http://www.collective-evolution.com/2015/11/03/19-year-old-instagram-model-admits-her-perfect-life-was-a-lie-exposes-the-ugly-truth-behind-social-media/

I think this is a very important post for anyone with teenage kids or grandchildren. This girl created a false image of herself through social media, then realized the plasticity of it all and completely let it all go. Important lesson for our social media obsessed youth to remember.

“I was addicted to what others thought of me, simply because it was so readily available,” she wrote. “I was severely addicted. I believed how many likes and followers I had correlated to how many people liked me. I didn’t even see it happening, but social media had become my sole identity. I didn’t even know what I was without it.”

Not only has she deleted her Tumblr account, but she plans to stop posting on YouTube as well. She has also deleted over 2,000 pictures from her Instagram account; she says they served no real purpose other than self-promotion.

She also went as far as to admit that her “hot body” shots were the results of unhealthy habits…"

facebook and all the other social media sites have allowed people a forum they never had and it gives them a feeling of control because you can say unfiltered what you want...a way of being that never really really had a place to exist....

Twitter, instgram ....etc all give the general person a place to go to basically either make up chit or vent or give them a feeling that people will follow them like they were celebrities...then step back and see the response....

I'm sure there are those who just use it to keep in contact with others, share pictures....etc but for a great % it's a place to make them feel empowered

I had a facebook account for about 2 weeks...It was like another job.....I simply don't want to spend that much time on my computer or phone...I have a few sites I go to and post and that's enough social media for me....places where people have common interests like here....

Someone started a thread on anything goes about Facebook recently, and as I and others said, "Facebook is what you make it". It can be healthy, and for me, it is. In fact, I've been in contact over the last 10 years or more with people that I knew as far back as high school and would NEVER have had ANY type of interaction with again otherwise. And since I'm 61, that's over 40 years ago. I think that's really cool. I have around 220 "friends" there, which is a very reasonable number compared to some; not sure I want it to be much bigger than that. I hear all about gigs I am interested in via posts by musicians that I'm Facebook friends with.

But I agree Ron, there is danger therein, and that's the reason I posted this article about the 19 year old girl. I have a niece who is Facebook obsessed. I've badgered her about it and so have my sister and brother-in-law, her parents. She's 26 years old for Christ's sake! And she's completely Facebook obsessed. Most of her posts are completely juvenile............selfies of her with her face all screwed up like she's in a horror film or something. It's not healthy. I mean, how many times can you see that without getting tired of it? The latest is that she quit her job as a barista and had to move back home. Her Mom told me that's what she does anytime the going gets tough in the real world.........she gives up. She's always got this false reality to go back to. It's really kinda sad.

I've been on FB for about for about 7 years and really get a kick out of it. I think the key to a lot of Social media is not being a slave to your phone....I almost feel sorry for those I see who seem absolutely helpless w/o their devices.... Me?... I use my phone for texting and calling, when I'm at work, it is in my car's trunk. When I'm on a date or out with friends, it is in the trunk...

I have my phone with me all the time.

Don't own a watch so it's good to know when lunch rolls around.

When I was a little kid before cell phones, I noticed where the sun was in the sky to tell me when it was lunch time, we also had some siren that went off everyday around 12 pm, but the sun moves with predictability. I also would notice when it was between 3-4 pm by the movement of the sun and would head home around then also. People do not have to be slaves to technology and at some point, we will be back in the stone age, when the pole reversal happens and our technology no longer works, or the grid goes down after we get nuked due to our feeble foreign policies, learn from nature, you never know when you will have to depend on that.
