A true - WTF ? - moment

This is really crazy, to me anyhow:
Hard for me to believe these profs are lecturing their politics, regardless of which point of view, honestly.
I went to a technical college myself, no liberal arts whatsoever, maybe that is partly why I can't understand this episode.
What happened to teaching subjects ? But it is a "Human Sexuality" class.
I pay for my kid to go to college, no squabbles on that, at all, but he is an Engineering student.
I think I'd have a big problem if I was paying for professors to lecture on their personal political viewpoints.

Don't talk politics, religion or money............ in a sexuality class!
I'm left wondering what importance a human sexuality class might have, but you know we have to be "well rounded". I'm more of a tech and trade school person myself if that fits somebody's needs. I spent some time at a 4 year university and the requirement to take unrelated elective classes just seemed like a way for the school to get more money than it was really benefiting me.

Joke all you want about a Human Sexuality class, but it's a pretty big and pertinent topic - the history of, different cultures, development of, etc. I'm sure anyone who has gone into everything from psychiatry to marketing has benefited from a Human Sexuality class.
But this professor was way out of line, totally off the rails. As someone who has attended and taught at the college level, you always have to be mindful of your audience, their possible beliefs, and stay on topic. The classroom is the perfect place for an open discussion pertinent to the course, but not a stern political lecture. I'm a little surprised the student was sanctioned, typically schools come to their students' defense first, but I imagine it was the act of filming someone without their permission that the school is taking issue with.

Politics must come up a lot in a Human Sexuality class. Something came up and set the professor off. Maybe someone asked if it was ok to ogle women now that Trump is in and PC is out. Or why those harlots at the womens' march were dressed up like vaginas. Or maybe contraception law came up - point is it is impossible to discuss sexuality without politics.
So it isn't some totally unrelated thing, the prof just busting into a random rant, as it is being spun.
Profs fly off the handle sometimes. It is frustrating to be an academic during the Great American Dumbdown. Back in the Reagan Era, when the Dumbdown was starting, Creationism was creeping into schools, I saw a similar thing occur in my Geology class. The professor was discussing plate tectonics and a student challenged him, saying that Geology contradicts the Bible. Professor went apeshit.
It's true, we don't know the full context. And those decrying universities as Politically Correct ivory towers can't complain about the prof speaking her mind, you can't have it both ways. But it should still be an open discussion, the professor's political views shouldn't be related to students as fact.

Thank You and exactly.
