Forrest Richard Betts born 12/12/1943

Dickey born 12/12/1943.
Dickey had his own unique style on guitar. Nobody sounds like Dickey. Good singer and man what a song writer.
Would the Allman Brothers have become the number one band in America in 1973 and had an album to sell over 4 million copies and stay at number 1 for 5 weeks without Dickey?Â

One of Dickey's best compositions. In 1990 I thought Warren or Dickey was using a Dobro on the intro. But during an interview Warren was asked that and he said he was getting asked that now that the album is out and it's actually his Stratocaster tuned to sound like that.

Happy birthday to Richard Betts.
I was lucky to see him several times in Germany (2008 and 2012) and I am always grateful for him. His music means a lot to me. I am also grateful that he made some possibly cruel travels to Europe in May 2008 (gig in Norway, next day in Germany, next day in Spain) and a bit more relaxed in July 2012 (including a Rockpalast show in Bonn). And I was happy to see Duane in Asheville together with Dawes at the Christmas Jam, exactly five years ago. This morning, I bought the last available front of stage ticket for the Allman Betts Band on 1 July 2021, again in Bonn!!

Happy Birthday Dickey! Your songs have been a huge part of my life.

Nobody like him. What a body of work! What a guitar player. What tone. You know it's him in a second. Happy Birthday Dickey! Thanks for the wonderful music. The soundtrack of my life.Â

Happy birthday Dickey & thanks for spreading the good word of music - the intros to Les Brers & High Falls, plus that midsong full-band break into the improv cosmos toward the end of Kinda Bird, are tremendous segments of music, so many others too - enjoy your day & all of them bro🤙

Happy Birthday to the Cat in the Hat!
Listening to some sweet Dickey playing today.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune newspaper reprinted a Dickey interview yesterday. The story has links to several long interviews in that paper, well worth checking out.

Happy birthday Dickey! Had the pleasure of opening for your band back in May 2005. My dad, who is 8 days older than you was in town for the gig. My oldest son was born about 3 weeks before the gig and the White Sox won the World Series that year. Hands down the best year of my adult life. Hung out with your band for a while after the show, but unfortunately you never showed up. Have a great one! You’ve inspired thousands of people!

...and if I remember right, I was at that show, meandean..... Â

Happy Birthday Dickey! Â

We don't have to tell you how to have a good time. That's what your music's been about for as long as you've been playin'. Like Duane said 'if I can have me a good time or a shitty time, I'm gonna have me a good time' . Â
You're a one and only. Genuine since 1969.
Happy Birthday. Enjoy the accolades, you've earned them.

Slide it over to 32:00 and after Gregg says "We want to dedicate the entire concert to Great Britain....and Berry Oakley and Duane Allman, listen to Dickey play the world's longest Blue Sky guitar solo!!

-
Wow that Blue Sky guitar solo from that concert in England is a concert within itself. Longest Blue Sky solo I've ever heard. Kudos to Dickey for such a joyful ride here on this Sunday morning. Â
