to run around until the last possible second like it is the final play of the game all the time. There is something to be said for passing and releasing in rhythm and reading the defense and not making every play a fire drill.
Baker is kind of like that, but I actually feel he is a better QB right now (and last year even) than Watson. Watson's stats in his hay-day were nice and Baker isn't that, but Baker's play is above NFL average. He's going to have a bad game and maybe soon. Still, the one year he was healthy in Cleveland he took them to the playoffs and won a game in those playoffs. Tampa is older, but they still have a lot of good players, just their OL was the issue. Maybe at the end of the year we'll see they played the two worst teams from the NFC North because Minnesota might be a dumbster fire at some point and the Bears suck again. Tampa beats New Orleans on the road this week, Saints aren't great, but Tampa wins that game, they'll be cooking with gas then.

Seriously?!?! Do you think anyone would trade Watson for Mayfield? I highly doubt it. I think his best play was for part of one season with L.A. But you are probably more tuned into Cleveland than I am.
Oh, Tampa plays Philly this week and N.O. is in Green Bay. I think you were off one week. Maybe after this week, that could certainly happen. Not trying to be a know-it-all all.
