Weird thing:  a lot of these supporters DO NOT have investments ... or even a health insurance plan.  I know a few who are even on disability or Social Security.  They do not realize that when Republican elected official speaks of "getting rid of all the dead wood" that THEY are among the people being talked about.  I have more than one such relative who will call me on the phone and call me a Pinko-Commie-Yellow livered-Socialist one day ... and call me back the next week asking for a sizeable loan so that they don't lose their giant tire SUV or their double-wide to the bank.  ... and it's never a "loan".

Peace, y'all.

R

I've wondered how many Trump & GOP supporters that might be on Obamacare even realize that if it is elimated as the GOP & Stalin Trump wants, then these people would lose coverage. Do they understand this and the impacts of preexisting conditions.

This morphs into the bigger discussion of people tied to a party understanding the policies advocated by that party and the implications / ramifications to these people. Quiz someone who is a loyal supporter about tariffs, health care coverage, changes to tax policy, etc. and see if they can tell you the impacts to them and their situation. You'll get shocking answers or no answers.

Related - I got into a discussion with a Trump supporter a few months back over Charlottesvile (remember Trump's "good people on both sides" and the tiki torch chants of "Jews will not replace us"). The response I got from this individual was "what about your boy, Obama". There ya go...tells you all your need to know.

There's no single "type" for either party & I recognize there are single issue voters (abortion, gun control) that makes strange bedfellows. Frankly, I'm surprised Trump didn't win a second term, but if not, then I wish there had been a real "throw the bum out" vote.

There was a good illustration of blind ignorance & willful blindness in The Ethicist column in the NYT this week - a wealthy, white retired couple w/an expensive house in an affluent coastal development outside Charleston suddenly realized - from BLM protests in the news - that the word "plantation" in the name of their community was offensive to the local Gullah people. Yes, it apparently took them until their retirement years to realize that blacks aren't sentimental about ole plantations where slaves were beaten, tortured, raped, forced to have their master's illegitimate children, & killed. The couple was planning to sell their existing house & buy an even larger one in the same community, but were hesitant to do so given that they now recognized "plantation" was repulsive to local African & black people.

So, they acted - taking a vote from their HOA about changing the name to something less offensive. No! W/a vote of 52/48, the white rich retirees thought plantation was just fine even if it was offensive to some people of color that they couldn't see from their golf carts anyway. The moral is even when some whites KNOW they're doing something offensive, they can't bring themselves to do the right thing. It costs them essentially nothing to do this one small thing, yet something - indifference or misplaced prestige or belief that a plantation might once have stood in this low country (doubtful, given that they were mostly inland) - kept them from respecting their neighbors. There's a mix of political parties among those homeowners - proof that neither party has a lock on decency.

Here's something that I do for fun.  Sometimes I make a dollar or two in the process:  If I'm with somebody and I see a bar with cars (usually pickup trucks) bearing TRUMP bumper stickers in the lot- I offer a bet that I can walk in there and get somebody to say the "N word" in less than 30 minutes.  This might involve buying a round or two, sometimes not.  I've won a few of these contests before my butt even landed on the barstool!  😉

I'm curious if anybody here, especially Trump supporters, still think he can still pull this out? Does anyone think any of the Republican lawsuits have even the slightest chance to successfully change the outcome?

@2112

He might be successful at delaying what seems to be inevitable, but legal experts continue to suggest that as it stands at present, these lawsuits have no merit.  Which is why they’ve been tossed out by the courts thus far.

Should they find actual cause in what we know will be more suits filed, maybe the courts will take them up and rule.  But what seems more evident by the minute is none of the suits will change the outcome.  Will they fire up the Trump cult? Certainly! Which is what I think Trump is really trying to do for the future of his brand.

We all probably agree that if Trump isn’t whisked off to prison, he’ll capitalize on this false narrative that his re-election was stolen so as to monetize it to his benefit for probably years to come.  And the cult will buy it and whatever hooky product he sells them as a result.

But what the hell do I know?

Where are the Trump supporters or those who voted for him including those who might claim they don't support him but really do? We all know the names. Awfully silent from that side. Are they embarrassed to admit how wrong they were about all the inaccurate posts about Prez Elect Joe Biden?

I have a feeling this will not be over till SCOTUS sings.  There WILL BE recounts, challenges, and a few accusations thrown around.

Some votes might actually be thrown out due to several instances where GOP poll watchers were force ably kept out of the polling places, even when their permit was presented.  Both parties have to be present during voting.

So it's going to be a while, possibly even into December.

The poll watchers were there. They were told to be 10 ft away. They fought in court to be 6 ft away and won

they were there

no fraud

Seems to be standard operating procedure for frivolous Trump & GOP lawsuits. They're not having too many good hair days.

Interesting that the incumbent and newly elected Republicans are still so chicken shit of the Trump cult that they’re backing these frivolous attempts at challenging the election....

I think it shows just how slimy and selfish most politicians are when it comes to their self interests and playing whatever side of the fence is necessary to keep their positions of power.  And that goes for both parties...

Consider Mike Pence for instance...He waited just long enough to see where the party and Trump cult would land on supporting these lawsuits before he made a public statement In support of the president.  If his future would have been more secure doing the opposite he damn well would have done so...

Pence's favorite line the last 4 years - "Thanks to your great leadership, Mr. President". How many times have you heard that even when the results were failure - see Covid response for example.

Exactly...Pence says and does what’s best for Mike Pence at any given time the truth be damned. Again, it’s not an approach exclusive to him..See Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, etc...But Pence does it will such obvious fakery that it’s almost comical at how the President and the most gullible within the cult believe it’s genuine.

Pence is in a separate category; he's Trump's VP & informal transition team member. He's not going to do anything publicly to contradict Trump. Trump isn't a gracious man. IMO he'll make the transition as difficult as possible, eschew all the traditions of previous presidents (inviting the new pres to the WH informally, writing a letter to await the new pres) even if they were opponents, & most likely not show at the Inauguration. If it's not about him, why be there?

The one thing Trump has done is break some of the traditions - they're not written in stone. They're small courtesies about which Trump knows nothing. If he isn't required to do something, Trump's not going to do it.

To anyone who thinks Trump's going immediately to an arrest, that would be at the state level. He'll pardon himself & his cronies before leaving office. I don't know that his followers are going to do much for his brand.

Pompeo says, "there will be a smooth transition from the Trump administration into the second Trump administration."  Please make sure that his invitation to the next Covid party does not get lost in the mail.

No, they are still counting in several states. I think there are still 4 states that still haven't been "called." I think it is pretty clear, however, who is going to win the states that haven't been called yet. Biden should take Arizona and Georgia. Trump should take NC and Alaska. Fox News and the AP have called Arizona for Biden, but the other networks haven't. I think Biden leads by about 13,000 with around 20,000 to count. Trump has been catching up, but by a rate that will leave him around 10,000 votes short. Georgia will recount, but Biden has a margin that is big enough that it should be recount proof. None of the battleground states have margins that should flip the state in a recount. This isn't Florida in 2000 where the state margin was less than 1,000.

Pompeo needs the Trump cult in his corner for his possible 2024 presidential run...Thus tow the line despite knowing Biden is the next president.

What is a bit unnerving is that Trump is stacking the Pentagon with his loyalists in these last days of his presidency and so when push comes to shove maybe he’s hoping he can prevent the military from ousting him should it come to that.

^^

very scary. Maybe he thinks the military will help keep him in power.

Milley has said the military will play no part in the election. He also apologized for walking with Trump to the Church and supposedly got into a shouting match in the Oval when Trump asked for 10K troops to be deployed in the US.

hopefully cooler heads will prevail but Trumps actions continue to damage our democracy. Every day he is acting more and more like an autocrat. Putin wannabe.

@chain

It's who Trump is; he can't admit defeat & is following every option he thinks he has to avoid it. He may never concede, but there's no requirement that he do so. There are no circumstances under which the US military will remove a president no matter who is at the pentagon - that's all in Trump's head.

@stormyrider

He's been showing us he's an autocrat for quite a long time. ITA all he's doing is damaging democracy. My hope is that he is prevented (by his own actions or otherwise) from having any sort of continuing influence on disrupting democracy thru his white supremacy supporters. Biden, even w/McConnell, has a long relationship & history of bi-partisanship in the Senate that will allow Congress to address the most critical issues facing the US & restoring global alliances.

Update:  Floyd County Georgia,  2,600 uncounted votes were found during a state wide audit.  Several other counties had votes not counted in the initial tally.

Trump gained over 14K votes.

@rusty George Wallace is an really interesting guy. He eventually saw the light, and renounced his racist past. Only after being shot, but still.

Meanwhile Trump still refuses to concede. Can you imagine anyone else getting away with this petulance? Does everyone remember the "You LOST!" shouts in 2016? When does our collective patience run out? He can ask for and pay for his recounts, but it's clear he can't make up the votes in those states. It's over, and he's convincing his followers that it's not, spreading more misinformation. I'm hoping he doesn't attend Biden's inauguration. Watch him host a competing TRUMP TV launch rally at the same time.

It's time for the GOP leadership to stop enabling him. Initially it was - "he's entitled to his legal challenges". Ok, if you must.

He challenged repeatedly, and he lost. Now he is trying to change results.

This is not what America is supposed to be about.

The more this drags on, the more I'm enjoying watching Trump lose over and over. I'm even starting to feel sorry for the brainwashed masses that keep grasping at straws. It's long over. It wasn't even close. If there was real evidence of widespread voter fraud, not speculation and conspiracy theories, the Trump lawyers would have presented it in court.
