Uhhh, Stevie - Fleetwood Mac Was Around Before You showed Up!

https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/04/entertainment/stevie-nicks-christine-mcvie/index.html
Stevie Nicks opines (decides) that Fleetwood Mac should forever park the tour bus after the death of bandmate, Christine Perfect.
I actually get it. Probably time for all of the acts of the late 60's and early 70's to start shopping around for retirement communities. I get it.
And while I never bought into post Bare Trees Mac(s), I am the first to point out that every incarnation of the band had its merits.
I liked the idea of Mike Campbell (Tom Petty) and Neil Finn (Crowded House) coming on board, but I never really heard anything from that line-up.
Here's an idea: Suppose Jeremy Spencer and Dave Mason (a former Mac-er) hooked up with Mick and John and did a very brief reincarnation of the bluesy Fleetwood Mac before retiring the name for good?
Just a dream on my behalf. Carry on.

I like that idea too. The bluesy Fleetwood Mac days.
The band decided they wanted Linsey Buckingham on guitar, some vocals and song writing but Linsey wouldn't do it unless Stevie Nicks came with him. It was a package deal.
It wasn't long Stevie and Christine shifted Fleetwood Mac to a girl pop rock band. Commercially it was a tremendous success. Rumors sold 30 million copies and young women bought 2/3 of albums sold and Fleetwood Mac became a super group along side bands such as The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Guns N' Roses.
Also I think Mike Campbell and Neil Finn are fine guitar players and writers.
If Stevie is done fine. The girl band is likely over anyway so moving back to the bluesy days of Mick Fleetwood is something I would support.
But I read Mick Fleetwood said they are probably done but his has thought that before.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. I had a ticket for Jeremy Spencer at a blues club in Santa Cruz, CA called Moe's Alley, must have been around 2015. The show was cancelled. Why? Because some anti-pedophilia group protested Jeremy Spencer being allowed to tour in the U.S. and they put a complete stop to the tour. I did not know about Spencer's background, and if I had, I would never have bought a ticket. I am very happy that this group was able to stop the tour. If you research Jeremy Spencer you will find that he was affiliated with The Children Of God, which advocates for sex with children. According to Wikipedia, Spencer is still active with that group. Also, check out this link, which details the above-mentioned tour cancellation:

@robslob Wow! I didn't know about this. I only suggested Spencer because he's one of the last guitarists associated with Fleetwood Mac who is still drawing a breath. Maybe they could regroup with Eric Clapton, Coco Montoya, Mick Taylor - someone with the Mayall ties?
Not to rip on anybody, but I'd love for Fleetwood Mac to be remembered in history as one of the early anglo-blues greats rather than as a major pop band. Not like J. Giles, who will (sadly, in my mind) be forever associated with "Centerfold".
Pipe dream. I'll step away from the pipe now.

Pass it my way tho Rusty, that’s good stuff - imho tribute bands of musicians who know & love forward & backward those early albums, might be the closest we get nowadays to what you mention - bands have to have crack players to do this music justice
….a sort of specifically-billed “Tea With The Mac” (4 xmpl) show based on the live FMac Tea Party album - I would love to see that! (who wouldn’t)
have been on a live-music kick - this one, Leon Live, Live Dates, Atlanta Pop, the Bangladesh one, the 2 LP Woodstock release (the 2nd one)
Fillmore & Peach are their own list, in a niche/pantheon of theirs-only
agree about J Geils too, their 2nd one, The Morning After, is precious for many reasons - It Ain’t What You Do (It’s How You Do It) - not another song like it!😁🎼👂🎶✌️

I wonder how the connection or thought process of bringing Neil Finn into the band came about? That seemed to totally out of l left field for me. I am not a FM expert and know less about Neil Finn, very little. But I just did not see how he would be on they're radar. No offense to him.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

@jszfunk My guess would be for his song writing skills. He is one of my favorite songsmiths of all time! Great singer and pretty good guitarist, too. I was as surprised as anybody to hear his and Mike Campbell's name mentioned. I was equally as shocked when Buckingham-Nicks were announced as Fleetwood Mac members. It was like the JFK assassination and Neil Armstrong walking on the moon in that I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news.

Read last night Rumors by Fleetwood Mac has now been on the Billboard album chart for 550 weeks and joins the 550 club.
The leader is Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd at 946 weeks.
I can't remember how long Brothers and Sisters was on the chart, but it was number one for 5 weeks in 1973. Only number one, believe it or not, the Allman Brothers Band ever had.
The ABB just didn't sell albums at the pace the super groups did but they out sold all the bands connected to the ABB such as Gov't Mule and Cowboy.

Who cares about ABB sales numbers in relation to this thread's topic?
Mike Campbell was a GREAT choice for Fleetwood Mac.
With Petty, he had been tearing up Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well" for years.
He also was simpatico with Stevie from when she'd done "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" and "Insider" and other tunes with the Heartbreakers.
He's the perfect blend; he has an incredible sense of economy and tone and mood, which was true of Peter Green but also Bob Welch and also Lindsey Buckingham.
Neil Finn has/ had a good voice for Buckingham songs.
