His opinions matter how much? Romney is such a pro at winning elections. Obama made chopped liver of Romney. Mitt - just take your little dignity & go away. You had your chance and lost.

Best line from Mitt shows that he's all over the board with his inconsistent predictions.

“To be honest, it’s very possible in my view that Trump wins,” Romney said. “I wouldn’t think it’d be by a landslide, but I think he could win. I think he could lose, I think he could lose by a landslide.

Romney was so convinced he would beat Obama, he didn't have a concession speech ready. So I wouldn't put much faith in his predictions on elections.

I have complete faith in this prediction. In fact I don't see how it could be wrong:

“To be honest, it’s very possible in my view that Trump wins. I wouldn’t think it’d be by a landslide, but I think he could win. I think he could lose, I think he could lose by a landslide."

Agree.

You and I are saying the same thing from different angles. Romney has hedged his prediction in such a way that he can't be wrong. For what he stated, it wasn't worth the interview.

He's pretty much now irrelevant in the GOP.

The only way Romney can be wrong is if Trump wins in a landslide. I certainly think he is right. If Trump wins it will be close. I don't see Trump picking up any more voters than he already has. Either you are on the Trump train already or you never will be. The only question really is whether people who won't vote for Trump vote for Hillary, stay home, or vote for a third party candidate. I could see Hillary support going up, going down, or staying the same. I don't see Hillary voters going over to the Trump side. I could see Trump support either staying the same or going down, which could result in a landslide. If bad news keeps coming for Hillary and people don't punch her name on the ballot, then Trump can squeak this out with the supporters he already has. Although I think Hillary will still win, there might be just enough dislike for her that people who you think would vote for her will sit out or vote third party. In reality, we are only talking about a few key swing states that matter. I don't see how Trump can win without Florida and Ohio. Clinton needs Florida. If it sounds familiar, it's because we've seen it before. A friend of mine in Oklahoma who has been a Bernie supporter said she will never vote for Hillary and will vote for either Stein or Johnson. It was not even worth my time to convince her otherwise because we already know that Trump is going to win Oklahoma by a landslide, so a protest vote in Oklahoma isn't going to matter like it would in Florida or one of the rust belt states.

This hits to the heart of the matter. In our electoral system we only get to decide who our state will go to. In some states it is pretty clear which way they will go and people can decide to vote for a 3rd party candidate, or not at all, without affecting the outcome. But in the so-called swing states the results can be very close (i.e. Florida 2000) so voters need to be more thoughtful. Even if they'd like to vote for a 3rd party, if there is one major candidate who they feel would be disastrous they would be most effective if they voted for the other major candidate, even if they aren't enthusiastic supporters. Their vote can make a difference. I would love to vote for Gary Johnson, but living in NC I am going to have to be very careful in how I decide to vote. I may end up voting for a candidate I don't like in order to help prevent my state from going to a candidate who is even worse. That is the sad reality.
