Sometimes life sucks, but when it does, it just makes perfect days that much sweeter. I have lived a perfect day. First date with my best friend and the most important person ever in my life. Been with her through 6 marriages, she's been there as I screwed up one relationship after another. We saw the Brothers tonight. Had to spend hours at Appleby's with Charlsinator and friend, Billy Eddins and enterege, AIQ and Gerald from Mobile, Linus from B'ham, Barb and Greg Potter, Great Scott and friends Cee Cee, Zambi, and Goliath, Skyponydogboy and friend, and Jim Benjamin. Perfect. My group included a couple and their 16-year old son and friend, two members of our town's old late '60's garage band that did so well that Atlantic signed them and had Duane play of 3 of their singles, recorded at Muscle Shoals w/Johnny Sandlin producing. Also Johnny Wiemann, old friend and roadie for the same band. Johnny almost died last spring. Also my old friend Jimmy Walker from Daytona, who grew up hanging with The Escorts, Little Abe and the Houserockers, and Duane and Gregg.THEN we had to go listen to the greatest band in the world...after the Derek Trucks band finished. Derek's band was worth the price of admission. He's, for me, the best guitar player in the world. Perfect. The Brothers have only one peer, and that is the original ABB. They're that good now. The high point for me was watching all the young people absoloutely grooving to Derek and Warren. I told Karen there's a real chance now that I won't have to listen to rap over the intercom at the old folks home. One other perfect moment...everyone drove thru hard rain on the way, we were deluged on the way home. Hard rain now, but not a drop at Oak Mtn. until the last note of Little Martha was fading away. Plus the Tide won. Could the day have been any more perfect? Sure--Libby could have made it, and Tony could be in perfect health. But this is as close as it gets. And I love it. Good ol' Duane...EAPFP
