Thoughts?

Kind of glad I often got my @$$ busted as a kid, helped me understand respect and taught me right from wrong. Hell, they still paddle at the high school I went to and the middle school too. If you got sent to the office you got to choose your punishment, 3 licks with a wooden paddle or 3 days suspension.

I think parents should be able to make that decision on their own.

Schools on the other hand, should consult parents first.

Edit: I clearly remember my kindergarten teacher had a pool cue that she smacked on desks and tables, don't remember her actually using it on kids but she had it - IN KINDERGARTEN

Also, vivid recollection of grade school, which for me was K-6, so I was 6 grade or younger, principal had us all lined up in the hallway, lecturing us on something, had his standard paddle in hand, walking down the line of kids, stopping in front of me and whacking me straight down on my head with that paddle, again - GRADE SCHOOL.

The rest of my schooling included the same, a sadistic gym teacher that made you take off your sneaker and he'd use that on you, an equally sadistic shop teacher that gave you a choice, whacks or (summer time) standing the whole class while holding a chair above your head and if you let it down, got the whacks anyhow and (winter time, NE Ohio) leaning against the metal garage door with your hands on it (cold) and if you let go, got the whacks anyhow.

All funny looking back on it now and I am sure many of you have similar stories, but in hindsight, too cruel for kids.

And children in California are considered "victims" by the State.

The California State Legislature passed a bill and Gov. Moonbeam signed the new law Legalizing Child Prostitution.

??? Yeah- had to follow up on that post myself. Looks like the new law is a brilliant strategy move. They give law enforcement power to take kids into custody, but don't arrest them, while holding adults involved responsible. My first thought is this could actually grant more interference power to authorities, as pimps can't go post bail as they do in a typical arrest, which could kill the street-station-street revolving door, and keeps kids from getting flushed into the prison system through no fault of their own. It rocks.

I know some parents that say they would never spank their child. Then I at times see that child behaving in a way that justifies a spanking.

I remember being a kid and there was the threat of not only a spanking, but the belt! I was chased around by the belt one time. It gave me a respectful fear of my parents and understanding consequences to acting out. Now I see kids threatened that if they are bad they won't get a special treat at night.

It drove an unspoken wedge between my father and I for a while and I know he regretted being too hard on me at times, not just talking about spanking here, but making me do things twice or talking at me a certain way to see what I'm doing or what is about to happen. But I recall so many of those things as I got older and realized why my Dad or my parents were doing it. They loved me so much, they showed me plenty of love. But were not afraid to show the consequences side either.

I think maybe some people that had parents who were tough on them growing up say they will never want to be a parent like that and it kind of leads to the slippery slope of general misbehaving by youth..a general lack of respect for authority, right and wrong, consequences for actions, etc.

I don't regret any of the punishment I got as a child, I only regret putting my parents in the position to have to do it.

Schools on the other hand gets into a very gray area. In my case, the school would never have to spank me because if my parents found out what I did they would take care of it. Now we have parents who think their kid can do no wrong or fights against non-contact punishment handed out by schools. School are in a tough spot. I think our society is in a tough spot because of the breakdown of good parenting. Not spanking parents necessarily, but parents that care, parents that are even around or involved in their kids' lives.

Man you got that right.
You go to a left-wing political activist site, well known for misrepresenting the facts, and actually believe the crap they post.

The child prostitute cannot be arrested so the prosecutors will have no witness to go after the johns or pimps.

Good job California.
The liberals who worship celebrities can be assured their idols can legally get themselves children to sexually assault.

Wonder what other websites muleski is assigned to, or if the WP is a fulltime tour of duty? Or more likely he just read.Catcher in the Rye and is a Manchurian Candidate for Ralph Reed.

1 - Even my parents friends were allowed to physically discipline us.

2 - My high school gym teachers never hit us; NYC public school. But I used to torment them verbally; they would respond by making me run mile after mile. They also put me at Quarterback in a touch/tackle football game. Put all the Neanderthals against me with pygmies as my teammates. It was all kind of fun before kids became a "protected/endangered" species
