Sudden Sam if not for his alcoholism might have been one of the all-time greats

Stupid Tigers blew another one yesterday. Deciding if I want to drop $120 for a pair of tickets today at Wrigley. I can probably get something cheaper outside.

Hope everyone has a good holiday today -- I'll take my medicine -- gotta take the good w/the bad etc -- Soc fans can't think "4th of July" w/out thinking of Righetti's 1983 no hitter -- it was Carl's last year, he wasn't in the lineup tho so that explains it 😉 😮 -- only 41G in attendance, rivalry had cooled down from torrid mid 70s-1980 etc

Yes, no Miggy, ex-pitching coach suing -- long 2nd half looms for Tigers -- same us if Dustin remains out & JBJ & catchers don't start hitting -- let's go Sox

I lived less than 1/2 mile from Gibson's house in Omaha. Every once in a while my buddies and me would ride our bikes past there and he'd be outside doing some yard work.

Funny thing about the end to the '60 and '62 World Series game sevens. One won by NY, one lost. Ralph Terry was on the mound, and pitcher of record in each. Mazeroski homers and McCovey lines out. Hit 'em where they ain't I guess. Cool

Did he throw rakes at you?

No, he'd actually wave a little sometimes.

OAKLAND has won 16 of 20 -- gotta hand it to them, competitive almost every year despite a small budget -- now going into a huge series w/Houston -- Jed Lowrie is having a career year -- so is another ex-Sox, Jon Lester, for surging Cubs

WED. NITE., for all the nationally-televised marbles -- Bartolo, 45, vs. Chris Sale

"ChiSox & KC a combined L16, groty"
Now it's an L14, but gro-tier still is the situation at venerable Camden Yards -- players, coaches, upstairs types, concerned alums -- all embarrassed that it's gotten to this point, & if there's any way possible to make something of the season

RIP, Frank Ramsey -- 6th-man prototype, 7 rings w/Celts -- came up here from Kentucky & played 9 tremendous seasons in Boston -- one of the greats indeed

You guys might like this. At Comiskey they have these seats called "Scout Seats". We went to the game last night and my wife got them. These are amazing. Buffet, open bar and free everything for the game.

So you walk through this runway to get to your seats. The umpire dressing room is right there en route. You walk right by it. This guy comes running by us and is pounding on the door to the dressing room to try to get in. I thought he had a uniform on of some sort. An attendant lets him in.

Goes in and comes out of the room. He runs by me, almost knocks me over, I spilled my beer on my wife. Told me to get out of his way.

He was one of the umps.

I'd have called outside the baseline interference on him for bumping into you.

And if he argued with you, I'd have tossed him! Cool

must've been a riot when you saw the guy banging on the door, out there on the field umpiring Grin -- the umps, right there w/the fans, cool

Chris Sale last night, radio announcers said, became 1st-ever to throw 5 straight games of at least 11 Ks and 1 or less walk -- in his last 7 games his ERA is under 1.00 they said, along w/other stats -- the guy is so lights out right now, just a stud --

feel bad for Pedey -- a bad knee is a bad knee & all the hot-shit hi tech modern medical science doesn't change that -- Nunez & Holt have platooned effectively in Dustin's absence --

w/Vasquez out, Sandy now catching backed up by Swihart -- typical overzealous MLB worrywarts, it was actually the protective glove he was wearing that caused Christian's broken finger

TB has done away entirely w/starting pitching -- their 1st pitcher usually goes no more than 2 IP (it was 1 IP last nite)
-- this is a radical trend, which in this day & age of minimum IPs, other teams likely to follow suit -- bottom-line, it's working big-time for them (they've won 14 of 18)

Most Celts fans had hoped Marcus S would've been signed & in the fold by now -- it hasn't happened, not a good sign -- it should've been 1st order of business

9-6, 4.44 ERA -- w/a 10-game win streak, not to mention his own 10th win, on the line, guessing David will pitch well

He hasn't won 10 straight. He's 3-2 in his last 5. I watched the game a couple weeks ago and the Yanks lit him up. His last 3 starts have been rather underwhelming.

Also, I think win/loss record isn't as important as it used to be since they pull starters so early now. Ask Jacob DeGrom. Leads the league in E.R.A. and has only won 5 games! 🙁

Sox have won 10 straight -- it was David's 10th win

even at this midway point, AL playoff field about set -- altho Seattle slowing down & A's catching up -- both Felix Hernandez, and Paxton, their other good pitcher ar on the DL (bad backs) -- read somewhere King Felix had to stand between innings in his last 2 starts -- Tribe will win Central div by default

MOOKIE BETTS, a grand slam after a 13-pitch AB -- Eduardo R has been awesome -- w/Devers on DL Nunez will go to 3B & Holt stay at 2nd, or vice versa

JBJ a big night last night, also one of his routine hilite-reel catches in Wed. game -- both he & Sandy are starting to hit -- Sandy looms large now w/Christian out

BOSTON RED SOX

Thought you meant Price had won 10 straight. He still has a lousy ERA. Not a bad third or fourth guy in the rotation though. Most teams would certainly take him.

Going to the White Sox / Royals game tomorrow. This club has an offer. $12 for an all you can eat BBQ buffet. Shuttle to the game and an outfield ticket. Can't beat that.

This is the same place I saw the TTB two years ago. Small rock club.

It's nice that you also support minor league baseball. 😉

Went to Marlins-Brewers last week. Great ball park in an odd part of the city. Just west of downtown, but in kind of a suburban area of the city. Miami is definitely a soccer town, the crowd (if you can call it that) was mostly us Brew Crew.

Kyle Schwarber got screwed by the Harpers last night. Throwing pitches before the previous ball landed. Where were the officials? This is an outrage!

Couldn't care less other than the fact that I bet on Kyle to win. Grin

THE HARTFORD YARD GOATS
had to look it up, & sure enough -- the pint-sized version of the mountain goats in Colorado -- gotta be the worst name ever, then it makes sense seeing what the 'parent' club is --
wonder when the Yard Goats play the Lake Monsters -- they're both AA 😮

4-year deal for Marcus Smart -- it's about time Grin

Brewers slipped a little before the break to Miami and Pittsburgh. Hopefully that changes and they can overtake the flubs.

Should be interesting to see if the Machado trade allows the Dodgers to separate themselves from the pack in the NL West.

w/2nd-tier pitching (Eduardo/Steven W./Drew P) injured, the pressure falls on the "big 3" now

he opted for early rehab this year, idea being to give the team 1 solid half-season of starts -- it begins tmrw for STEPHEN after 6 weeks off -- 6-6 so far in 13 carefully-monitored starts -- so far this year, 80 IP for Stephen -- in 3rd year of 7-year, $127M contract

as to his brother-in-agony, Clay is in minors rehabbing from his practice swing, "no timetable for return" after 38.2 risks (IPs), parceled out over 7 nerve-wracking starts

many peers going same route -- SF's MadBum 49 IP, Cueto 42 IP so far -- Noah Syndgard of Mets, 69 IP, JdGrom 123 IP tho, a record for him at 1/2way point

but they're all 'healthy' now & how will they hold up -- not very well & LET'S GO SOX, NY can be beat -- what's happened to Jacoby anyway -- surprised no one has picked up Hanley

Yankees also had a dip before the break while the sox went on a tear. Hopefully the Yankees catch up. They've got the hitting, they just need to figure out what to do with Sonny Gray.

I'll take Cleveland and the Cubs in The World Series, although anything can happen of course. Replay 2016. I am curious to see what trades might happen before the deadline. Yankees need another starter. Cubs pitching has question marks.

Maybe Philly sneaks in, who knows? And the Dodgers have certainly made a good turnaround after an awful start.

Should be a fun stretch run! Smile

The Dodgers added Manny; yes. But recent history (and a family allegiance the the Giants that goes back 120 years) makes me feel that when push comes to shove they will f**k things up.

F
Pirates gotta get going by pulling away from .500 starting tonite -- However, standing in the way is Clay

MadBum is back, Johnny Cueto & Brandon Belt are nearing returns -- they have Andrew McCutchen & Evan Longoria on a team w/Buster Posey, Hunter Pence
...& w/Pablo Sandoval backwhere he wants to be & playing well -- he looked positively like a speedster legging out an infield hit recently -- Ya The SF Baseball Giants are poised to take over anemic NL West

still think they will -- Longoria is almost ready to return (espn) -- that guy Panik is a good player, he'll be back at some point -- Giants Baseball Club will heat up
LIKE THE BUCS, holy heck -- every so often they really light it up -- that Dickerson kid, cranking

Clay returns tonite -- you know the bat won't come off his shoulder when he's at the plate -- hell even lifting it up there might strain an intercostal yadadada -- 5 IP Max 2nite

the kid threw a 7 IP no-hitter in his debut, after getting hit in the head on a line drive last year in the minors -- great story, altho the bigger, separate one is 'starting pitching' gradually being phased out (his team lost the game)

We Hustle On The Basepaths, Unlike NY's Sanchez -- yes Gary didn't want to get injured in the same fashion his batterymate, Tanaka, did last month -- that's the modern-day game of MLB baseball for ya, & let's go Sox -- Drew returns 2nite, same thing, 4-5 IP max

The Dodgiz? Hadn't thought they'd won any -- thought that's who emr was referring to --
why can't they just say Sanchez was suspended?
