Not apologizing to anyone, it's just a manner of speaking. The articles you posted are interesting I guess. I've tired of him a long time ago.
In other news, the Bears keep intriguing me. Getting another wide receiver yesterday? They are building up the pieces but who is going to throw the ball? Hmm...

Well, the Bears made their decision. Wow, a sixth-rounder is all they got for Fields (I doubt it will beome a 4th). And apparently, he is going to be a backup. The Bears kind of messed him up in my opinion. Can't wait to hear the Chicago media and fans weigh in on it. The fans love him for the most part.

That's a good move for the Steelers, Fields can sit behind Wilson until his wheels fall off. If he doesn't pan out for them, no big loss.

Even if it would turn into a fourth round pick that means the Steelers got him for very little compensation in return and he's their starting QB probably well into the future. The "Steelers" stole him.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

I liked Fields, he's a great athlete. Biggest problem is he could never see the field - he missed seeing a lot of open receivers. They just spent money on more top receivers, so they need someone who will see them when they are open. A better offensive line would help also. Not so sure about the USC QB - they are making it seem like he's a head case off the field ...

Well, they're changing the kickoff rules again.
During the 2024 season, kickers will continue to kick from the 35-yard line, but the other 10 players on the kickoff team will line up at the receiving team's 40-yard line. At least nine members of the return team will line up in a "setup zone" between the 35- and 30-yard lines. Up to two returners can line up in a "landing zone" between the goal line and the 20-yard line.
No one other than the kicker and returner(s) can move until the ball hits the ground or hits a player inside the landing zone. Touchbacks will be marked at the 30-yard line, and no fair catches will be allowed. In the event a team wants to attempt an onside kick, it will have to inform officials of its intent and would then be allowed to use the NFL's traditional formation. No surprise onside kicks will be allowed.
Maybe they should just get rid of it, all possessions start at the 25 yard line. Any time something becomes overly complicated, it usually isn't worth it.

@porkchopbob very strange convoluted rule that evidently is being adopted from the XFL version.
Good article with short clips showing how it will look.
Interesting the Packers may be one of the teams to most to gain from the change with Allpro return man Nixon but yet voted against it.
Maybe because their special teams coverage generally sucks?

RIP Roman Gabriel - yes when they had the Fearsome Foursome on D
& Roman running the show on O barking signals over center at QB
…the LA Rams were all the stuff back in the day - xmpl, who can forget Tony Gillory’s blocked punt that shocked the mighty GBPackers
one of the greats w/an ‘iconic’ name

I saw that on a sports ticker. Tried to dig out some old football cards because I just know I have a couple of cards of him from the end of his career. Couldn't find them. I figured he was in The HOF, but he isn't. And he has more passing yards than Staubach, Griese and another HOFer. Bradshaw maybe. That seems like a misjustice.

you gotta get more organized @Lee!
Photo of most the individual major issues. I have the others in the year by year set binders. 62, the black border is his rookie, 78 was his final as a player

Jets, Lions, Broncos, and Texans all unveiled new 2024 uniform sets this month. The Jets and Lions essentially cleared the board and returned to their 1980s uniforms, with the exception of the Lions including a required ugly black uniform that looks like a knock off Panthers jersey. They're not the first team to dip its toe into Nike's hands just to walk it back a few years later - the Browns, Buccaneers, Vikings, Jaguars, Falcons, all tried it and said "no thank you" as soon as they could re-do them.
The Broncos and Texans, meanwhile, embraced Nike's kitchen sink design aesthetic and they're both a step backwards. The Broncos don't look as bad, but it's not much of a change. They could be mistaken for Syracuse or Auburn. The Texans' look like a hot mess, but they never really had much of an identity even after 20 years in the league.
I don't want to sound like uniform design should stay the same as it was circa 1987, but Nike's modern designs are just such a mess. They already made college football teams look like crap, do they have to muck up the pros too?
The Broncos did include a 1980s throwback, it will be interesting to see how often they wear that.

So what do folks think about night one of the draft? Some thoughts:
What the hell was Atlanta thinking?!?!?!
The Bears couldn't have asked for a better draft.
275,000 people in downtown Detroit? Wow, I guess we are excited. I loved their move up a few slots to get a very good CB.
Vikings got their QB and didn't really give up too much to get him.
Bo Nix at 12? Hmm, seems like a desperation move.
I'll be watching tonight. Still a lot of good players left!
I will also add that the draft was kind of boring. Where were all of the exciting trades?

As usual Green Bay's pick was not sexy or the one the fans wanted or the "experts" predicted but the Packers needed depth on the OL and G/T Jordan Morgan fits their profile of versatile very athletic players.
Interesting the player all the "experts" were projecting and fans wanted, safety Cooper DeSean, was not picked day 1.
With 4 picks tonight in rounds 2/3 the Pack has a chance to add some talent and depth and GM Gute has had excellent drafts the last couple years so I have faith he will bring in some talent to build on last year's success.
It is a good time to be a Packer fan!

Milwaukee & Chicago will receive similar economic boosts with a like # of people in town for the summer political conventions
the recent eclipse was equally beneficial to the economies in northern NE - there were a LOT of people in the path of totality - they were stoked, so were many merchants
yes a lot of players left for the 2nd night of the NFL draft - hoping Browns & Pats improve from the 2024 draft

Yeah it seemed a bit strange the Falcons drafted a QB after signing Cousins but maybe they are following GB's blueprint of getting the talent now to sit and learn from a veteran to get ready for the future.
Penix is talented but needs more seasoning just as Love did when the Pack drafted him.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next couple of seasons.

The Bears couldn't have asked for a better draft.
Atlanta probably thought Cousins is 35 yo and often injured, and remembered GB did this with both Rodgers and Love. I think it's a smart pick.
And aren't the Bears always beaming like a new dad on draft day only to get stomped on the next season?
You can never have enough solid OL, I like the Packers' pick.

Agree about Atlanta, Penix is a talent so they have the luxury to let him sit and learn for several seasons behind Cousins. I would be surprised if Cousins finishes his 4 year contract with Atlanta before they cut him to save cap space and give Penix his chance.
This contract is front loaded so the Falcons can cut him in 2026 and save $32.5 mill on the cap.
Gute knows our SB chances go through Jordan Love so have to protect our new franchise QB so it was a wise pick. I expect he will draft a couple of more Olineman having 11 picks.
Still a lot of choice defensive players still on the board so think Gute will load up with our 4 picks in rd 3&4 tonight.
Would not be surprised to see him move up in rd 2 to grab a safety/ CB, and use later picks for DL and off ball LB

I listened to some of the pundits last night about Penix and that was my initial thought too: grooming for the future like GB has done. Fair enough. On the other hand, Atlanta can win now. They are in a terrible division and have a shot at a lot of success. So why not pick someone to help you now? Even if they did want him I figured they could have moved down a bit but the way QBs went this year, I guess you grab a QB if you really like him.
Your Packers got a very good RB.
Glad my Lions picked two additions to the defensive backfield, their undoing last season.
And yes Bob, Bears fans are hopelessly optimistic all the time! Kind of admirable but not too realistic historically.
The NFC North is going to be very competitive this season. It wasn't too long ago that it was kind of a joke it seemed. Heck, the Lions and Bears would be out of it before the season even started.

@lee Ron Wolf used to say you take the best player available, don't draft for needs. Cousins knew when he signed with Atlanta it would be his last stop.
I don't get why some people are making such a big deal about it. Remember when teams had good backup QBs? Wolf drafted Ty Detmer, Doug Pederson, Mark Brunell, Matt Hasselback all to backup Favre in the 90s, long before Ted Thompson drafted Rodgers. Favre was in his prime then, while clearly Penix is the near future for ATL, but Cousins should stop looking over his shoulder and be happy counting his money while RGIII is on year 5 of doing podcasts.

Can't have a draft without kickers and punters being drafted, right? I can NOT believe the Bears took a punter in the fourth round I think it was. They had all of four picks and they took a punter? At least he played at Iowa so I'm sure he got lots of practice as bad as their offense was.
I think I saw a few kickers get picked too. Hey, the Raiders picked Sebastion Janikoski in the first round and Detroit took Jason Hanson in the second. Who knows?

It was a couple of years ago but one team actually drafted a long snapper in the seventh round.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Probably the Bears. I think theirs has been there forever.
I read an article earlier this week and the writer was making the argument that it is better to go undrafted than to get picked in say, the 7th round. You can negotiate with any team you want, and he went into the financials of it which made sense. A lot of guys go unsigned after the draft and sign with teams. I think Sam Darnold just did.
