Great win by the Yankees against Tampa. Judge is showing why he deserved that massive contract. Every at bat is a must watch.

The Yanks are getting healthy so look for them to close the gap. As Yogi famously said it ain't over till it's over!

Visited a friend in NYC a couple of weeks ago. We had excellent tix from his cousins law firm to the Mets and Yankees games the same day.

Saw most of the Mets doubleheader in the afternoon vs. the Braves and Yankees that night vs Cleveland.

8+ hours of baseball in one day and I never got bored.

Both stadiums are amazing but have to say I was very impressed with Citi Fields food court. Every kind of food imaginable. That being said there is nothing like seeing a game at Yankees Stadium.

Just read that a new docu about Yogi by just that title, “It Ain’t Over” is being released - would love to see it - it’s narrated by his granddaughter - who doesn’t love Yogi - “be sure to go to other people’s funerals or they won’t come to yours”

That's really cool Bill. There was a guy that used to post here and he tossed around the idea of me going to Baltimore or D.C. where he lived and catching a game at both places on the same day. Never came to fruition unfortunately.

The Cubs and Sox will play on the same day here probably twice a year as MLB tries to have one team at home all the time I guess. I've lived here a long time and never have done it. It's doable as the train gets out close to both parks.

Yeah I should pencil that in. Maybe when I get home tonight I will look at their schedules and see if there is one later this year. I want to say they did it once already this year. It would probably be a Friday or Saturday as the Cubs play their Friday games during the day and I think they have to get permission to play a night game on Saturday.

Thing about this is it would cost a fortune. Amazed

No Jacob no sweat - Nathan Eovaldi obviously finds TX to his liking

complete-game 3-hit shutout - then 1 out away from another CG 3-hit shutout b4 opting out after 8.2 innings -

usually this signals injury but he made another start since (his most recent), going 7 IP w/5 hits & 3 runs - he’s certainly top dog right now

we were swept in our interleaguer last wknd
we need to get outta the cellah & there’s no question of choice - the climb out has Gotta begin w/this wknd’s interleaguer in SD - & atone for last wknd

Uh oh - rumblings in Gotham - NYY will be charging outta the cellah, experts say

Judge & Giancarlo were supposed to be all the stuff - but they’ve been outta the lineup A Lot - no timetable on Stanton’s return

yeah that was an Akil Baddoo Ballbuster alright - that may have never happened b4

Yep they’re coming back

Judge has returned, Severino returns Sunday, Stanton & Rodón are “working hard in rehab” blah blah

Teammate Josh Donaldson - as if anyone believes this stuff - it’s funny to me - it’s one of those baseball-only gems

poor Josh - suffered a setback in rehab - “sliced his hand while assembling something at home w/his daughter”

but once all these greats come back…..they’ll just return to the injury ward later on

————————-

Quik lanky lefty check -

Chris, 6-6, 34 years old - 3-2, 5.40 ERA, 43.1 IP, 54K, 12 BB

Clayton, 6-4, 35 years old - 6-3, 2.52 ERA, 53.2 IP, 63K, 11 BB

good years for both so far, no injuries

Nice to see my Yankees showing some energy and emotion. Fans were freaking out when they we 10 games back and looked dead. Now we are starting to surge a bit and have the Rays lead down to 6.5 games. I was impressed with their series against the Rays and Jays as I think those two are the teams to beat now with the Astros having pitching issues and I am not sold on the Orioles being for real yet.

Getting back Sevy and Stanton will only help the cause and hopefully we get Rondon back before the Allstar break.

A healthy pitching staff of Cole, Cortez, Sevy, Rondon and German will be tough to beat in the second half I think. If they can add a reliable bullpen arm or two before the trade deadline I like our chances.

Judge is earning every penny of his massive contract IMHO. He is the heart and soul of the team and leads by example. It helps that he is en fuego right now and every at bat is a must watch.

Last night I was watching a fair amount of baseball and was flipping around. Maybe you saw this but on the MLB Network they did a "look in" to the Yankees/Reds game and while I had the TV muted (was listening to ABB I think Wink ) I could tell what was going on. The umps checked Clarke Schmidt's hand, made him goin to into the clubhouse to clean it, then let him continue. Well of course the Reds manager was like "what the hell?!??!, toss him. So HE (Bell) gets the boot.

SEE:

David Bell ejected after arguing about Clarke Schmidt's sticky hand (nypost.com)

My wife asked what was going on and I explained it and agreed with Bell. Why was Schmidt allowed to continue? Further, Domingo German just got kicked out earlier this week and will miss two starts for essentially the same thing.

Hmm...

Regarding your Yankees I wouldn't be too concerned although that division is imposing. At the moment all five teams have a shot at the playoffs and the East could get four of the five in. That would be weird. One thing to consider this year that is different from prior years: since they don't play each other 18 or 19 times (which was stupid IMO) they won't be beating each other up quite so much as they would have prior to this season. I think that stresses the importance of beating up on every lousy team you can when you have the chance. Cue the Royals and A's!

Guess I can understand why they let him continue if they felt he washed the stuff off his hands thoroughly enough

why didn’t they give Germán that same chance (or did they) - what’s in them rosin bags nowadays anyway

yes Severino, good return in 2022 in a p/t role after 3 years away - 7-3 with a 3.18 ERA in 102 IP

yep they’re turning the Big Apple into a baseball - Mets, huge rallies in their last at bats this week, now they’re at .500 w/Carrasco back -

you know he’ll pitch to the Max tonite when T216/zer takes the ball

We must vacate the cellar, it’s musty - lets go Sox

Well the opportunity has ironically already presented itself. A week from Monday, Memorial Day, we are going to the Cubs day game against Tampa. That night the Sox play the Angels. I could hop on the El up to Comiskey and hey, who knows, maybe Ohtani will be pitching! Only thing is I will be in the bleachers (maybe direct sun) with 10 in-laws so I imagine there may need to be a few overpriced beers consumed. Gonna play that one by ear as my Grama used to say!

Nice Lee! Hope it works out for you so you can go to both games  and hope  you get some nice weather.

What better way to spend a day then to see a day night double header in two different ball parks.

the day-night sheadown, I mean showdown, tmrw in the citi -

zer & der - how can you top that

these 2 ‘legendary’ hurlers, 78 - they’ll be punching out guardians like the 1-2 punch they are - yep Tribe will be very unguarded after a double shot of ‘T216’ - only hope is to score runs after Max & Justin have departed

lets go Sox

NYY is 30-20, 5 GB

ChiSox 20-30 - & Also 5 GB??

fact is, we’re L3 & will never catch up in this div w/these mini slumps we’ve had - we could go W3 now & still be mired -

2 hits last nite - LA isn’t that good - we’re slowly getting buried in AL East again but it’s still early

Well the title doesn't have to be changed although Baltimore is really doing well. Long way to go of course.

Look at the Detroit Tiggers, only 2 games out of first with that minor league team they put out every night. Cabrera is SO embarrassing. I really want him to hang it up, as much of a great career he has had. Terrible division.

I'll be at Wrigley Monday and MAYBE that night at Comiskey, we'll see how it goes. Might try to catch an additional Cubs game this weekend as well.

🤙good wknd, root, root root for the home team

good read on Acuna Jr, awesome to see he’s come back full speed from that knee injury - is hitting .332, hasn’t missed a game this season -

got from first to third on a walk Wednesday - who can’t love that, that’s Ty Cobb/Pete Rose stuff -

he’s been intentionally thrown at b4 too - certainly recall the brawl That set off

Ronald is the best in the game & makes Vlad, Tatis, McCullers, JBJ look like juniors indeed

AZ also going good - let’s go Sox - it’s already taking on shades of 2022 -

it won’t be “it’s still early” much longer, it’s Mem Day wknd & Alex has to start getting wins outta the boys Now

it starts w/them, let’s goSawx

They couldn’t sign Judge or Correa

so SF signed Michael Conforto instead - 2 years, $36M, so $18M per - a huge raise, esp given that he sat out 2022 & is a career .255 hitter

Yes Giants fans, Michael will lead you to the promised land🤮

Conforto & Correa aren’t just below the Mendoza line, they’re off it altogether

…..after all that offseason BS, they’re 0-fer the season so far, basically

it’s every time - grotesquely bloated contracts - followed by flops on the field, every injury in the book & then some

lets go Sox

look out tho - suddenly Conforto is 8 for his last 17 AB, they’ve won 9 of 11 games & the SF Gmen have soared past .500 like a park of candlesticks in McCovey Cove

they & NYM declined on Carlos after looking at his medical evaluation - now we know why - he figured to miss time, Twins knew that - hopefully he heals up quickly - no DL yet apparently

good to see that Twins player back from that HBP - don’t know how I missed that one - thankfully it wasn’t another TonyC - tough facial injuries tho

lets go Sox

same Adames, that Brewers player - those are terrible injuries - his was similar to/thankfully not as bad as, Encarnacion’s, the Cards player, from around 2010 or so (unsure when/where)

Encarnacion was in the ondeck circle when the hitter shanked an absolute missile of a foul ball that smashed directly into his eye - it was as bad as TonyC’s or Herb Score’s & I believe ended his career

It’s a lost stat & must be acknowledged, so ups to Stroman of Cubs - complete-game one-hitter over league-leading TB -

the hit came in the 7th inning - in this current-day era of baseball that’d be an automatic hook w/the pitch count -

but pitching like he was, he wanted to keep going - great game, final score 1-0 - will follow up on any fallout

Reds found Wrigley much to their liking

Fenway they will not

how often does that happen - a visit one after the other to the 2 most storied beloved stadiums in baseball - one AL, one NL

….lets go Sahx, we need W’s boys

Headed to Comiskey today and tomorrow to see my Tiggers face the White Sux. Hopefully Detroit can actually score a run. Cubs won a much needed game last night to kick off their west coast swing, 2-1 over SD. For the life of me I can't figure out why the Padres can't score.

Looking forward to watching the Yankees/Dodgers the next two nights. Tough to find a more historical rivalry than that one.

Must agree while putting AL rivalry w/Sox right there too - but yes, Yankees-Dodgiz is the WS rivalry for the ages, going back to Brooklyn’s Ebbetts Field & the lords of Flatbush days w/Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese

….& yep, Sandy Koufax & Don Drysdale - Don had real fond recollections of this era in his autobiography

…..& in the Bronx, their cross town rival Yankees in the House that Ruth built - & all their legends immortalized in Monument Park

in those days you had to specify, the NY Baseball Giants* - yep the Polo Grounds - built right on Coogan’s Bluff, NYC - when it was a game…

but yes, no more historical rivalry than NYY-LAD - fans agree, highest attendance this year at both games thus far in Chavez Ravine

Dodgers CF Al Gionfriddo’s incredible catch off Joe DiMaggio in Yankee Stadium in the 1947 WS is a rivalry hilite, every bit that of CF Willie Mays’ legendary catch at the Polo Grounds in the ‘54 Series

back to the present & Chavez Ravine, Kenley had a lotta success there - started out well at Fenway, now some rocky outings….

let’s go Sox, only an immediate 6-8 game streak will get us outta the cellah

*that was also the case w/the St Louis Cardinals - their football team was also the Cardinals, unsure when/why it changed

Doesn’t hurt that they’re neck & neck near the top of the heap either - 3rd straight season-high attendance tonite (54G) - NY leapfrogs LA w/a win

too bad the news about Stephen - those are non baseball-related maladies & they sound bad (nerve damage)

Sorotka & Severino came back after 3 years away - all fans hope Stephen can too, but mainly, that he’ll have full health regardless

streak in store, let’s go Sox

The Padres and Mets need to start playing better, simple as that. Someone has to be able to justify all that $$$$ spent.

their full lineup is intact, now w/reborn C Gary Sanchez, & b4 you can say Benito Santiago, SD Padres are fast-approaching .500

Mets an equally slow start, gaudy lineup & all (these are 2 top-payroll teams) - T216/zer on the hill right now

we know a thing or two about slow season so far - but believe all 3 teams will contend - Blake Snell had a throwback outing recently

look at TX - playing their best in years - now Jacob DeGrom eyes next season

there were numerous red flags about his injuries over the previous 2 seasons - but he still got that gaudy contract - which TX is now on the hook for

not that a little thing like Multi-Million$ of dollar$ make$ any difference in MLB

Carlo$ Carrasco is back for Mets, still no word/timetable on Carlo$ Rodon for Yanks

lets go Sox, it’s Garrett-Gerrit tmrw night, we gottago in there w/a win & take Yankee Stadium by storm this wknd

it’s gotta happen soon - we gotta be 8-10 games over .500 by the AS break - urgency boys - not panic, urgency

Wow, The Red Sux are 8 games out of first place already!

we’ve lost 11 of our last 15 & it’s deteriorated to a full 13 games out

we need a large hot streak just to get outta last place - it can be done - what better place to start it than the Bronx

Anyone else a college WS softball fan, they really play hard, it’s fast & fun to watch those top-tier teams

That Okla LF’s catch taking away a HR off a crushed line shot of a hit - look it up, it’s as good as it gets - yep it includes Mays, Gionfriddo, Sandy Amoros, Tommy Agee, Ron Swoboda & other tremendous WS catches at any level

Forget the GB column - it’s all about the W-L now -

even a hot streak won’t necessarily get us outta last place

but it will improve our record, that’s gotta happen 1st

refer NL East - Phil is hot, NY is not & b4 you can say Bake McBride, Phil is gaining .500 & contention, something that didn’t seem possible just a couple weeks ago

….we had a W8 earlier this season

yes we’ll be stuck in the basement for awhile

but that doesn’t mean we can’t play much-improved ball & as mentioned b4, be 6-8 games over by the break

so let’s go Sawx - 2 more in the Bronx is all we ask - this last-place **** sahks -

ya time to put on The Devil Came Up To Boston, Awesome adaptation of the CDB song

Pitcher Anthony Bass kicked off the Jays last night for reposting some Christian video about pride week or something. GM said about his 5.00 era but he had been moving up the pecking order lately after a slow start. They did the same thing to Kevin Pillar a few years back. Hope someone picks him up and he crushes.

Neither of them draw flies but one, TB, is at the top - the other, the A’s, are at the bottom

but A’s are suddenly W5 & if their fans mean more than just lip service in wanting to keep them in Oakland, they’ll turn out in force for once to cheer on their surging ballclub w/the top dogs in town

we do it again next wknd w/NY, this time at Fenway, hopefully culminating w/another Sunday night win, only this time for a Sweep, ya like that, BoSox
