NASCAR Fantasy Yahoo League
Nascar has to be embarrassed by the attendance.
Speaking of those that should be embarrassed.......
Sang in first place!
I think it is great you are doing well....maybe you will even start to like it a little bit? With basketball and hockey winding down and no football yet. Give you something to watch maybe?
Atleast you aren't like Bhawk who gave up some weeks ago.
But if you finish the season in first I'll come back to Chicago and buy you a pizza this time!

Saving this just in case.........
Well, last week sucked....... I changed my lineup before the deadline, but must not have hit 'save roster', because the results showed my old roster - and I had added Truex back in the mix......
I understand the Charlotte track is "the home track" for Nascar and that its owner is an influential guy in that world, BUT I have always thought it was a poor track for Memorial Day weekend and the 3rd leg in the "Greatest Day in Motorsports."
All the tracks like Charlotte favor one or two drivers that nail the setup, so those drivers get out front and the rest try to play catch up.
Don't get me wrong, kudos to Truex and what a good story for him to finally win one this year, but for that day, I wish the Nascar race was a track with a little more bumping and banging and side by side racing.
Just one fan's opinion, in a field of many.

I didn't give up, I suspended my campaign. 😛

Well, of course, the 600-miler has always been at Charlotte, the way things have always been done, all that.
This year was quite the anomaly, though. It's more impressive that the set-up was nailed and nothing changed after the sun went down, which can have such a huge effect in this race. A quick look at the past results looks like the 600 averages around 20-30 lead changes.
I do love Charlotte, I admit. One of the coolest racetracks I've ever been to.

My Dad and I made several 600s in a row back in the mid-to-late 80's and I think the last was in '92 because that was when Gordon won the Busch race on Saturday in the Baby Ruth Ford. We saw the first Winston, which Waltrip won and promptly blew his engine at the finish line. Blown motors are hard to inspect.
It was always a great trip as we would go for the Busch and Cup race. There for a few years, Dad somehow wrangled hospitality passes for Exxon Superflo. One year we had breakfast in the Hendrick garage where the Geoff Bodine ride was prepared and Mr. Hendrick was the speaker. I met many drivers, got my hat covered in signatures and even met Tim Richmond one time. I will always treasure that time with Dad, drinking beer and being race fans in the truest NASCAR sense. Hell, I even had an '85 black Monte Carlo SS with Dale Earnhardt hats in the back window. So, I think Charlotte IS the place to have a race on Memorial Day. Just my two cents worth.
Cool story Alan!
I've only been to races in Charlotte, about 5 I think. I've camped, stayed in a hotel and stayed at a friend's mobile home across from the track.
With all the race teams being headquartered in the area and so many drivers have homes in the area it makes it an easy choice to be there over a 2 week period. And for those that bring the RVs and camp for both weeks it is in a good spot for fans. Some tracks are a little further away from hotels and restaraunts and stuff. Charlotte speedway has alot around it.
Jimmie Johnson dominated that track for a while. So one team or driver can really run away with it at times, but ultimately I think the location of the track makes it the best spot for NASCAR to do these races even if the competition on the track isn't always the best.
I watched the entire thing. It was not competitive, but the fact that cars like the 48 and the 4 couldn't lay a hand on Truex all night just made for some really cool dominance. I can respect a 49-0 blowout in football too if the teams involved are pretty equal and even. The fact the 78 was so dominant I think was really cool even if it was a little boring in terms of action.
Like to mention that I am slowly climbing out of the lowest reaches of the standings.
Also watching Indy and Charlotte last weekend, 1100 miles of racing was a bit of challenge as the 600 was brutal to watch. indy was great, those guys are insane to run open wheel at those speeds.
I love all kinds of racing but 600 miles of the 78 car beating on the competition got a bit old.
I know its a bit until playoffs but 88 needs to find the will to win again. He needs to drink a couple of mtn dews pre-race to wake up from his nap time.
Pocono this week and no more Darrel Waltrip until next spring!!! gonna miss Gordon and Mike but Darrell needs to slide into retirement.

I agree 100% !
I was indifferent about the news of Gordon coming into the booth, but he has turned out great, love some of his insights. Mike Joy is just pure racing knowledge, perfect announcer.
Darrell, please call your financial guy and have him work the numbers again for your retirement.
Roadcourse racing this weekend after last week "bye"
Looks like Sang stopped paying attention.
Been golfing a lot, forgot to update my roster...... but I'll still beat DanB........ 😛

You are still looking alright since we drop the single lowest scoring week each segment, so that one from yesterday is your current lowest and not counted.
How about Tony Stewart yesterday ?
When Truex got close to him, I know Truex is a fair racer, it seemed like ole Martin may have thought to himself - "do I want to be the guy known as bumping Smoke out of the way for a win?" and then backed off a little bit, (maybe he just didn't have the car, I don't know.)
Then when Hamlin got close, he didn't have that same problem. It did seem like both Smoke and Denny were making a few mistakes at the end, leaving openings.
I was thinking after Hamlin took the lead, man that sucked, Denny will catch grief for this win - then he left a hole on that last corner, maybe looking in his mirror too much, went wide and Smoke took the lead back and got the win.
Denny was gracious afterwards, if there ever is an acceptable place to bump someone out of your way, it is for the lead and win on the last corner of the race.
Congrats to Tony, I was not thinking he would get a win this season, so way to go Smoke !
I didn't think it was that interesting of a race until that caution after 14 pitted. Never really understood what 48's pit strategy was. That long pit stop that 19 had, he never recovered from. 41 really faded after the very early going. Looked like a 3 horse race between 11, 18 and 78. Seeing Hamlin run that good was the biggest surprise of the day. Stewart is good on that kind of course, and was strong until about mid race when it seemed like he overdrove one of those corners and his car dropped some spots and he looked stuck between 17-20 position before that fateful decision to pit.
I thought Truex could've put the bumper too him like you did, but we saw him play nice.
I almost got a feeling like Denny wasn't going to really be aggressive for the lead unless Tony screwed up. Tony screwed up and Denny capitalized. Now what Denny did on the last turn really confuses me. He had been following Stewart for all those laps, knowing where, when and how to brake in those corners to be in position to pass and what does he do with the lead, he blows it. I'm not sure he gave it away on purpose, but I wonder how a professional driver the quality of Denny screws the last corner up of the last lap so badly?
Second Pocono race this year to race on Monday. Green flag dropping around 12:30 or so they are saying (hopefully). Still will be some rain in the area...takes 3 hours to dry that huge track. Everyone will be planning on getting to halfway and see what happens from there.
Sang just posted 399 pts in fantasy...drivers finished 1, 2, 5, 7...all led laps. And he kept the pole sitter on his bench and used Harvick instead who ran better.
399 pts is easily the highest I've seen, maybe saw like 350-360 before.
Blind squirrel............. 😛
I know absolutely nothing about NASCAR, but I joined the league for 2 reasons:
1. nebish asked me
2. I wanted to beat my redneck buddies Woods and DanB
I didn't really know how the league worked, but I figured it out after a while.
I smoked Woods, and had DanB until the last few weeks....
I finished 4th out of 11 for the entire season...... I'll take it.... 😛
You did great!
Glad you played. I watch the races, so makes it more fun for me that way. I imagine most of the people who play the league don't watch all the races. The girl that won, I know she didn't watch more than a few minutes of the races.
Almost was able to pass her for the lead on that last race until Carl wrecked screwed it all up. My wife was with her that day, I'm watching the race hoping I can beat her and Jenny texts me "Tonya wants to know what is happening in the race". She ain't even watchin and she going to win it all.
