I don't buy that any of that can happen. I wouldn't worry too much about Trump and his cabinet. They will only affect you if you allow them to. I know you wouldn't want to sound like all the Obama bashers here.

My biggest disappointment with Obama has been his complete failure with regard to marijuana reform. I've ranted about this very topic many times in this forum and still can't understand why he's wavered so badly.

My only thought is that given his past marijuana use he's reluctant to tarnish his legacy by being the president that at least reschedules....

I'm not sure if anyone saw the Bill Maher episode a few weeks ago when Bill asked him point blank why he hasn't made any effort on this issue only to hear a reply about it being a health issue and not a criminal one. Obama completely ducked the question and Bill never really called him on his lame answer or asked him why he has failed to make it a health issue.

To be clear, yes marijuana abuse, like any drug abuse (including and especially alcohol), should be treated as a health issue. But that doesn't really answer why Obama has done NOTHING to shift the federal response to making it a health issue instead of a war on our own people.

Now we have an ultra right wing zealot soon to be running the Justice Dept. who wants to expand the war on drugs. Very disappointing, Barack Obama!

I thought the individual states were doing their own things related to decriminalizing/legalizing pot. I thought the federal govt.'s role should be against drugs that come over the borders, why should they care if someone has some pot plants in their yard or basement?

My personal opinion of pot is that it is not a good drug for recreational use, you cannot effectively drive while you are high on it, but I guess if you are not going anywhere then that doesn't matter. It has properties that help people with glaucoma and other medical problems, so if someone wants to use it for a medical problem, then that should be up to them.

I basically just think the govt. needs to get out of people's bodies. It should not be the govt.'s role to tell you what you can or cannot put in your body. Your health, your vices are your decision. If you go out driving while stoned and have an accident, then it becomes a public health, safety issue, but if you just want to go home and relax, and use whatever you want to use to do that, it should not be their business.

Again, I just did not think personal pot use was under the auspices of the federal govt., since some states legalized it recently, would the Attorney General overturn state laws or create a federal law to supersede that?

On January 16, 2017, a new form 4473 will go into effect and all old versions of the form not already filled out must be destroyed.

The new version has the same questions, but added to question 11.e is the phrase, " Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medical or recreational purposes in the state where you reside."

So, if you use pot, possess pot, use it under a prescription, or get caught with pot, you can lose your right to purchase a firearm because it is still a Federal Crime to do any of the above, no matter what laws were passed in your state.

And I thought Obama liked pot smokers.
