@bill_graham technically they had a few other starters when Rodgers was injured (Tolzein, Flynn, Senneca Wallace, Brett Hundley), but point taken. Been a nice run since 1992.

Remember Sports Illustrated? Of course we all do, the pioneer of sports journalism (and Swim Suit specials and football phones).
Well, ever since it was sold off (it used to be owned by TIME back when AOL TIME WARNER was a thing) it's been a hot mess, even getting in trouble for utilizing AI reporters. Today its parent company (which also owns 5-hour Energy) laid off everyone.

Seriously, how hard is it to report on sports? It's kind of sad, even though most print magazines can't keep up with 24-hour snarky sports new cycle, I still appreciate diving into a nice long sports article when I find one. Those are few an far between these days.

Yeah I wasn't counting backups as most QB's get hurt at some point. Hopefully Love keeps the streak going.

Probably more amazing than the Steelers only having three coaches in their entire history! That's pretty amazing. I don't know what Love's contract situation is. I think they have another year on his rookie deal, then they franchise him maybe? See how he does before he gets the big bucks.
The Bears I think are in a similar situation with Fields. They have a few options. Trade the number one pick and stick with him? In another year they have to back up the Brinks truck. Keep the first pick and save money on the contracts and hope the guy works out? Plus the whole coordinator thing. On the street, people want to keep Fields. I would trade him and keep the first pick. Do they want to be the team that traded the number one pick twice?

The Steelers have had 3 coaches over the past 55 seasons, but they had 16 coaches since the team was founded in 1933.

@lee Love signed a one year contract for next year for $22.5M which is a bargain if he keeps up the high level of play.
Will be interesting if they back up the Brinks truck after the season or wait as you said to see a bit more performance next season and franchise him if he puts up big numbers.
Considering he had a 5 game stretch early in the season, before the offense clicked, where he had 5tds and 8 picks his season ending stats are even more impressive to me so I think they get a mega contract done before next season.
They have 2 more years of Rodgers dead money and big contract $$$ for Bahktiari and Jones in 2024 so cap space may be tight unless they release them or restucture those contracts again and kick the money down the road. Will be interesting to see what the Pack does.
Tough decision for the Bears on Fields. He has a ton of talent so the question for me is was his lackluster performance the result on poor coaching and not enough supporting talent or is he just destined to be a career backup?
The Bears seemed to have turned the corner by the end of the season and this draft could be the key to their making the big leap in the next couple of years so do they draft one of the top QB's at #1 and trade Fields or stick with him and trade the pick for more draft picks to surround Fields with more talent and build on that?
Lots of talented QB's in this year's draft so there could be a lot of trades by teams maneuvering to move up into the top 5 picks to grab one. The Bears could get a kings ransom for that #1.

Brain fart, thanks. That's what I was thinking, not their entire existence.

Therein lies the gazillion-dollar question. It is in the papers almost daily and on TV a lot here as well. I wouldn't want to be their G.M. Ryan Poles. Tough decision!

Well fellas, too bad about Green Bay going down last night. For the fan who had no rooting interest, it was an entertaining game (Include me in that category). You have to feel for Carlson, the Packers kicker. He is going to think about that until this summer.
Let's just all root for the Lions 🦁 this afternoon!

@lee I don't feel bad for Carlson, he's been shanking kicks all season. I hope they cut him. Easy to lay the blame on him since it was a 3-point loss and GB out-played SF for most of the game. Lots of missed opportunities (and the line judge seemed to have money on the game the way he was spotting the ball). I am a little tired of losing to the 49ers in the playoffs at this point, but at least the game wasn't decided by a blocked punt. If Love doesn't force that final throw into triple coverage across the field, maybe it's a different game. But, if a chicken had lips, it could whistle.
Still, fun season. The future looks bright. I'm hoping the Lion and Bills move on - how cool would a Battle of Lake Erie Super Bowl be?

@lee yeah tough way to lose as who knows how things end up if he makes that FG.
I am speculating the Pack brings in competition next training camp and he goes if someone shows more accuracy.
Tough loss in a winnable game for the Pack. Too many missed opportunites from Savage dropping a pick 6 to failing on a 4th and 1 instead of putting up 3pts to not be able to score TD's in the red zone.
That being said the Pack gave the 49ers all they could handle and exceeded everyone's expectation so hard to get too down.
We should have 7 draft picks in the first 4 rds of the draft this year so another chance to fill holes with young talent and get better.
If they stay healthy I think this team is going to win a lot of games be in the hunt again next year. The future looks bright.
Rooting for your Lions to get a ring this year. They are due I think.

Yep they won 8 of their last 10 games last season & carried it right over to this season - wanna see Lions extend their season, they’re deserving
Bills fans are the best in the league - yet still can’t come around to rooting for their team to knock off SB champs🏈
i41 would like to see coach Belichick retire - doesn’t look like he’s going to tho

Imagine if the Bears could draft both Williams and Harrison! They could recoup at least a #2 for Fields I think so that would have to be tempting.
Not sure they move up from #9 to #4 for that compensation but would be interesting if they could

Too bad the Bills lost, I thought they'd finally had the upper hand on KC. Josh Allen should have gone for the 1st down on that last drive rather than the TD but his coach did say "go for it". FG aren't a gimme. Guess we have another week of Kelce Brothers...
KC-Baltimore should be a good game. GB proved that SF is mortal, so I think the Lions have a fighting chance. I'm just hoping it's not another SF-Balt Super Bowl.

Another tough loss for the Bills on a missed FG.
I have a good friend who is a rabid Bills fan who still has the scar from the infamous Wide right miss in the SB game against the Giants so l imagine he melted down after yesterday's miss.
Even though they are a Packers NFC North opponent I am rooting for the Lions to get that ring. Their fans have waited a long time for this so GO LIONS!

Yes, that would be amazing. How do you see that possibly playing out? I can't come up with a scenario. Harrison should get picked within the top 5 and I can't think of a way Chicago could have two picks that early. I think there would have to be multiple moves.

I like the Lion "fandom" here! I always root for an NFC North team. Well, maybe not the Vikings. Not since they had Fran Tarkenton!
Packers, Bears & Lions (maybe Minny if they have a QB next year) make a good division!
Regarding the Bills, they certainly do have good fans. I don't know what it would be like to be a fan. Hey, you got to four straight Super Bowls. I doubt that will ever happen again. But you lost them all. How would you feel?
Marv Levy lives in my neighborhood. Nice guy. He'll pose for pics and chat football for a few minutes.

As for Carlson, I wouldn't worry too much about that. The Lions cut their kicker this season too and brought in another guy. It does happen. But I've never understood why a punter can't kick. And a kicker can't punt as well. At least in a pinch.

I don't think there's anything to worry about, they know he's not dependable. But he's a rookie, they will bring in some competition. Either he gets better or doesn't. Way back when the Packers used a 3rd round pick on Brett Conway. He was awful, missed everything in preseason. So they signed an undrafted free agent named Ryan Longwell who kicked for the Packers and Vikings for a couple decades. Conway bounced around the league for a few years after that but the Packers were having none of it.
As for punting and kicking field goals, just because a punter has a strong leg doesn't mean he's accurate and has ice water running through his veins for last second field goals. Some teams have had their punter handled kickoffs if they have a stronger leg.

Remember when the Raiders took Sebastian Janikowski in the first round in 2000 I think it was? Biggest kicker I have ever seen. The guy could have been a lineman.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

@lee Remember him? He kicked for the Raiders for almost 20 seasons. And how can anyone forget the 76-yard FG attempt?

@porkchopbob Yup, despite the late season surge it was time for him to go. Too much talent on that defense to be under performing.

let the competition begin

Okay Bob -
But he is a KICKER. Love them or hate them he is still a kicker. There is probably a reason why there is never a second-string kicker.

Well yeaaaaah. I'm not really sure what your point is?

Sorry. Just that kickers can be somewhat expendable. I know some guys kick for a long time for one team but if a kicker gets hurt there are usually people teams can try out.

Det bounced SF in SF in the 1957 semis - envision a 2024 repeat - quite possibly by the same 31-27 score
It was the 2nd-most one-sided outcome ever in a championship game or Super Bowl when the Lions won the title that year - 59-14 over Browns - Briggs Stadium, Detroit

Bummer for Detroit fans, they looked like they had it all but that was one bad 2nd half. I don't begrudge the late 4th down attempt, a 48yd FG isn't a gimme, but it was a bad time for the Lions to come down with a case of the drops.
KC gets to try to beat SF again. Chiefs looked like they could catch anything against the Ravens, I think they will beat SF (again).

They had the KC Scouts, the KC Kings, KC Athletics>Royals …..
the Chiefs always go deep in the playoffs - yagotta hand it to em
like their bball Braves brethren they win consistently knowing all-everywhere love their mascots & will never change it, ChiHawks included
yes the magic ran out for Lions after halftime - they were great this year, ups🏈
