Finally, SRV has been nominated! He's the first to get my vote. But where is Double Trouble?? 😮

Lou Reed, Paul Butterfield, Sting are other favorites of mine. Joan Jett good too!!

Chic has been nominated again. Will Nile Rogers and friends get passed over AGAIN?
Perhaps they should finally see the light!

Not a fan of NWA, Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Smiths but to each his own I suppose. Grin

Finally Stevie Ray is on the ballot, hopefully he gets in the first year.

My votes would go to

SRV
Butterfield
Bill Withers

Well, this is about as solid a menu as we've seen in a long time. Most of 'em even play "rock and roll"! 😉
Glad to see Bill Withers in there! He's one of my favorite song writers of any genre, ever!

Hmmmm. Interesting.

I'll go with my usual "Jann Wenner's Preferred Because Rolling Stone Magazine IS Modern Music" prediction of front runners:

Lou Reed
NWA
Green Day
SRV
Sting

That's giving Rolling Stone too much credit for actually covering music anymore.

Remind me again how many artists get inducted each year? 4 or 5? Keeping in mind that Rolling Stone, er... HoF, have to spread out blockbuster names, these might not all get in the same year. But my guesses would be:

SRV
Lou Reed
Joan Jett & Blackhearts
Sting

And then I'll throw Bill Withers in there as a cinderella surprise (to put it in NCAA basketball tourney language)

On the bright side, this could be a good kick in the pants for blues that SRV provided when he broke big in the late 80s/1990.

I predict

SRV (I agree, where is Double Trouble?)
Lou Reed
NWA
The Smiths

not sure about which of the others makes the top 5. I suspect Green Day gets in but maybe not this year.

I am surprised it's not SRV & Double Trouble. They were as much of a band as Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

I'll go with my usual: "You all complain because YOUR band didn't get it, but can't do any better" prediction:

Lou (he is the most talented of the bunch)
SRV (He does deserve it)
Joan Jett (they don't have enough women in the hall, so they will go for it)
Bill Withers (Because)
Sting (because they always induct someone who doesn't deserve it!)

I continue to marvel at the refusal to nominate a band as important and major as Jethro Tull while nominating small pissant groups over and over again.

Okay, I had to Google NWA because I thought it had something to do with wrestling (rasslin). Seems to be one of those urban-hippity-hop things. Doesn't seem to have much to do with "Rock and Roll", but the way these things go they just might be a shoe-in.

Joan Jett? Man, I don't even want to get started here. Rolling SHlt Mag went and voted her one of the top 100 guitar players (ignoring a guy named Chet altogether). That she is still "active" should be enough to keep her (and others) out - but what the hell do I know?

Lou Reed? Hey! He's deceased! And he was a Jan Wenner favorite. Never was my cup, but he's probably a lock.

Green Day and Nine Inch Nails- again, still alive and well (I guess?). I guess the alive and active thing doesn't mean much here. I think in sports HOF's, you have to be retired for a certain period. But if Jan wants 'em ...

Sting. If they let him in can they at least lock the door and plywood the windows?

Stevie Ray - should be automatic. A real no-brainer would include Double Trouble.

The Smiths. Johnny Marr is a great guitarist and I hear Morrisey has cancer. Could be a real feel-good moment.

The Spinners and Chic were "R&B" (ain't got rhythm - sure as hell ain't the blues), but they sold gazillions of records. Is this about sales, popularity or contribution to the world of music?

Kraftwerk? Well, this is about as close to "Prog" as anybody I've ever seen nominated.

I'd like to see WAR get in there along with Bill Withers. 1970's AM radio music that didn't suck!

We go through this every year. It's redundant, but it sure is fun!

The fact that Deep Purple is not in the HoF already shows what a joke that institution is.

I listened to Lou Reed's "Rock and Roll Animal" yesterday. He should have been in long ago.

Still no Moody Blues?

Guarantee NWA gets in. Hard-pressed to think of a more influential rap/hip-hop group along with Run-DMC (who are already in, along with Grandmaster Flash). NWA is the next logical choice, and getting Dr. Dre and Ice Cube up on stage together will create a lotta hype.

"Rock n roll" or not...that argument is pretty much pointless by now.

Kraftwerk - also extremely innovative, groundbreaking and influential. Don't see them getting in, though.

I might be the biggest Lou fan on this board but why does anyone need to be in more than once? He is already in as a member of the Velvet Underground. Sting is in for the Police which I guess I can live with but his solo career is certainly not deserving of the honor. Just kind of stupid.

SRV is a no brainier to me. I also would vote for War and Bill Withers. I am on the fence about Joan Jett but her work with the Runaways, who I saw live, gives her the nod. They were a vastly underrated band.

maybe your alittle older so i will give you a pass, but NWA is one of the best hip hop rap groups of all time, im extremely happy they are nominated, and im shocked they didn't get in already, they absolutely deserve it.

Agreed, Sting has not had the influence solo that he did with The Police. And if the stories are true he was a complete asshole with The Police breakup

Agree and disagree. Someone like Springsteen, he's been with a band for almost his whole career, and he shouldn't be in twice (tho I think he is) while someone like Lou, who made a name for himself with the Velvets also made a (probably bigger) name as a solo artist. And as I said early, agree that Sting is not deserving. Oh, and I disagree: I'm possibly a bigger Lou fan on this board 🙂

A HOF should be about the elite.

Aside from SRV and maybe Lou, none of the others are deserving. They may be good at what they do but not elite. Some border on one hit wonders.

Just let everyone in.

Springsteen is only in once. The E Street Band were put in last year in the "sidemen" category. It's the same thing that got Leon Russell and Spooner Oldham in the hall in recent years.

Did Deep Purple drop off the list? They almost made it last year didn't they?

Also, a huge omission as far as I'm concerned is Warren Zevon. Just as important as Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne.

Also, what about Waddy Wachtel as a HOF sideman. The work he did with Zevon, Ronstadt and Stevie Nicks, he made their sound. He also played with Keith Richards as one of the Barbarians.

I echo your suggestion of Warren Zevon! Waddy as a sideman, also. FYI - with Keef, Waddy was an Expensive Wino. I think the New Barbarians were Ron Woods' band (Richards was involved) - was Waddy in that also?
