Stumbled upon this. Not really  a Floyd fan, but pretty cool to see Nash and Crosby adding backup vocals. Gilmour is such an emotive player. He makes that Strat sing. I am not much of a fan of the typical  Strat tone,(just not my taste) but when he plays , really does not come through like that. Beautiful playing no doubt.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

That is top notch playing. David Gilmore is a bit laid back to me with his playing but he is clearly a master player.

Pink Floyd was a SUPER group. Their Dark Side Of The Moon stayed on the top 200 Bullbord album chart for many years.

As to tone. To me the typical Strat tone is Hark Marvin, The Ventures,  Dire Straits on Sultans of Swing, certain western swing players and Clapton after he left Cream. I saw Cream a couple of times and I remember Clapton playing a Gibson SG. A Strat was invented with country and western swing music in mind. Stratocasters became guitars that people doctor,  modify and rework to apparently get stronger and unique tones while using the Strat shape and great necks.

Porkchopbob brought me up to date. Fender will built you a Stratocaster with an array of pickups and tailpieces. Jimmy Herring has some Strats with factory installed pickups that are like some Les Pauls.

Unlike most makes of guitars, when I find a video with a player using a Strat, I'm not sure what kind of tone will come out.

Here is Warren Haynes covering Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

Not David Gilmore but I think Warren Haynes delivers some very tasty guitar playing on this. Real nice.

This is from the same show i believe....Crosby and Nash join Gilmour on the tune "On an Island" which they sang on for the album.....Beautiful, beautiful composition, performance, etc.....

This is a bit historic given Richard Wright died not long after this tour (note him playing keyboards) I believe this is one of the last times Crosby and Nash performed together given their falling out not long after....

And David Bowie also makes a cameo at this show....Dying a few years later.

I was there for that show at the Royal Albert Hall ... front row of the balcony ... absolutely superb gig ... not only did Gilmour have Crosby & Nash on backing vocals but also David Bowie as a guest for the encore ...
