On January 16, 2017, a new form 4473 will go into effect and all old versions of the form not already fillld out must be destroyed.
The new version has the same questions, but added to question 11.e is the phrase, " Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medical or recreational purposes in the state where you reside."

So, if you use pot, possess pot, use it under a prescription, or get caught with pot, you can lose your right to purchase a firearm because it is still a Federal Crime to do any of the above, no matter what laws were passed in your state.

And I thought Obama liked pot smokers.

Is there a problem with this? I personally know one suicide attempt and two of the biggest drunks and the 3 have a concealed carry permit. What is wrong with this picture? Don't give me the same drivel that the everyone spouts..Give me an intelligent answer. Never mind that's impossible.

This is probably a last ditch effort to do as much as possible for gun control - but putting the federal law before the states is just what the Democrats don't want to see under a Trumpt Supreme Court. Be careful what you wish for!!!!

So if this is brand new how come I can find 100s of articles from years ago about this very subject?

Some laws are enforced while others are not depending on who controls the Justice Department.
See the current situation with immigration and gun laws.

You could easily go back to the mid 70's and find out that people with a police record of marijuana use or possession were barred from many things, the right to vote, to hold public office, get a federal job, apply for federal grants, enlist in the military, get a pilots' license, or purchase a firearm.

The brand new thing, among others, is the statement on the form saying that even if marijuana has been decriminalized in your state, it is still illegal under Federal Law.

PS: If you don't answer the questions correctly, it's considered violations of
18 U.S.C. 921 and can carry a fine of $250,000 and/or a 10 years imprisonment.

Again, you can thank Obama for the new form.

Yes. It does open a can of worms for the gun-grabbers.

The article I posted is 5 years old and addressed it then..

The ATF’s letter, sent out Sept. 21, clarifies that the bureau includes medical-marijuana patients in that group of prohibited buyers because their marijuana use is inherently illegal federally.

The letter also tells gun sellers that they could be in line for punishment if they knowingly sell to medical-marijuana patients.

“Any person,” bureau Assistant Director Arthur Herbert writes in the open letter to all gun sellers, “who uses or is addicted to marijuana, regardless of whether his or her State has passed legislation authorizing marijuana use for medicinal purposes, is … prohibited by Federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.”

The Obama administration yet again does the least it can but "something about guns" so that Obama can run to the TV cameras and claim he is doing something about guns.

Crap.

If Obama really wanted to do something about guns he would actually enforce the laws regarding the interstate transport of illegal guns.

Obama has not, will not and more black people will by murdered in the inner-cities run by Democrats.

Ask Congressman Danny Davis IL (D) who's grandson was murdered this weekend over his basketball shows.
Black on black violence, using an illegal gun in Chicago's South Side.

I think you and I are discussing different points of the matter. No, it's nothing new about marijuana users being barred from gun ownership. That's been in effect since the late 60's. What is new, and significant, is that there is now a federal form that is approved and published by the BATFE that says state and local laws do not (pardon the expression) trump Federal Law.
Watch for challenges on all local and state laws that are restrictive on firearm purchases and ownership using the same form as published by the BATFE.
They can't have it both ways. Either state and local laws can supersede Federal laws, or they can't.
The Second Amendment is Federal law, and according to the new Form 4473, local law cannot negate your Second Amendment rights.

So, they either change it to where marijuana users in states where it has been voted legal to possess and use cannabis can own guns, or they have to start enforcing Federal law in places where local laws restrict your rights.
