I used to have a Canadian buddy at work who explained to me, "We Canadians are just like Americans except we don't stand for anything."

There are plenty who wish Neil Young would keep his politics out of his music.
In other words, they wish Neil Young had never picked up a guitar.

Doesn't he know that he will get more support if he sits on his front porch in a rocking chair wearing granny glasses and making a needlepoint cushion with a nice floral BLM theme? He is just drawing negative attention to his race with his unamerican behavior.

There are plenty who wish Neil Young would keep his politics out of his music.
Neil Young was successful in dragging politics into the one place we can go to get away from it. Music is supposed to be a diversion.

For sure, he should have just never joined CSNY and then od'd on heroin after Harvest. So irritating, all that stuff about Cortez, and the Civil War, and Monsanto, and that whole Greendale rant, what a tragic waste of vinyl.

I know Bob Marley isn't Canadian, but he is another good example of a musician who ruined his music with politics.

And let's not even get started on the Jefferson Airplane. Sheez!!

Don't forget John Lennon.

Well, at least he wasn't Canadian. Pretty close though. I can't even IMAGINE how much better his music would have been if he hadn't dragged politics into it.

Come to think of it, there are even a couple of Allman Brothers tunes that were ruined by politics. Tragic. Every time I hear those lines I think, man, that's like putting a moustache on the Mona Lisa, y'know?

Again plenty of ways to give an opinion without using the National Anthem. It is about respect, unity and pride. Things that the USA stand for. Strange when a Canadian cares more about that then some Americans.
Nice to quote just a part to put it out of context. You really fooled everyone with that. That would be Almighty Canadian though. Not big on candy. Most up here just call me James though. Almighty is a bit to God-like but Supreme would work.
Out of context? Sorry, my bad. By saying it's strange that one Canadian person views it differently than some Americans, I incorrectly interpreted those words as being condescending towards those who disagree with some of your neighbors to the South. And it's "too God-like", not "to". Probably a typo. I'm sure it's just one misunderstanding, and that your future posts won't create that same confusion.
Not too long ago, I think the vast majority of Americans would fully agree with that and would take offence with either act. The fact that some are OK with that now is.......well sad.
Doh! Now we common folk here on the Whipping Post are strange AND sad everybody! Wait...first you say that not too long ago a vast majority would fully agree. Doesn't that mean that some did not agree not too long ago? A vast majority implies there was a minority population. But your very next sentence states that you find it sad that the same minority population exists today. How does that work? I'm probably taking your comments out of context again.
I could have quoted your entire post, but your trip to Disney anecdote doesn't change the context. I don't have to try to fool anyone to make my points. I left it out because it's irrelevant. Maybe you are the one trying to fool us here when you type "some" before you type "Americans". Maybe you feel it's more than some? Kinda what it sounds like.
Rapinoe was spot on. Stay in your place black people. BLM is wrong, silent non-violent protests are wrong. Just be good and shut up.

Keep trying. It won't get any better for you but don't want to steal your dreams. True patriot obviously.
Disrespecting the Anthem will obviously fix the problem. Amazing that no one thought of it long ago. Maybe it can fix the homeless situation next. Substance abuse? Crime? Debt? Perhaps banning it completely will solve every issue at once. Hard to imagine Francis Scott Key and John Stafford Smith had such evil intentions. The only thing worse are socks. Ban them too. Or do socks fix the issues? Free socks for everyone. At times, it is difficult to follow these remarkable solutions.
Never thought that disrespect could fix everything. Learn things in the WP every day. Also never said that everyone in the WP was clueless. Just some.
----------------------
Canadians have no problem with Neil Young's political views but some Americans do. He has lived in the US since the 60s. But is still Canadian as he is proud to be. Has plenty of songs about issues in the US but not really about Canada. Those songs are usually about his youth.
I used to have a Canadian buddy at work who explained to me, "We Canadians are just like Americans except we don't stand for anything."
Except of course the Canadian and American National Anthems. 😉

Thank God we have the pertinent expert opinion of a white Canadian living in a country with a 3% black population. Certainly he understands us the most. It's much easier to label CP as disrespectful, and call "some" Americans sad and strange for understanding him, than it is to put yourself in their shoes. But silly me! He went to Disney and saw the REAL America. Such hard-hitting research you did. Only a moron would use a theme park as his example of how America REALLY is. Holy white privilege.

Just curious. With no data to back up anything - I wonder how the number of African Americans mal-treated by police officers stacks up against the number of veterans who have sacrificed limb or life?
I support Kaepernick's stance, but he (and others) need to understand what that silly anthem means to others.
I firmly believe that there are more good cops (priests, teachers, etc.) than there are bad ones. When we find these rogue cops - prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law!
Here's an idea: Kaepernic should suit up - in police blues - and go on a Saturday night patrol in a car with some seasoned officers through ... oh, I don't know - a southside Chicago beat. Just for fun.
Peace, y'all.

Rusty, agreed. But many veterans support him 100% saying they fought so he can protest. But to me, the people who should be most outraged by the various recent videos of police brutality are the good cops. But I haven't seen too much of that. When the black community expressed outrage at these incidents, they were met with backlash - "hey, give those cops a break. They have a tough job." Wrong answer. Yes, they have a tough job, but when they take that oath, they are accepting a greater responsibility than civilians. If everyone saw those videos and said "those cops broke the law and should be prosecuted"' then I don't think BLM begins.

You are absolutely right on all counts.

Silly to use a cross section of Americans from States all over the US to get a feel on various issues. Absolutely insane. Sorry next time, I will travel all over the country and take a poll on various issue to see if there are more like you. Luckily I was happy with the cross section of people who are not like you. Works for me. Don't really care what works for you.
Also I have travelled all over the States for a long time with only a few that I haven't visited. I sense that you have not travelled to Canada at all or little but perhaps I am wrong. Either way, I have seen more of the US than many Americans have. Liked the people and the places as I travelled.
Never mentioned anyone being sad or strange for understanding CK or his issues. Only for a lack of respect and pride in your Anthem and Nation. I have not brought up the race issue at all. But with limited IQ and the fact that you don't actually read other peoples' posts, it does not surprise me at all that it eluded you.
I am glad that you believe race issues do not occur in Canada but again you would be wrong as are your percentages of population. But don't allow facts to stop you as it hasn't in the past.
Also I have never presumed to know what race you are which you have done with me. But again you are wrong which comes as no surprise as you are good at it. But facts matter little to you. Next you will be providing an imaginary genealogy for me which should be amusing.
Name calling is for children but with your mentality, it likely makes you feel intelligent. Has absolutely no effect on me but if it makes you feel good then glad I could help.
Keep trying. But you really do make this too easy for me.
Please feel free to further enlighten me on my race or my stance on racial issues and don't let any actual facts get in your way.
I did say that I don't think CK's methods are the best choice and that it pollutes any message that he is trying to make. I did say that there are better methods to get his messages across without turning some against him. I never said that he had no right to do what he has done. I am a firm believer that lack of respect will accomplish nothing and that I miss the sense of pride that some Americans had in their Nation. Never mentioned race though or my feelings on the issue. But you know how I feel, right?
Feel free to make up any sort of crap that you want to. Once you are finished telling me what race I am or what my views on racism are, could you start working on my views on religion for me?
You are funny. Sad but funny. As I said, keep trying. That is assuming you are actually making an effort even if it doesn't seem like it.

It would be hard to think of something less politically charged than music has been. Besides I said race not politics in the first place.

You sure have a lot to say to a sad, strange, stupid person who isn't trying. Strike a nerve did I? No affect on you my a$$! At any rate, for someone who believes that name-calling is childish, you sure do a lot of it yourself....how sad, strange, and disrespectful we are and all.
I made my point, you made yours. I'm moving on.

People can sit or stand as much as they want. Nothing is changing on this issue at any time in the future.

At any time in the future? That sounds a bit defeatist. Just to be clear, the issue we're talking about is racial justice in policing, right?

Good lord ! I can't believe the noise I am hearing here! All the man did was demonstrate dissent by sitting during the national anthem! And then the issue becomes all about a symbolic gesture towards a symbol ! Perfectly peaceful, gentlemanly, and apparently effective at gaining attention, as any successful protest is.
I suppose next you will want to exhume Jimi Hendrix and lynch his skeleton for trashing the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock? And what about all the hippies who didn't stand up for that performance?
This is all starting to sound like Nazis going after less-than-enthusiastic Germans for not Seig Heiling the swastika flag ! Give it a rest ! This is a free country !
Gimme a freakin break !
Hyoo dit nottt stant unt salute for zeee fuhrer !!!!!

Yes, that's the issue, and, no, nothing is going to change. The prevalent noise won't allow any meaningful discussion, like so many other issues.
Our society continues to drown in a sea of confirmation bias, there are no solutions.

No mention of making a fool of yourself with my race and how " Holy white privileged" I am. Nor the fact that you tried to claim that I mentioned anything about race at all. LOL
Sad - strange - this is name calling to you? Also never said everyone here was - only a few but you would be in that group. Stupid does fit you though and is indeed an insult and sometimes a fact but you proved it and not me.
Troll is what you are though. Not sure whether you even like the ABB as your last music related post was a year ago. LOL
Strike a nerve? You are simply not capable. Not even in the Top 50 Trolls here.

Racism needs to be eliminated. I bet it won't be fixed by sitting or socks.

there are 50 trolls?

No, but there are 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. Hahaha, there aren't even 15 posters left in the Whipping Post!
Re "racism not being eliminated by sitting or socks", no, certainly not all at once, but the gestures and actions do add up, and America continues to evolve. People do what they can, the ideas they come up with to express dissent might seem stupid, but at least they are trying, which is more than most. We are doing pretty well, hell, slavery wasn't that long ago, and Jim Crow was practically yesterday. We'll get there.

Including HOF Members of course. Hell some people have been a dozen or more all by themselves. 😛 Some of them actually even discussed the Allmans occasionally.
Never really got the "go to a band's forum" and never talk music. But we all Captain our ships.

😛 ok CM

I have faith in that also.
Are there still 15? 😮 Maybe counting some of our duo personality members who post at themselves and still lose the debate.

Hahaha- I don't know, the Whipping Post is kind of a dinosaur graveyard by now. Hey, well at least every post in this WP thread was about music !
