Sure envy Bay Area bball fans -- Houston at SF this afternoon, MadBum (4-4) vs. former Cy winner Dallas Keuchel (9-9) -- let's go Giants, they can play thru their injuries
& the Dodgiz across the bay tonight -- A's don't draw that well for some reason, would be surprised tho if that was the case for this series -- winning it would show once & for all Oak is for real -- Seattle falling behind & King Felix Must pitch effectively vs. last-place Tex tonite, even w/Bartolo, 45, as his opposite number
never knew Nolan had that kind of year, Wow -- he shoulda been top dog, or top 3 at least 😉
when he pitched for the Tribe late 1960s, Luis Tiant had a similar year -- lost 20 games w/a sub- 2.00 ERA, IIRC
deGrom pitches high noon tmrw vs. Reds -- ya here comes 7 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 9K -- & Mets lose 4-2 😮
yes, outta control to this point in the season -- keep it goin Sox, Watta Treat

You are mixing up two year for El Tiante! He was 21-9 with the 1.60 ERA in 1968 - didn't get a vote (despite higher WAR) for Cy Young cause that waas the year Denny McLain won 30 and was a unanimus winner.
Still have fond memories of him pitching for the Red Sox and celebrating with a cigar aafterwards in the Jacuzzi

Nice story. This former groundskeeper from the White Sox spent 23 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Jerry Reinsdorf presented him with a 2005 World Series ring. I think he wasn't able to watch The World Series. Think Jack Nickolson in Cuckoo's Nest.

If you are a die hard baseball fan, come to Chicago today. Cubs play a day game. After that, walk to the El train and get off at Comiskey and catch The Sux for their night game.
At least at Comiskey you can afford to be there.

Two of the greats, Barry Bonds & Jack Morris, honored ystrdy in SF & Det
"VOTE THE GUY IN!" -- It came from Willie Mays himself, Barry's godfather -- Morris was inducted into the HOF earlier this month
Jim Leyland was Unequivocal about Bonds ystrdy in SF -- "without question the best I ever managed -- we should feel lucky that we got to watch him play"

I'll take Cleveland and the Cubs in The World Series, although anything can happen of course. Replay 2016. I am curious to see what trades might happen before the deadline. Yankees need another starter. Cubs pitching has question marks.
Maybe Philly sneaks in, who knows? And the Dodgers have certainly made a good turnaround after an awful start.
Should be a fun stretch run!
![]()
Yes it should -- we see Philly this week -- it's SF at Chavez Ravine, when is that not-huge -- series du jour is Oakland-Seattle after M's swept Altuve-less 'stros
But yes, a lot did happen b4 the deadline -- a possible Tribe-Cubs WS seems unlikely as of right now but as you said, anything can happen
but holy shit -- 50 games over .500? -- almost no sense to it really & couldn't've been forseen but no complaints & let's go Sox -- has there ever been a more valuable .215 hitter than JBJ?, NO -- there's a different guy coming up big every time

Ya that's right, thx -- he set the record back then for strikeouts in consecutive games (32), which I think sorta threw me (not to mention a foggy brain 😉 ), but that indeed was in 1968 -- 9-20, 3.71 ERA the next year (1969)
his 2 greatest games bookended his career -- in his July 1964 MLB debut silenced WS champion NYY on 4 singles to shut out Whitey Ford & Co 3-0
then Oct. 1 1978 & his 2-hitter over Tor that kept our playoff hopes alive in his last game w/Sox
Luis went 21-17 over next 2 years w/NY before finishing w/Pirates
along the way his 5-hitter 9/16/65 at Fenway

Looking forward to the pennant races this year. Even with the extra wild card teams there are a few that can conceivably win 90+ and not get in.
Interesting.
And the Yanks could play the "real" first round against Boston. That would be fun. Team that has the record for most wins in a season (Seattle) didn't go too far.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

It's still early, the AL West could become a 3-way horserace down the stretch, although no Paxton for Seattle for awhile -- that liner stung, no doubt about it -- should be mad-race for WC & div title
same NL West, any of those 4 teams could win div -- still like SF's chances
Let's go Sox, watta team, HOLY SHIT ARE WE KILLIN IT OR WHAT -- Rick, 15th win last nite -- batterymate Sandy coming up big -- Brock pinch-hit HR, unbelievable

Well... they did beat the Tigers today but they are still only Kansas City away from last place.

nice to live in boston and be a fan these days. Their teams are contending for championships in all 4 major sports at the same time. doesn't get much better for sports fans. Unfortunately, i live in NY

Nice to see the Cardinals showing some life.................

Sawx got all the love at the moment (I don't live in Boston either btw 😮 ) -- I mean JD Martinez has become almost as big a monster this year as the Green Monster -- & Andrew Benintendi, a versatile, speedy slugger -- didn't at 1st think he'd become the player he is, another Jacoby Ellsbury in his prime -- people like Kinsler, Swihart, Christian V, Wright waiting to return.......
also, Houston visits Oakland this wknd -- sometimes Oak's stadium capacity is listed at 35,000, but it was more for the Dodgers series -- maybe they open their upper deck or something (last of the "cookie cutter" stadiums?) -- but that's a good race too -- no new word on Altuve, Seattle right there, Felix back in rotation etc etc
StL doing what I was hoping Pirates would be -- Cubs visit Bucs this wknd, Bucs need a sweep to stay in it -- Cards-Milwaukee this wknd, crucial -- suddenly Braves are hot & gaining space on Phils etc etc
MEANWHILE, WE SMOKE -- TB will try that goofball pitching approach (starter goes 1-2 innings), it won't work -- we're all the sh!t this year, let's go Sox

Stanton has certainly turned his season around. I wonder if the Yankee fans are still complaining about them signing him?

I'll take Cleveland and the Cubs in The World Series, although anything can happen of course. Replay 2016.
They're both 71-52 -- make no mistake it's an autumn atmosphere this week, esp tonite w/15-game winners Rick & Kluber --
we haven't hit a rough patch in a long time -- to show how hot we've been, Mookie has gone hitless his last 2 games -- his longest cold stretch of the season
but yes, Cubs in 1st place in NL -- Bucs Are 5 1/2 out In WC w/Atlnta visiting -- heat is on Braves too, they're L4 -- Sawx, Tribe, NY, Oak & Houstn is how it looks rite now in AL --
it's no secret tho, if Felix pitches like Felix & they win-solid tonite, it could ignite a sweep over Houstn putting Seattle right back in it while all eyes are on Fenway
Machado & LAD so-so so far -- my pick SF, wellll, mayb next yr 😮 -- CLAY -- a 5-hitter -- his 1st CG since 2015 -- so, w/Grienke, Godley etc, now it's hard to bet against Clay Buchholz, Paul Goldschmidt & ARIZONA in NL West -- Colo is right there
[Edited on 8/20/2018 by Stephen]

Stanton has certainly turned his season around. I wonder if the Yankee fans are still complaining about them signing him?
I haven't heard any Yanks fans questioning Stanton since May, and even then it was because Castro had a lot of fans. With Judge out (and Sanchez disappearing), they've certainly need his bat. They are still having an amazing season, well ahead in the WC, if it weren't for Boston having a crazy good season.
but yes, Cubs in 1st place in NL -- Bucs Are 5 1/2 out In WC w/Atlnta visiting
Brewers are still in 2nd place with the pesky Cards on their heals. Crew needs to finish strong if they don't retake 1st place since everyone is pretty close.

Cubs get Danial Murphy. Interesting. Not sure exactly why but I suppose it is because Kris Bryant is hurt and they can mover the infield around.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

They've shut down Yu Darvish too -- thought Wash had shut down Stephen too, he's back tmrw nite tho, even tho it's likely too late to make any diff
How special was that though -- Oakland's Khris Bryant had a Make A Wish kid sign his jersey, then belted a home run for the kid
In front of all of 9,000 fans -- shame on A's fans, that's one of the top teams in MLB -- they only come on weekends
The Boston Beaneaters, yaman
That's sure a whole lot better than the WooSox -- it should be BooSox
PawSox will mark their 50th anniversary in Pawtucket in 2020, by bidding adieu to move to Worcester in 2021
Brand new stadium, better access etc etc -- it's progress I guess
[Edited on 8/22/2018 by Stephen]

The Nats are a mess. Yet they have hung onto Harper when he is a free agent after the season. Don't get that at all.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

Cards are surging, just passed the Crew. Brewers better wake up.
I was at the Yanks-Marlins game last night. Nice win for the Yanks in extra innings, but injury bug seems to be hovering - Judge, Gregorious, and now possibly Chapman.

bases full, 1 out in the 11th
then bases full 0 out for Miami in 12th -- NY escaped both times -- credit to them, they've played well w/out Judge & Sanchez -- our 2 series next month w/them will be pivotal, obviously
we gotta get a split -- bats have been quiet -- Tribe is for real, we knew that
still too soon to count Bucs, SF or Wash out of the WC -- still wanna see a Stepheno-hitter this season -- 6-7 IP, 0 hits -- mayb 2nite -- also 2nite, Clay goes up against Odrisamer
Let's Go Sox

Yanks have definitely missed Judge and Sanchez's bat, but they're better off with Romine behind the plate.

The schedule is favorable, true -- at 90 wins we're tied w/1912 team for most wins thru 129 games, paper said
Carson Continues To Convalesce -- going into 2019, will have pitched a total of 23.2 innings since arriving in 2015 -- how many 'procedures' can 1 arm take anyway
TYLER -- since his return, 17.1 meticulously if-not medically parceled-out IP over 19 carefully-monitored appearances -- 18 hits, 8 ER, 4.15 ERA
on the field, series du jour, StL & Colo are both WCs right now -- key interleaguer, Seattle visits AZ -- Clay 7-2, 2.25 -- he's had these streaks b4, but then invariably, The Strain -- oft-injured, injury-prone, they all are yadada -- he & the G's, a combined 32-16
Dustin's status is open to debate, the thinking being if his knee hasn't healed up enough by now..........He'll Show Up 2019 Spring Training If Not B4, So Let's Go SAWX

Michael Kopech's tweets of the White Sux from when he was in high school years ago were revealed. Same day as his first start. Interesting timing from someone. Curious to see what the media does with this.
Guess anyone can spin this anyway they want to.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

It might come back to haunt him -- he'll probably go in for sensitivity training, even those these tweets were from long ago
What I'd like to know is, why did it take Sox owner John Henry 15 years to become "haunted" by the supposedly-racist legacy of Tom Yawkey -- have lost quite a bit for John Henry
Chris Bosio won't pursue, by the look of it, his wrongful-termination lawsuit against Det. -- he wouldn't have a chance, not when a racial slur was alleged, whether he was in the right or not
The guy who hurt himself last year at ChiSox' stadium, then sued ChiSox saying they were at fault for the injury, has his lawyers together and is pressing charges --
this happened Wed. night with Mitch Moreland at Fenway -- will Mitch sue? You wouldn't think so, but the BoSox have dragged Tom Yawkey's name through the mud too -- the man who owned & loved the Red Sox for some 40 years -- so you never know -- Mitch might wait to see how the ChiSox case is decided
Finally the Gwynn family's lawsuit against the company that made the chew Tony was partial to as he belted the ball for a career .338 average, is set for Sept. 2019
LOOK OUT, NY has a new kid, Voit -- let's go Sawx
[Edited on 8/25/2018 by Stephen]

They've won 11 of 15 & have pulled into a tie w/Tygz as we visit the south side of Chicago this wknd
The #s don't lie -- Abreu (doubles) -- Anderson (SB) -- & yes, .220 BA & all, Yoan (triples) …. all among league leaders
a supposed 'think tank' of baseball geeks, using analytics, sabermetrics etc, did a statistical/computer study a year or 2 ago -- Result it came up with, CHISOX had more good incoming talent than most anybody, in projecting 2019 as a year "they could contend for the pennant" -- a kid named Rutherford was mentioned -- another kid, Jiminez, has torn up Triple A apparently -- Kopech, the reason they traded Sale to us, is the talk of the league
As to Chris, "no timetable on return", get back quick big guy -- David has been on fire the whole 2nd half, let him not be out long -- Eduardo Returns Saturday -- Rick, a horse
NY has played well w/out DidiG as well as Judge & Sanchez -- Houston is going crazy w/Altuve back -- same LAD, suddenly they're W5 going into their own huge wknd series w/AZ -- Oak #1 starter Manea is out -- Seattle fading fast -- so forth so on, the magic of Sept. bball

The Kid, The Splendid Splinter
he called the press corps "the knights of the keyboard"
.388 BA at age 40 in 1958
Ted Williams, Aug. 30 1918-July 5 2002
would be among career top 3 in HR, RBI & hits but for military service -- he & Bob Feller would still be top 3s had they played their whole careers

Yelich hits for the cycle, and Brewers are trailing in 3rd place. Killing me. Cards are always a thorn in their side.

Tiggers are about ready to make their move! 😛
