He didn't have to veto anything for the last four years because Reid and the democrats in the senate refused to allow any GOP house bill to even come up for a vote and making sure nothing went to obama's desk. Now obama will have use the veto.
So Obama uses the veto. Hmmmm. I guess the "victory" that you are gloating about is a little hollow. Oh well, you can always hope that in 2016 a Republican gets the White House. Nah. Not likely.
There is some, albeit a sliver of common ground to work on. I think it's possible to get some infrastructure work done, for instance. You want to see Obama veto that?
Are you sure you're not getting a little ahead of yourself, banking on a Democrat win in 2016? There's no telling what could happen between now and that election.
One of the few posts of yours (outside of the sports threads) that I can agree with.
I will add that if the GOP pushes through bills that don't have any buy in from the Dems before they reach Obama's desk and he uses the veto, they own a big part of that, it is not all on the President. Finding common ground, by definition, cannot be one-sided.

So why couldn't the Rs in the Senate work with Reid to pass some bills? Sounds like they didn't have the leadership skills/ability to get it done and all they can do is blame Reid, which is a sign of weakness. Hope they can do better with a majority.

The answer is simple.
Harry Reid refused to allow any bill coming out of the House to be discussed, let alone come up for a vote.
While Obama and the left-wing press constantly blamed the Republicans as the "do nothing congress", in truth it was Reid and the democrats.
The country knows it and threw the democrats in the senate out of power.

How you can tell Obama and the democrats are in real trouble: Dana Milbank, a rabid anti-GOP far left opinion hack from The Washington Post, a far-left rag writes the day after The American People reject Obama, his policies and Reid and the democrats says:
Dana Milbank: Obama seems numb to this latest ‘shellacking’ of Democrats
By Dana Milbank Opinion writer November 5 at 8:10 PM
“I hear you,” President Obama said to the voters who gave Democrats an electoral drubbing in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
But their message went in one presidential ear and out the other.
Dana Milbank writes about political theater in the nation’s capital. He joined the Post as a political reporter in 2000. View Archive
The Republican victory was a political earthquake, giving the opposition party control of the Senate, expanding its House majority to a level not seen in generations and burying Democratic gubernatorial candidates.
Yet when Obama fielded questions for an hour Wednesday afternoon, he spoke as if Tuesday had been but a minor irritation. He announced no changes in staff or policy, acknowledged no fault or error and expressed no contrition or regret. Though he had called Democrats’ 2010 losses a “shellacking,” he declined even to label Tuesday’s results.
Obama declared that he would continue with plans for executive orders to expand legal status to undocumented immigrants — even though, minutes before Obama’s news conference, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said that would be “like waving a red flag in front of a bull.” Obama repeated a familiar list of priorities — a minimum-wage hike, infrastructure and education spending, climate-change action — and brushed off various Republican proposals.
An eclectic group is coming to Congress — or moving across the Capitol from the House to the Senate. Here are a few.
Democratic candidate for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District Brad Ashford, speaks to supporters Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014 at an election night party in Omaha, Ne. (AP Photo/Dave Weaver) Dave Weaver/AP
About the closest Obama got to a concession was offering to have some Kentucky bourbon with McConnell (he had once joked about how unpleasant a drink with McConnell would be) and “letting John Boehner beat me again at golf.”
President George W. Bush was rarely one to admit error, but on the day after the midterm “thumpin’?” Republicans received eight years ago, he responded dramatically. Bush announced the ouster of defense chief Donald Rumsfeld and set in motion a new Iraq policy. He also offered a frank acknowledgment that everything had changed: “The election’s over and the Democrats won, and now we’re going to work together for two years to accomplish big objectives for the country.”
Obama was blase by comparison. “Obviously, Republicans had a good night,” he said, but “beyond that, I’ll leave it to all of you and the professional pundits to pick through yesterday’s results.” The message that Obama took from the election, he said, was that Americans “want us to get the job done. All of us in both parties have a responsibility to address that sentiment.”
It’s true that voters are disgusted with both parties, but they were particularly unhappy with Obama. In exit polls, 33 percent said their votes were to show disapproval of him (19 percent said they were showing support). In The Post, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid’s chief of staff all but blamed Obama for the loss.
But Obama wasn’t about to acknowledge fault, or the need for change. He allowed that, as president, he has “a unique responsibility to try and make this town work.” But his solution was to defer responsibility: “I look forward to Republicans putting forward their governing agenda.”
Indeed, Tuesday’s returns did not trouble him greatly, he said. “There are times when you’re a politician and you’re disappointed with election results,” he said. “But maybe I’m just getting older. I don’t know. It doesn’t make me mopey.”
Reporters tried, with little success, to elicit any hint of a new direction from Obama.
After election night's blow to the Democratic Party with the Republican takeover of the Senate, President Obama says that he can work with the GOP on the areas they agree on, like creating new jobs. (AP)
“Do you feel any responsibility to recalibrate your agenda?” asked Julie Pace of the Associated Press.
Obama leaned casually on the lectern, left toe touching right heel. “A minimum-wage increase, for example,” he said, is “something I talked about a lot during the campaign.”
But any changes? “Every single day, I’m looking for, ‘How can we do what we need to do better?’?” was the vague reply.
ABC News’s Jon Karl asked whether it was “a mistake for you to do so little to develop relationships with Republicans in Congress.”
“Every day I’m asking myself, ‘Are there some things I can do better?’?” Obama demurred.
Fox News’s Ed Henry pointed out the obvious: “I haven’t heard you say a specific thing during this news conference that you would do differently.”
Obama restated his passive stance, saying it would be “premature” to talk about changing personnel or policies. “What I’d like to do is to hear from the Republicans.”
NPR’s Scott Horsley gave a last try, asking Obama whether he saw “some shortcoming on your part” because Democratic policies fared better than Democratic candidates.
(Minimum-wage increases passed in five states, and exit polls found support for Democratic views on climate change, immigration, abortion, same-sex marriage and health care.)
Obama replied in the conditional: “If the way we are talking about issues isn’t working, then I’m going to try some different things.”
But after Tuesday, it’s no longer a question of “if.”

The Democrats lead the way on telling blacks that they should vote based on their blackness and women should vote for Democrats because they are women. And the poor should vote for Democrats because democrats love the poor. It's all nonsense and it lets them avoid talking about the issues that affect people's lives such as the stagnant state of the economy. I am not a Republican but I have grown to loathe the Democratic party to which I have belonged all my life. I've never seen such small minded non-issue based campaigning and I'm glad it backfired.

The American People have spoken and said loud and clear that We The People reject Obama and his failed policies specifically and Reid and the Democrats policy of obstruction in general.
The People chose Republicans to lead and to get the work of the country done.
From the Senate, The House, The Governorships and State Legislatures the liberals were kicked to the curb and people that can actually get the job done were elected en mass. The message to the Democrats was clear: stop the politics of hate, race hustling, over regulation, government mismanagement, corruption, malfeasance and lying.
Obama himself, out campaigning at tax-payers expense to the tune of tens of millions of dollars, said while he was not on the ballot this election, his polities were. Every one of them.
The American citizens wholesale rejected his failed policies. Now the people can get their freedoms back, get a good job again and be proud of their country.
It is a good day to be an American again.

LOL, Yeah because the Republican did such a great job running our country for the 8 years under Bush getting us stuck in two unwinnable wars, turning a budget surplus into a deficit and handing Obama an economy that was on the brink of collapse. mission accomplished!
That being said I will repeat this again as you don't seem to understand it but Congressional turnover his historically cyclical so this is no big deal in the big scheme of things other than for bragging rights. The power is in the Presidency and until the Republican's take back the Whitehouse they might have won this battle but have not won the war. Enjoy it while you can because in two year Hillary and Bubba will be running the country again.
Wow. Delusional. So every pundit left and right in the country is wrong to make this a big deal and you are right. Got it.

my biggest concern for the next two years is that the GOP will try to reverse all the gains made in the economy made in the last 5 years. i believe there reasoning will be the same as it has been, to make the Dem's look bad and use it to try and capture the Presidency. i'm sorry, this is what i believe has been happening and is the reason growth has been slower than it should have been. if this isn't their goal then the economy should begin to really take off because of GOP policies and bills they will now pass.
i guess we'll wait and see.
First of all if you think the stagnant economy has made real gains in the past 6 years I don't know where you are looking. Second of all, purely out of self-interest, the Republicans will need to pass bills. If Obama signs them and they become law and they "reverse the economic gains" then the Republicans will look bad. If he vetoes them then they won't look good or bad.

My hope is the end of the politics of dividing people by race, sex and class which is what the Demcrats have done in spades for the last 6 years. It clearly backfired this time.

And so sayith the mighty New Yorker who sits in his bastion of liberalism. How many conservatives were voted in, in your neck of the woods?
http://www.wgal.com/politics/no-more-white-southern-democrats-in-congress/29562158
A little talked about loss is significant for the south, the last white democrat was voted out last night. One of the major factors is the re-drawing of districts by republicans to make sure that another white house democrat will not be elected in the deep south in my life time.
So in the end Doug I hope you work hard in the years to come to oust all the white Democrats in your area and replace all of them with conservatives. Vote out your governor and your liberal representatives then they to can re-draw their districts to make sure that no white democrats are ever elected in your lifetime.
Frankly due to this I will more than likely work as hard as I can to turn this country over to 100% conservative rule. I will work very hard to keep all democrats at home for future elections. I want this country to live under Republican domination for decades to come and
pray that they roll back every inroads made in regards to women's rights, worker's rights, social security, public schools, etc. All tax money should go to fund middle eastern conflicts and defense contracts, the only handouts should be for the sainted corporations, Wall Street and banks. The people in this country have spoken, if they want a conservative country then I say all Democrats should give it to them and the first place we should start is New York City. To test your love for the republicans you should pick a small conservative southern town and pack up the family move on down here, truly you would love it. You would fit right in, well maybe....
I hope that every Democrat retires and no one runs in their place, I hope the Republicans are able to pass every bill they wise with no opposition, I hope that when the next war comes around every Republican will send their children to fight it (that will probably never happen) but one can hope.
The people that have spoken need to live in the Utopia that they yearn for, not for a few years but for decades, they deserve it.
Maybe they can be like Georgia and re-elect a Governor who presides and will continue to preside over the worst employment numbers in the country. All with a majority conservative house and senate, the whole country including New York should have them some of that good old conservative apple pie.

First of all, it is NOT 100% true. Second of all, stop blaming Reid for the failure of the Rs to find a way to bring legislation they believe in to a vote. If there were any real leaders among the Rs in the Senate, they would have found a way. A cynic might suggest that they let didn't fight hard enough because they knew the bills couldn't pass a full vote and would rather be able to blame Reid than face defeat. Good thing I'm not a cynic.

About 36% of eligible voters voted this week. That is hardly a mandate for or a rejection of anything except maybe both parties as 64% of the people stayed home.

The Clinton surplus had been declining rapidly in his last two years and his economy was heading into a recession.Obama has failed at every level of the responsibilities of a president yet the liberals bash President Bush with lies and rhetoric.
The American People have loudly rejected you.
Deal with it. Join the American citizens whom you hate and actually help America out of the damage Obama has done to the country.
The American people elected Obama twice. That fact eludes you as do most facts that don't align with your right wing email collection.
About 36% of eligible voters voted this week. That is hardly a mandate for or a rejection of anything except maybe both parties as 64% of the people stayed home.

Obama's policies have been rejected and Reid and the democrat's obstruction of the peoples business has been kicked to the curb.
Your rhetoric can't save obama's failures.
But you keep crying while we go about creating real jobs, getting the economy really going and making America respected again in the world.
We? What position were you elected to? Since even the conservatives on this site ignore you, I would say you are pretty much alone. Create jobs? For 6 years the GOP has been claiming to putting up an infrastructure and jobs bill. What is taking so long? I guess you conservatives are really not too swift.
So tell me, why did it take 6 years to "reject Obama's policies"? Are you conservatives that slow on the uptake? Don't answer, we read your posts and already know the answer.

He sure hasn't damaged my IRA's, or my healthcare (being able to cover my kids until 26)........ all my kids have jobs, and I was able to retire early from a very good job.... damn that Obama......
Sang,
Nice to read a real life story & with a positive attitude. Kudos & good luck to you & your family. Congrats!

America has sent a real life story and a positive message to obama and the democrats:
We reject you.Ha Ha.
But we elected you twice. Just to piss old Tom R. off. It worked.

Why?
Why on elections day was the majority, and therefore control of, The Senate take away from the democrats and givren to The Republicans?
Why were even more democrats kicked out of The House and their seats given to The Republicans?
Why were the Governorships of so many blues states taken away from democrats and given to The Republicans?
Why are both houses of Congress now controlled by The Republicans, 30 of the state Governors and the majority of state Legislatures Republican?
Why?

Who knows? After a few more posts maybe we can spin Tuesday into being a really fantastic day for the Democrats.

No, I am just pointing out to the clueless one that this major victory he is claiming isn't so major after all.
