Always good to hear from Red Dog, no matter what the topic is. It doesn't matter much to me whether I agree or disagree with his posts; I figure that his perspective is unique because of his background and history. I just appreciate it when he checks in here at the GB, allowing me to understand some of that background a little bit more with each post. As always, thanks for posting, Mr. Campbell! Also, good comments, poetjohng!

Redog its understandable your still so bitter after all these years but you have to remmember they let you go for a reason. I am sure the band would have found a way to eat back in the day just as I am sure they were appreciative of your gifts. The check was a helluva lot more than a few burgers in the 60's.

It seems that the "brotherhood" that RedDog speaks of is personal to him, his fellow crew members and the band as it existed at that time. It's obvious that he has suffered some disappointments and changes over the years. For that, he gets my understanding and sympathy. As fans, we have developed our own sense of family - all in the spirit and celebration of Duane and the music of the Allman Brother's Band - from the originals to the current line-up. I've seen pictures of Red Dog at Wanee, so I know that he has experienced this. Whether or not he feels it the way that we do, I can't say. Red Dog, I hope to meet you some day. I've certainly enjoyed reading your "tails". I know you could fill us all in on historic details. It'd be terrific if you could join your old brother Kim and come to the next Jam For Duane. If you do, you'll get to meet some of the new "brotherhood".

REMEDIAL READING 101 Without Red Dog's having provided shelter and support for The Allman Brothers right here in Macon, Georgia during their early days as a struggling group of hungry musicians, there would be no such band as we know it. That is a factual no brainer for critics, friends. or foes. Red Dog is my friend and neighbor in Middle Georgia. While not claiming to be a saint by any means, he deserves continuing respect for his founding contributions to The Allman Brothers Band, music culture and history in general. At least movie producer Cameron Crowe was inspired enough to base a major motion picture on the persona of Red Dog Campbell in "ALMOST FAMOUS." And for those who need to apply for history lessons or driving instructions, Dog remains a legendary American Hero, decorated ex-Marine, and one helluva' good golf coach.

I believe that with age and a tough world, in a survival response, as one gets older, you become concerned with defending your patch of ground from the onslought of life. Idealism of youth and worrying about your brothers survival become smaller priorities. Add in big money, hired guns whose job is to caretake the money earning machine, and it is inevitable brotherhood suffers. Just about every large band has lost it's brotherhood. Amazingly, the Rolling Stones are the biggest exception. One point the Dog brings up is the disappearing JJ............... never thought about it, but I always wished he was not hidden and it does seem odd..... he wasn't hidden early on..... always figured it was his choice.... Marc on his palacial percussion throne, Butch spread out all over the right, and where's Waldo 🙂

It is not so rare in my world and I hope it is not so rare for many others. Family, chosen family, friends....we should each have lots. Lots could be two or twenty! Love is all there is and we should love like there's no tomorrow.!!!!!

Morning!:) :waving: Red Dog! My only comment about Brotherhood is I was once told by a wise old roadie that the closest that comes to explaining it, is when you can put aside ALL of your own needs and tend to those needs of another and never expect anything in return but you will know 100% in your heart they would do the same for you without question. Now think on that for a minute and count how many people you would give up anything including your life for. Family will come to mind right away but how many outside your family can you count? How many would do the same for you without a doubt in your mind?

Hi Dave!... You have been pretty spot on in your earlier post!! There seems to be a brotherhood in another form amongst all of us and the current band...however... RD pointed out Gregg's statement of "every man for himself" and we all know Butch didn't need to say a word about a current brotherhood...his fax actions told his story. If there is a brotherhood in the current lineup...it was started it in the year 2000! IMHO I prefer to remember and cherish the original brotherhood...yep w/RD! I hope the current band continues to make great music!

Funny how its the same old tied people that won't to find fault with my posts. Sorry that you few try to read so much in my post that is not there. Then jump out and run the mouth on a bunch of bull. This brotherhood you speak of is in the mind of the beholder. Nice thought but in reality it is not there. People here have no idea of what I speak of yet they want to jump in and speak with a forked tongue. You are hung up on fantasies. What I said had nothing to do with the music. It had to do with being close and going the extra mile for the person next to you. It was a good thing that went south. As Brother Duane said, all good things must come to an end. How true it is. Here is another example. We were setting up when the production manager, Vid changed the set up and Jaimoe was out of the sight lines. In other words Jaimoe would not be seen by a lot of the audience. I mention that to Vid and we did not see eye to eye on this. So when Butch showed up, I mentioned this to him, and he said he did not give a damn about Jaimoe. This was at about the same time as Gregg telling me its every man for himself. Sorry people, if that sounds like brotherhood, then I will eat my hat. I saw the writing on the wall at that time and knew it was close to departure time. Then they fired Brother Dickey, and the next year got rid of Bud S. I knew I was next. For the yo yo that mentioned bonus. Here again is a good example of someone speaking about something they know nothing about. The bonus, spread out over two years, should have been a lot bigger. It was my disability check that helped keep the band alive. They chances were real good of not surviving those early days if it was not been for mine and Brother Twiggs money, we put into the band asking for nothing in return. They also ran Brother Twiggs off at the beginning of the Enlighten Rouges run. Philosophy is good but only a bunch of words. I hope the truth does not bust your bubble. A band does not have to be a brotherhood to play good music.

Thank you for your responses.Let me add and agree that I think the Brotherhood exists and it is really probably more within our hearts if it is anywhere at this point.I would love to know what the present band would have to say!

Police Concert Review: Date 5 /26/08 San Diego, CA What is there not to like about the Police. Professionalism, super talent and a great sound. As concerts go the Police in workman like fashion put together a concert that leaves one wondering what just happened. Truely powerful, brilliant, and entertaining. Double smoking hot! Sting true to form nothing less than spectacular in voice and song selections once again proved why he is considered one of the best of all time. With the depth of lyrics on display.....one forgets how good these boy's where and still are. With his side kicks in tow and up to the task the legend of the Police is surely safe along side all the greats of Rock n Roll. If by chance you have an opportunity to see them.....by all means go. They play their last two shows in New York August 4th and 5th. It was truely Rock and Roll indeed. Next show Review Goverment Mule and Rat Dog July 1st San Diego. CA
