Peachnutt,....Sounds very cool, that Fillmore East show. I know this was mentioned before, but I also saw my first Dead/Riders show at the Fillmore, 4/29/71, no Duane though, and I was also in the mezzanine. So glad looking back to have had that experience. Peace,...Neil

Hey there sweet family, Good Sunday mornin' to y'all! We had such a fine time in Raleigh last night. The Derek Trucks Band couldn't have squeezed more people into the Lincoln Theatre, or more bliss out of their performance. Totally stellar! Thanks, guys! :clapping: We're looking forward to hooking up with you again Friday in Pittsburgh on our way to Lanaroo :spinner: And we'll let you know when we get there early, Joe 😉 ((hugs to Joe)) It was wonderful to see so many members of the fam' out celebrating ... Captain Ron, Jim Benjamin, Tom Vold, Skybird Betty, Holt, Kirby, Lisa, David, Bill, Steve, An-Li, many more, and a couple of out-of-towners who *always* make us smile from the inside out. It was also fun to hook YonRico up with Dick Griffin on the phone after the show. Y'all may not know this, but YonRico is a wonderful artist. His work reminded me of Dick's so dial, dial, dial and who knows? Maybe a joint show in NYC this spring! (no pun intended 😉 ) YonRico has a new CD coming out soon, which we hope to have on Radio HTW in the next week or so. I'm thinking an interview might be in order too. Volunteers?? And Dick Griffin is off to Greece today for two weeks ... exhibiting his art and performing. Sweet man, sweet life :glow: Take care and know that you are loved, Lana peach s: Remember all you Raleigh Revelers, Oteil comes to the Lincoln Theatre the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. C U there! :egypt: [Edited by Admin November 9 2003]

Good ol Sunday morning to everyone.... I have been trading with JeffB, one of the original Macon peachheads, for years now and a couple of months ago he sent me an invitation to this party he throws every year. This year they had Floyd Miles as the entertainment. Floyd had his band including the horn section and they were smoking. Looking around the venue (an old juke joint, Adams Lounge) I see Mama H and Skip, Kirk and Kirsten, Judi Petty, Chank, Alan Walden (hell, it may have been Phil...they look alot alike...) and Carol and Kevin McDonald...After about an hour of Floyd, I look to my left and see Gregg over by Mama H.....Gregg got up on stage and played about 4 numbers. It was great seeing Gregg in a Macon Juke Joint. They tore the house down, too. WooHoo!! Thanks to JeffB!! You throw one hell of a good party, brother. EAPFP

rowland.... 4/26/71 was a real fun time...... actually hung out tonight with 2 of the people that i went with.... New Riders opened so we got to see Jerry twice.... and smoke was indeed thick..... considering the fillmore buzz flashlights anyways... great music.....and some it is on the skullf*ck album....I think Wharf Rat & Big Boss Man come from that show......great pig night too.... and then the second set opened with Duane...I remember it very well.... we flipped of course...having just been blown away by the brothers 3/11/71 fillmore show... I wished Duane was louder in the mix..... his amp seemed tiny (we were in the mezzanine)..... but i definitely heard him....he was blazing.....it was great... perhaps we'll hear the real masters some day in the duane box set i guess..... they really should be heard.... peach....

Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I thought I would share this. It sure did make me think. Acknowledgment: > >A newly arrived soul in Heaven was met by St. Peter. The saint toured the >soul around Heaven. > >They walked side by side inside a large workroom filled with angels. > >St. Peter stopped in front of the first section and said, "This is the >Receiving Section. Here, all the petitions to God said in prayer are received." > >The soul looked at the section, and it was terribly busy with so many angels >sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets from all the people >of the world. > >They walked again until they reached the second section, and St. Peter told >the soul, "This is the Packaging and Delivery Section. Here, the graces and >blessings the people asked for are packed and delivered to the people who asked >for them down on earth." > >The soul saw how busy it was. There were so many angels working in that room >because so many blessings were being packed and delivered to Earth. > >Finally, at the farthest corner of the room, the soul stopped at the last >section. To the surprise of the soul, only one angel stayed there idly, doing >nothing. > >"This is the Acknowledging Section," St. Peter told the soul. > >The soul asked, "How is that, there is no work here?" > >"That's the sad thing," St. Peter answered, "after the people received the >blessings they asked for, very few send their acknowledgments." > >"How does one acknowledge God's blessings?" > >"Simple," St. Peter answered, "Just say "Thank you, Lord." > >If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead >and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75 percent of this world. > >If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish >someplace...you are among the top 8 percent of the world's wealthy. > >If you woke up this morning with more health than illness...you are more >blessed than the million who will not survive this week. > >If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of >imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation...you are ahead of 500 >million people in the world. > >If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, >torture, or death...you are more blessed than three billion people in the world. > >If your parents are still alive and still married...you are very rare. > >If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly >thankful...you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not. > >If you can hold someone's hand, hug them or even touch them on the >shoulder...you are blessed because you can offer healing touch. > > >If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in >that...someone was thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than more >than two billion people in the world that cannot read at all. > >Have a good day, count your blessings, and pass this along to remind everyone >else how blessed we all are. > >THANK YOU LORD!

Hey Peachnutt -- GD 4/5/71 Manhattan Center was my first GD show. Quite an experience! I think it was confetti, not blotter floating down from the ceiling as the mirror ball spun during one of the extended jams, but by that point I don't think many people in the house needed any help! Smoke in the rest rooms was so thick you could barely see. ("and I walked home every day from school in three feet of snow") Rowland

4/26/71 1st Dead show? Wow, what a way to pick em. I would love to hear Gregg take another stab at Morning Dew, would fit right in with what they're doing now. I also just picked up a CD copy of Laid Back. Have the album, but no working turntable, so haven't heard that in a long while. Great record and would love to hear the current lineup tackle Queen of Hearts, especially since were not getting many GAB shows these days. EasyMichael, happy belated birthday!!

Chris, I'm sorry to read of more bad news. All the best to you, your family, and your friends in need. Thanks again for all of my birthday wishes yesterday. Scott, you were right--I was at the dTb Richmond show. What nice ending to my birthday! They opened with Leaving Trunk and ended with Joyful Noise and Pedro. "Newer" tunes included their cover of King Curtis's Memphis Soul Stew and Volunteered Slavery. Jim B (who left here around 11 a.m. headed for Raleigh--great seeing you again, Jim!) thought he noticed Mike mentioning to Derek that they should do more instrumentals because of Mike's shredded voice. So, we also got So Close, So Far Away (I love that tune) and Cheesecake. The Sahib>Maki>Sahib medley was sweet. I also love the way they tweak tunes they've been playing for awhile. The crowd keeps getting bigger each time they come through here. I'll bet the Lincoln Theatre will be packed again tonight like it was last January! I wish I could join you down there! Enjoy the show! Thanks again, friends!

Hey now Tim - Nice review! I lucked out and got great seats in the front row of the balcony, right over Warren's right shoulder. I knew Gregg was going to sit in, but I didn't know it was going to be for four songs -- just after Soulshine I saw he was going to do one more and I crossed my fingers and started chanting to myself, "Let it be Dreams, let it be Dreams ... " Then I saw him start to count off 3/4 time and I went nuts. A true moment for the ages ... so glad I was there! Don't forget to hop on over to Jakes tonight for Donna Hopkins!

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers for Keith and his family. I think I'll burn him some music and try and do what I can. Y'all when it rains it pours my wife's grandmother was robbed in a kind of home invasion today at 8:30 am! The guy stole $10.00 (all she had) and her car. He pulled a long knife on her but other than being shaken up she's OK. Moral of the story ............ Folks I wish we can be trusting of others, but don't ... repeat...DON'T let someone into your house that you don't know. Please crime proof your children. Don't let them talk to strangers and lastly Drugs like coke, crack, meth, oxycontin, (and my favorite vicodin) can get the upper hand quick and frickin' ruin your life. So stay away from them and watch out for your loved ones as well. God bless all y'all and take care.

What crappy morning. Making copies of Dickey Betts CD's for everyone and can't get the sencond CD to record completely. Then try to ease my frustration by playing my Beacon DVD for only the second time and it starts skipping all over the place. Any suggestion besides taking all mt electronic toys and throwing them in the f%^king trash.

Thanks for the review, Tim. I'm green with envy. Missed 'em in Orlando the other night. Just slipped up and on. Just went on a buying jag--bought GA Tour, Laid Back, Pattern Disruptive(replacements all), and Let's Get Together. Had to do it. They came in 3 different parcels, which was kinda cool. Like pre-Christmas(a little early, OK?). Had forgotten how well a lot of Pattern Disruptive still holds up. Laid Back is still a masterpiece. Hadn't heard the whole cd in a while, and wow!! What a triumph! Every single song is a gem. And Dickey's tone (and Mark's) is just unreal on Let's Get Together. Maybe someday..... Horace EAPFP

Saw Gov't Mule with Chris Ronbinson and GREGG last night in Atlanta. Highlights were Chris & his guitarist coming out to play Southern Man and Hard to Handle with the Mule. Other huge highlight was Gregg coming out to do Just Before the Bullets Fly, Stormy Monday, Soulshine (duet w/Warren) and Dreams (duet with Chris Robinson). A long tripping take on Zep's No Quarter was nice too. The rest was old-school heavy, prodding Gov't Mule. You could literally feel the low end in your chest from Matt Abt's drum kick's and Andy Hess's bass lines. The old Mule fans must really be diggin that. The Tabernacle was packed and Gregg sounded wonderful on organ and singing. He sat right along side Danny Louis while Danny handled some electric piano rhodes sounding keys......Magical moments! I posted a longer review on the listserv: http://lists.netspace.org/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0311b&L=allman&D=1&O=D&F=&S=&P=553 Tim

T-Man..... lots of great stuff there.... my 1st Dead show was 4/26/71.... need I say more.... I think both Morning Dew and Lovelight would be great to bring out of storage. Of course a straight blues like B.B.King's "Sweet Little Angel" (ala anthology 1) would be mighty mighty schweet..... How's about Mule doing "Theme for An Imaginary Western"..... bird..... let me know if want something from the lists...:) :spinner:

Finally got through listening to Deads 71 Fillmore 4 disc release. A real gem. Almost every vintage Dead tune I love. But the thing is such a time capsule of history too. I dig the Bill Graham raps..... Father Bill, Brother Bill, Pissed off Bill, get em all... it is great. The music is too much, a Morning Dew for the ages. The closing We Bid You Good Night was an extended bit of Dead Soul..... Hearing Jerry do Sing Me Back Home (before I die) was almost too much..... Damn he pissed me off.......... what a sad ending....... alone in a rehab deal. He had the world too. This Fillmore set is Jerry and mates at the Peak and with the blues man Piggy, he was a show in itself. Thing got me thinking, how about an ABB cover (Warren on 1st vocals): Morning Dew ( a real natural for him) Morning Dew would also be a Derekfest for jazzy style solobut. Here is Birds orchestration: Morning Dew / jam / segue / intro / Dreams.... those two songs have a common something I can't quite define, similiar beat...
