Beginning Saturday (Oct. 15), Austin City Limits, the long-running acclaimed PBS music program, will air a concert by Robert Plant. You can watch the trailer, in which he sings Led Zeppelin‘s “Whole Lotta Love,” above.

Plant performed the show with the Sensational Space Shifters, the backing band with whom he recorded 2014’s lullaby and … The Ceaseless Roar. He recorded it back in March and, of the 13 songs they delivered that night, eight made the final cut. According to the page for the episode on Austin City Limits’ website, they played three songs from lullaby, “Rainbow,” “Turn It Up” and the traditional folk song, “Little Maggie.” Another, “In the Mood,” came from 1983’s The Principle of Moments. The other four songs — “Whole Lotta Love,” “The Lemon Song,” “Black Dog” and “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You” are from his Led Zeppelin days.

During the taping, Plant, who resides in Austin, spoke about how the city’s famously diverse musical culture inspired lullaby. “There are no walls in this musical world … everybody had a side trip here and there, me mostly here,” he said from the stage, calling the record a “reflection of all the things we traverse and move through. … When I came to live here, I saw a different picture, a bunch of colors.”

Austin City Limits began its 42nd season two weeks ago with a concert by Paul Simon. Plant had appeared on the show once before, in Season 28. To find out when the episode will be airing on the PBS station near you, visit Austin City Limits’ website.

You are more than welcome. I kinda heard about it awhile back and forgot about it till I got an email notice. Should be real good. We caught him on that tour about a year ago, and man,he can bring it and so can that band.

Now only if someone can light a fire under Jimmy's rear end!! 😉

Will definitely check this out. Saw him and this band when they last came through NYC and it was great! He put together a very talented band and did some cool arrangements with the classic Zep tunes that all worked.

Definitely enjoyed show last night. I have not kept up on Plant's music at all, so was open mind and no idea of what to expect. I know some want Zep again, but I really enjoyed his new creativity. I was surprised at his voice, it was stiff very good. In the interview stuff, he is an interesting and dignified fellow. Show gave me a desire to see him. Really liked the organic folk instruments used at times. AAAAA+++++

He was in town here (Chicago) a few weeks ago. There was a benefit for something with Steve Earle, Patty Griffin and a few others. Robert Plant was the special guest. I really wanted to go but it was too expensive. I hadn't seen him in about 25 years.

I love that Plant knows how to use the voice he has, to his advantage. It's rough when Gillan, Coverdale, or David Lee Roth tries to hit those 1970s high notes.

DVR'd Saturday and watched it tonight. Could not have been more impressed. LOVED the arrangements of the Zep tunes, he kept them fresh and interesting.............and you can thank his tremendously talented band for that. All the non-Zep stuff was very good as well. I am not surprised, I caught him once in 2010 and was really mesmerized by the show.
