There is a reason zoning laws and regulations exist. Its to protect the public and for safety. Its the same reasons we have immigration rules. You cant pick and choose what to ignore and what to enforce and create a climate of whatever goes. People are coming out about the recent Ghost ship tragedy and asking why officers there earlier in the month didnt do anything or look into things deeper. Why did the mayor not enforce the law? Sound familiar? Sad but true this applies to their current immigration policy.

Lets not wait for a Ghost ship type of incident to deal with the lawless immigration attitude in California.

This is a pretty big stretch, Goobs. Not to mention, shamelessly politicizing a completely unrelated tragedy, I might add.

Or is Pizzagate and Flynn Jr not enough of a reflective mirror for you?

You do know that every state and every community picks and chooses which laws to enforce don't you? It's not just California. Many states have laws on the books making adultery illegal, yet I'll bet nobody has been arrested for adultery in the US for decades.

I'm not a fan of "sanctuary cities" but if the cities don't want to spend their tax money on enforcing this particular law then I think that is their business. However, I don't think these cities have any right to not allow the federal government to enforce these laws within their border if the federal government sees this as a priority, which is the policy I see now. It is the same thing as weed laws in Colorado and Washington.

From what I have read some of the problem was the fact that the inspectors worked M-F 9 to 5 and not on the weekends when the parties and events were happening.

I saw this first hand in Houston.

We were reopening a club on a Friday night, inspectors said they couldn't be there until the following Wednesday.

I told them I was opening Friday regardless of their permit, they said I was in violation of the law.

I asked them how they would know, they replied, they wouldn't.

We opened without their permit, had no problems, ran up until the inspection which we easily passed.

Like I said, we were re-opening an already existing club that was remodeled in the course of a month.

We would have lost thousands of $$$$ if we had done it their way.

A town I once lived in had an ordinance against whistling. I whistled often at times just to be a troublemaker and see what would happen. Nothing ever did.

P.S. The off duty HPD officers had no problem working an "illegal" club and taking their cash at the end of each night.
