Humanitarian Crisis $4 Billion Needed

20 million people will starve to death in Africa and related countries if $4 BILLION in food aid is not received by the end of this week. Maybe they will die over Passover. But what is the world's responsibility to feed poor people in countries with no jobs and infrastructure?
Sudan, Yemen, Somalia and Nigeria need more than $5 billion this year. Trump has cut $10 billion in foreign aid. There are 300,000 people in Syria who are cut off from water, have no functioning hospitals. They may be dead within weeks.

Where is the world outcry? Oh that's right the Council on Foreign Relations chooses your news and doesn't tell you. Why can't the local armies and infrastructure help the people in Africa build wells, provide irrigation so that they can have some crops? Or is it because Monsanto does not have agreements with them to provide genetically modified crops?.....
7 countries in 5 years. Somalia & Sudan. Well when the people are dead from starvation there should be no resistance to anyone coming in to help manage the oil and other resources of the country. That's the reality of the world we are living in.

You're a Trump supporter. Why do you care about other people, especially people from other countries? And people with brown skin? With spending cuts coming soon to hurt our own poor and elderly, surely you don't expect the the Trump administration to help poor people with brown skin in another part of the world. That makes no sense at all.

Trump is not a racist, just because he is wealthy you think he does not care, that is untrue. I think he does not know about many things in other parts of the world. I would like people all over the world to do the right things, we all have our parts in that effort. Eventually, people will realize many things when the playing field is more equal than it is now. When people become aware of injustice they can try to do something. That includes everyone on whatever level they want to.

By all means, then, elect him President. Makes total sense.

Cutting Meals on Wheels to pay for a wall to keep out Mexicans. Yup, such a caring guy. Maybe he'll write a check himself. Oh wait, he only writes checks from his charity from other people's money to settle lawsuits. Nevermind.

Do you think that illegal workers should be allowed to come to another country and take jobs away from that country's people? That is what the Mexicans have done. We can all agree opportunities are more limited in their country, but they do not have the right to just come here and stay here illegally taking American jobs and using services previously reserved for citizens. No other country does that.
I do agree that Meals on Wheels is an important program for homebound people with HIV and the poor elderly, but I also think the States need to start taking care of their people rather than putting the entire responsibility on the federal govt. The states get a free pass by saying, well they cut our funding so we can't dole out money to these programs.

The only problem is the net migration from Mexico is now zero. Just as many people are leaving as coming.
If you wanted to get serious about Mexicans taking American jobs, the best way to do it is to come down HARD on employers who hire them, starting with huge fines and jail time for repeat violators. Much cheaper and far more effective. Unless the wall has armed guards 24 hours a day stationed 100 yards appart, the wall will do nothing other than being a very long and expensive canvas for graffiti.

More than 20 million people are on the brink of famine in Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, according to the U.N. When addressing the U.N. Security Council on March 10th, U.N. Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O’Brien said, “We stand at a critical point in history. Already at the beginning of the year, we are facing the largest humanitarian crisis since the creation of the UN.” It’s not hyperbole, the organization, which was founded in October of 1945, has never reported numbers this devastating.
Under President Donald Trump, the United States is primed to do less than nothing to address these horrors. Keeping levels of foreign aid where they are following this news would be abhorrent enough (especially given the fact that it only accounts for about 1% of the federal budget) but the president intends to go the other way—and slash the foreign assistance budget to bits to pay for a $54 billion surge in defense spending. The U.S. spends around $600 billion on defense each year, and around $40 billion on foreign assistance.
While there are clear and present issues within our federal aid system involving waste, misappropriated funds, and questionable subcontracting practices that need to be addressed, pulling a significant amount of money from the program right now is heartless. It would be a death sentence for millions throughout Africa and in Yemen. It’s also worth noting that the current administration is set to resume arms sales to the Saudi Coalition fighting in Yemen. This particular $300 million sale was frozen by President Obama after reports of widespread civilian casualties became too persistent to ignore. In the eyes of many, the Obama administration turned a blind eye to war crimes committed with the aid of American intelligence, using warplanes refueled on U.S. tankers and armed with American-made weapons.
While Obama certainly deserves to be criticized on Yemen, at least civilian lives factored in eventually; they don’t seem to play a role at all in President Trump’s decision-making.
Fellow republicans Mitch McConnell and Marco Rubio came out against the proposed aid cuts citing the importance of non-military diplomacy and international engagement. It’s highly unlikely Trump’s cuts will end up being anywhere near as dramatic as what he’s proposed. But a budget proposal is a moral document that assigns number values to elements of government—it shows us where a president’s priorities lie.
It shows us that this president will turn his back on starving children to pay for more warplanes and a wall, and he won’t feel bad about it. If you ask him, or many of his supporters, he/they will say we (the U.S.) need to fix the problems we have here at home and stop spending so much money in Asia and Africa et.al. Of course, this is based on a perceived mutual exclusivity that doesn’t exist. One does not directly impact the other. Trump isn’t taking aid money from Africa to fund universal healthcare, or to care for our veterans, or to tackle homelessness, or to dismantle income inequality, or to fix our federal justice system, or to repair our roads and bridges, or to fund scholarships for the poor, or to provide job training for those whose careers were lost to innovation and outsourcing. We can provide foreign aid and still improve the overall quality of life at home. Anyone who tells you different is lying, just look at the numbers.
Trump is intending to use foreign aid money, and cuts to a myriad of low income and arts programs and the EPA to build up our already colossal military industrial complex; he’s using it to make a $600 billion budget a $654 billion dollar budget.
His callous and boorish approach is a byproduct of his misguided nationalism. For Trump, national strength is tactile and simplistic: it’s forged from steel and blood, it’s painted on the sides of warplanes. It’s not about helping people or diplomacy, it’s about making money and kicking ass.
Who cares about hundreds of thousands of children starving to death, we need a new F-35.

Not a heartless bastard, let me say that right up front.
At the top of this thread it says - "if $4 billion is not received by the end of this week"
In the above article it says - we are facing the largest humanitarian crisis since the creation of the UN.” It’s not hyperbole, the organization, which was founded in October of 1945, has never reported numbers this devastating.
Now all of a sudden it is the President's fault, who has only been in office 3 months and is "talking about" reductions ?
So that would imply that all of the money given since 1945 is still not enough, right?
How much would be enough ?
Let's get a list of all Presidents since 1945 and throw tomatoes at them !

So if x amount of money and aid is made available and necessary food and supplies are distributed, then this problem just goes away forever right? They will be sustainable and able to survive on their own without any future outside help? Is that the case? Or is it just a revolving door or more money needed, more aid, again and again and again?
The world may be able to give them aid and support for the short term, but we can't do very much to change the circumstances that create such a problem in the first place unless the UN or some other collection of foreign counties wants to colonize, overthrow governments and intertwine one's self in a never ending conflict with the civil and religious wars that break out in these places.

President Trump has not proposed cutting any federal funds from the Meals on Wheels programs.
That fake news was created by the corrupt liberal media.
Every time they have been asked to prove where President Trump has proposed that they will not answer.
Why is it that the left, so consumed with hate, need to lie?
A lack of ideas themselves or simply a lack of conscience?

Does anyone really think that sending U.S. taxpayer money will end up feeding anyone?
Sudan, Yemen, Somalia and Nigeria either have no functioning governments and/or corruption is so entrenched that their people are going to starve.
While The U.S. can help doing so would accomplish nothing.
Africa is not the United States problem.
Maybe they just need a revolution.
