I saw that altercation, I thought it was no big deal actually. Words and yelling, no punches.

Weren't they just in Pocono ? Ha, ha - slightly different pit box selection and qualifying format this time around.

And of course all of the driver moves going on, good for little Blaney ! Sort of odd for Menard, but hey, maybe he can do something there.

I like stuff like that, makes things interesting. I was surprised that it was a crew chief acting that way and the fact that the 18 and 78 are defacto teamates.

Some of my friends have been to Pocono, said it is a horrible race to go to, real big mostly flat, can't see much, alot of potential for storms and rain. Seems like a decent race for NASCAR to drop to 1 on, but alot of politics in that kind of stuff.

Menard is interesting since he brings his own sponsor to the table which is pretty rare. Will have to see is Motorcraft is still going to be the main sponsor or what. But yeah, RCR despite 2 wins this year hasn't been the most competitive. Might be a step up for Paul with the Penske alliance Wood Brothers have.

Re: step up for Menard - I was thinking the same thing, sad how far RCR has sunk.

Nascar is bleeding out. Amazing how attendance and ratings have fallen off.

Darlington was running a promo that a resident of the state could save a whopping $25 on the purchase of 2 tickets for the Southern 500. Select grandstands only aka nosebleeds

And sponsorship dropping off in some cases too.

Target is no longer interested in motorsports. They have one of the best and hottest drivers in NASCAR in Kyle Larson, plus Indy car presence but are pulling the plug.

Then you have the struggles of Matt Kenseth's team in securing sponsorship throughout this season. Gibbs is one of the premier programs in the sport and they can't attract adequate sponsorship to a team?

Alright, Watkins Glen !

Denny Hamlin may not race due to girlfriend possibly going into labor http://www.nascar.com/news-media/2017/08/02/denny-hamlin-baby-watch-watkins-glen-regan-smith-standby-sub/

So how will that work in the yahoo league if you pick him and Regan ends up driving the car ?

I'll pick him if you take Boris Said.

Ahh, nevermind, taking Hamlin anyhow.

If Regan Smith drives Hamlin's car, using Hamlin would net you 0 points. If yahoo added Regan Smith to their driver group you could use him and he would net you whatever points he earned in the race. Qualifying is Sunday so you should be able to know what is going on by Saturday night I would think.

Trying to remember from before, if a driver were to start the race, but have to exit the car and a backup driver takes his place midrace the fantasy points stay with the driver that started the race. If a driver was supposed to start the race, but never got into the car, then the points would go with the driver who replaced him (assuming yahoo has that person on their list).

Sang won the spring and is leading the summer with 4 to go. Some lucky squirrel you are!

I'm 49 back, Heineken only 40 back from me. Don't be counting your nuts yet Sang!

Strange race kinda. No real wrecks, I think the only cautions were the scheduled stage ends. Oh, there was one I think during the last stage. Funny how everyone was saving and then Truex ended up with a bunch of fuel left at the end.

danb storming up the leader board, blasting into 1st for the summer and leaping Heineken for 3rd overall!

I listened to race on the radio, sounded like there was some good racing for the lead....among the Toyotas and occasionally Larson.

Terrible week for me, dropped 11000 spots!!!

Great to hear Ned Jarrett on telecast last night. He really brings it home that this was a one time a backyard garage sport. Love his insight on riding the rails and installing wood in fenders to beef up body panels for racing at Darlington.

IMO that's whats missing from Nascar these days. To much regulation and no chance to "cheat" the system.

Yeah, alot of cookie cutter stuff these days in the cars...not just similar tracks. Seems all the speed and tricks comes from guys with engineering degrees these days, it's all high tech and aerodynamics.

I think nascar just wants all the cars to be the same and just market the drivers.

Probably one of the only reasons I watch racing is because I like the fantasy competition of it. Have to always bust my friend's balls who stop playing though. We got a good race going in the yahoo league!

Now that nascar and football are on the same time I won't be watching any more Saturday races and will have to divide my attention on Sundays.

And another boring race....this weekend should be a real snooze fest too. Maybe the drivers skills are too high but man nothing happens out there.

None of the current personalities are marketable. It's stunning how many just flat out unlikeable guys there are in the Top 10 every week.

NASCAR sacrificed long-term prosperity for shot-term gain, now they pay for it. It's one thing to profit off a bubble. It's another to not prepare for it, plus The Winston Cup Era and the modern soul of the sport died when Dale Earnhardt hit that wall. NASCAR has never recovered...just gone down this slow rabbit hole.

The "stages" in races are ridiculous. It now doesn't matter that Darlington is back on Labor Day Weekend after 11 years. The tradition of what it was is broken. Brian France actively "de-Southernized" NASCAR for ten years and now, when he now needs those folks he left behind more than ever, they ain't there.

I think most sports in N. America are becoming way too vanilla. Too much money on the line for crashing and banging. Sponsors over react to any independent thought or action. Kapernik not playing may have more to do with NFL sponsors then owners. Too much money on the line.

True, but you still need personalities. Sports media does not market Packers vs. Giants. They market Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers vs. Eli Manning and the New York Giants.

Who is marketable in NASCAR right now? The Brothers Busch? Keslowski? Harvick? Larson? Hamlin? Truex?

Going from Earnhardt, Gordon, Stewart, Wallace, Jarrett, Martin, Junior, the brothers Burton and Labonte, etc over the last 10-15 years to the current crop is an incredible dropoff in personalities. We don't even have a Jimmy Spencer or a Sterling Marlin type, we sure don't have a Dick Trickle.

The technology and speed won't hold interest like it used to, there's nothing to connect the car on the track to the cars everyone drives on the street, and consumers aren't nearly as brand-loyal (or nationalistic) when it comes to cars as they once were. Personalities are a must.

I agree with everything you say. K Busch is trying his best to be a villian and Kyle Larson is a great driver but lack of personality/drama/soap opera/storyline is killing Nascar.

NASCAR and these teams are learning their expenditures are not sustainable because the spigot is turning off and they'll all left scrambling for money. Lots of people in trouble with securing sponsors and commitments.

When some teams are hogging all the sponsorship dollars this is not going to end well. I think they are trying to reign in costs but when a team has several cars dedicated to certain style of tracks and multiple haulers running everywhere dropping the jack man is not going to do shit to save money.

Pretty soon getting a 40 car starting lineup every week is going to be a challenge.

It's as if Brian France is trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again by taking a hammer to the largest pieces.

So Sang, if I come to buy you a pizza in Chicago if you win this fantasy league (you won't haha), what do you give me if I win? DanB trying to make it a 3 man race. What happened to Heineken, faded a bit. LeglizHemp in 4th place overall, they watch NASCAR in Australia?

Did you not use Kyle Busch this week because you thought I would use him? That's the reason I didn't use him because I thought you would. Worked out good for both of us though.
