Wow he was so smooth. I remember when he unexpectedly died at something like 1967 at 45 or so due to a heart attack.  

I think Pat Metheny has Montgomery Gibson L-5 hollow body electric now. It was Montgomery's number one.

Montgomery plucked the strings with the flesh on the side of his thumb. Supposedly because early on he had to work a straight gig, he practiced at night using the side of his thumb not to play too loud and disturb his neighbors.  

I enjoyed light jazz back then and had Wes Montgomery,  Joe Pass, Larry Carlton and eventually George Benson who broke through with a huge selling album.
