Lana, got to see Miss Astrid as well and she sure is one stylish little girl, her little hat was adorable. Rob Johnson’s wife Tammy suggested that she sew on some little butterfly patches on Valor’s carry pouch:) Would that be cute or what? I was not able to make the B’ham show because of a prior commitment to go see Bo Diddley at the Roxy here in Atlanta. My husband helped with production and I went along for the ride so to speak. When he played “I’m A Man” and then looked at everyone and sang “I’m a Hoochie Coochie Man”, well he may be 73 but he darn sure made you believe it. He only does about 15 show’s a year so it was a real treat. After the show my husband took me backstage to meet the man himself and the folks in the band were like “Is this your wife” and he said she sure is. And they told him, she was right out front dancing the whole night, and he said yeah she danced 3 ½ hours last night at the ABB show and another 3 ½ hours tonight at this show. They all laughed at that and I was just a little embarrassed. Anyway, Bo shook my hand signed a picture for me, gave me a pick and signed the only set list he had and gave it to my husband. He said now it’s a little dirty I been tappin my foot on it all night. Is that okay? Well heck yeah it’s okay! What a weekend this has been! The most wonderful ABB Atlanta show and meeting the living legend “Bo Diddley”. Look’s like instead of a night I will never forget, this weekend goes down in my personal history book as the being the weekend I will never forget

Hey there sweet family, I could've kicked myself for not having a camera in ATL. Shey and I were on stage before the show chatting, getting caught up, when we noticed Butch's 5-month old granddaughter, Astrid. Astrid's folks are Butch's son Vaylor and his wife Holly. She's soooo cute, we just had to join the small group of people who were making a fuss over her. (btw, there's a pix of Astrid on the Flying Frog Records home page). I know this is a chick thing, but for anyone interested (i.e. maybe Jacquie 😉 ), she was wearing a cute little pastel outfit and a knit cap with bright, wide bands of primary colors - yellow, red, blue, green. Tres chic! Anyway, while we were talking baby stuff with Holly and Melinda, Grampa came over and took Astrid from her Mom. He held her (yeah, adoringly  ) for a little bit, then walked away with her. Where was he going? To his drum kit! Butch sat down, placed Astrid on his knee ... which was already one of the cutest things you've ever seen ... then he placed a drumstick in her tiny hand. And?? And?? And Astrid took a whack at a cymbal like she was auditioning to be Prince's next female drummer! What a moment! :glow: Everyone was saying, "Who's got a camera?? Lana, do you?? We've got to get a picture of this." But I didn't 🙁 Just know it was a sweet, sweet moment ... and that you are loved, Lana

Good morning, everyone! Heading back to DC in a few hours, and just wanted to say that I feel privileged for the Atlanta show to have been my first live ABB show in 29 years. The whole evening was so good in so many ways, I'm not sure I can sum it up in ordinary words. Sublime, transcendental, blissful...there, how's that? You Atlanta folks are a wonderful, welcoming crowd...and I know I will be back! Thanks for a truly peak experience. And hey, I just found out that the dTb is playing in DC Nov. 7 at the State Theatre, a fairly small venue in Falls Church, VA...how cool is that! love to all you lovely people, Stephanie

Thanks for the reviews, Hophead, Libby, and all the others. Sounds like our band is really rocking the Southland! We got ours earlier this summer, and I'm glad y'all are getting yours now. :clapping:This band is incredible, and judging by the tapes, they're getting better every day. Keep those stories coming! Hophead, is there any live Donna you can share?

Good norning, Carol, Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm still toasty around the edges. I can say without a doubt this weekend has been one of my best this year. Got to spend the time with my old buddy Racin' Ray from Mobile and then got to meet so many cool people from the GB. Goliath & wife,GPM,AIQ,Cee Cee, Linus, Benjamin, SDPB, Billy Eddins, Great Scott, etc., etc., Of course I want to thank Buppalo for all the hospitality. I don't know if your responsible for the party or not. Tell whoever is I had a great time. Thoughts from the show: Great place. The open amphitheatre made for a magical sound. Like natural from the mountains. They started of strong. As strong as I've ever seeen them. Warren was on! Gregg playing and singing better than ever. Great solo during Mtn. Jam. Did I mention Mtn. Jam. Oteil palying much better than I've seen him. DTB was great! Racin' Ray said he really liked Yonrico. Derek played really well with the band. On monent during the slide megafest warm up to Hoochie Coohie Man. Gregg appeared to be just wathcing in amazement at Derek and Warren. So many more wonderful moments like hollering at GPM and AIQ after the show like friends. And I do belive they are. Peace y'all. Got to fly back. More later.

another blistering show. after derek's set i knew we were in for a bodacious night, because Derek was ON. ABB simply cooked all night. The high point for me was one of the little things-during oteil's solo on Mountain Jam he played the Doxology-which I guarantee won't sound near as good when we sing it in church this morning. will post more later-great to meet everybody aiq, gerald, kenny, buppalo, Pat, Benjamin and to see goliath and great scott again. a half hour or so talking trading with Clay. also lots of fun to share ajoining seats with Brenda from Tallahassee-the girl danced all night. after a really nice show she goes-it was good, but not close to Atlanta. Which made me glad I didn't go to Atlanta, cause my heart couldn't have taken it if it was any better

Part II Opening Act: The dTb were INCREDIBLE Fri night in a great 60 minute set. Started at 6:55 with a great Maki Madni (a song I didn't even care for until recently & it sounded down right elegant!)....in no particular order we got Kam-ma- Lay, Gotta Move (what a great Myrtle Beach 60s sounding tune), the new instrumental Pedro, Like Anyone Else (Mike Mattison's range, oh my!). We got the other short instrumental on the new album (name escapes me at the moment). They closed the house down with Joyful Noise. We got Jimmy Herring on Joyful Noise and Marc Quinones for almost the entire set (he was particular good on Pedro!)....... Mike stands center stage (where Jav was always on the side). He did the intros of the band w/Yonrico introducing everyone again as they left the stage. Mike comes & goes from the stage when they do instrumentals. Maybe he could take up some conga lessons from Marc, in the way Jav learned percussion when he joined the band. Either way, Mike is a talent with the mic. I miss some of the Spanish vocals but the dTb is down right elegant these days. Derek really fits the dTb, even more so than the ABB. This band could have played another hour & I would have been happy. When the dTb came on stage the place was virtually empty and it was only 1/2 full at best when they left, but people were up & grooving by the end. Tim

OK.....I posted this on the Listserv too. Saw the dTb and ABB in Hotlanta Fri night. Met lots of list and GB folks, which is always a treat. I stopped by the Potter's pre-show gathering for an hour or two earlier in the day too. Great folks!!! ABB probably had their smallest Atlanta crowd since 1989, but it was an entusiastic crowd of around 12,000 (reserved was pretty full). The ABB opened with Midnight Rider, then Trouble No More and then in no particular order Woman Cross the River, Aint Waisting Time, Loving You Too Long (with a bit of an extended Derek solo near the end), Statesboro Blues (Warren on slide), Dreams (Warren solo), Wipping Post, Revival (encore), Rockin Horse, No One To Run With, Good Clean Fun, Southbound (Derek, Warren & Jimmy Herring going toe-to-toe), New Instrumental w/drums & bass (not my favorite concert time at all - I preferred the way the dTb worked two shorter drum duos w/Rico & Marc into the songs), Soulshine, (Warren/Gregg duet) and probably two more. Show ran either 2hr 40 or 2hr 50 minutes. We were 14th row in front of Gregg. He really lines up near the middle of the stage. They are all bunched up almost as if the stage were half the size it really is. We couldn't see Jaimoe all night, even though we weren't that far from the center. The sound was very clear and Gregg's vocals were right on. The stage was very dark all night. Brotherhood of Lights probably went for 1/3 to 1/2 the show. They could use a few more brighter lights on stage to give the whole atmosphere a more upbeat feel (maybe not the right words but something like that). In the end it was a great show. There are times when Warren & Derek don't bother to even attempt melodic solos in a few tunes (Rockin Horse, Whippin Post, New Instrumental) where I miss the lyrical guitar work of the Dickey a good bit. Some of the "fun" get up and dance tunes like BWIAB, Blue Sky and Jessica were the type tunes that would have taken last night over the top. While Derek is 1000% lyrical player in the dTb and he is less so in the ABB. Still, amazing musicians and great show. End of Part I

Sometimes life sucks, but when it does, it just makes perfect days that much sweeter. I have lived a perfect day. First date with my best friend and the most important person ever in my life. Been with her through 6 marriages, she's been there as I screwed up one relationship after another. We saw the Brothers tonight. Had to spend hours at Appleby's with Charlsinator and friend, Billy Eddins and enterege, AIQ and Gerald from Mobile, Linus from B'ham, Barb and Greg Potter, Great Scott and friends Cee Cee, Zambi, and Goliath, Skyponydogboy and friend, and Jim Benjamin. Perfect. My group included a couple and their 16-year old son and friend, two members of our town's old late '60's garage band that did so well that Atlantic signed them and had Duane play of 3 of their singles, recorded at Muscle Shoals w/Johnny Sandlin producing. Also Johnny Wiemann, old friend and roadie for the same band. Johnny almost died last spring. Also my old friend Jimmy Walker from Daytona, who grew up hanging with The Escorts, Little Abe and the Houserockers, and Duane and Gregg.THEN we had to go listen to the greatest band in the world...after the Derek Trucks band finished. Derek's band was worth the price of admission. He's, for me, the best guitar player in the world. Perfect. The Brothers have only one peer, and that is the original ABB. They're that good now. The high point for me was watching all the young people absoloutely grooving to Derek and Warren. I told Karen there's a real chance now that I won't have to listen to rap over the intercom at the old folks home. One other perfect moment...everyone drove thru hard rain on the way, we were deluged on the way home. Hard rain now, but not a drop at Oak Mtn. until the last note of Little Martha was fading away. Plus the Tide won. Could the day have been any more perfect? Sure--Libby could have made it, and Tony could be in perfect health. But this is as close as it gets. And I love it. Good ol' Duane...EAPFP

You guys will truely appreaciate this, if no one else does! I'm going to the Mud Island show tomorrow (oh yeah!!!) and we have a bunch of folks going. Hold that thought. A friend of mine who plays bass in my band, has a court date approaching which he can't afford. We donated the total take from Friday night's show to his "legal defense fund". But one kind soul that can't make it to Sunday night's show donated his ticket for a raffle. We had the drawing tonight, and as the winner hopped around in celebration. The guy on stage says "Tommy's doing a VICTORY DANCE with his ticket....", which I'm sure noboby else caught the reference to the new album's title. But I thought it was kind of cool. Man I wish I could have made that Atlanta show! I broke a 3 year streak on that one. Then my Clearwater tix got stolen. Y'all have me so psyched about Mud Island! It's about damned time!
