RIP Senator John McCain
I just seen this news.
Great man. Great loss.
I live in the Red Rock country of Northern Arizona, Sedona. The Senator lived about 10 miles from here as the crow flies in a little town called Cornville, where there is a little restaurant called "Up the creek" that he and his family often frequented. About 6 months ago, my girlfriend and I met another couple there for a wine tasting and some apps and about 15 minutes in, there was a buzz in the bar that the Senator and his daughter were dining over in the corner of this little bistro. So, about an hour passes and The McCain family group rises and begins to make their way to the door. Well, my father was in the Air Force (Korea) and would have rolled over in his grave had I not approached the gentleman and thanked him for his service. So I excuse myself from the bar and walk over and extend my hand and greet him with a firm grip and a simple "Thank You for all you've done for this country" he looked up and released his grip from his walker, smiled, returned my handshake and replied "You are welcome". Satisfied, I made my way back to my bar-stool as the bartender stepped out from behind the bar and started to clap his hands, within seconds, the whole place was on their feet and applauding as Senator McCain waived and continued to the door. The ovation lasted 'til he was out the door, I can't even begin to tell you all about the feeling that overcame me in that moment. A true Hero being shown love and respect, something I will never forget.
R.I.P Sir
BIGV, well done. I knew I always liked you after you turned me on to that Carmenere
.
In 1967, after McCain’s bomber was hit, the then-Navy pilot ejected himself and was captured by North Vietnamese combatants. McCain was imprisoned for five years, underwent torture and refused to be released early unless every man captured before him was also set free.
The effects of the injuries from his ejection, torture and inadequate medical treatment left him permanently incapable of raising either arm above his shoulders.
RIP Senator McCain, a true War Hero. As Vince told you, Thank You for your service.

Great anecdote BigV, and well done - I am sure that touched John McCain and his family.
Longtime Arizona resident here, I voted for McCain, without hesitation.
The only Arizona politician I ever saw who openly supported and took a personal interest in the huge Native American population of the state.
As much as I hate to politicize this post . ...
Nothing at all wrong with politicizing the passing of a politician. As McCain lived and breathed politics, he died in harness an active, relevant politician. I am certain he would not want his hard-fought battles to be buried and forgotten under a heap of rosy sentiment. This McCain quote, a parting shot from the man:
. . .To fear the world we have organized and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain 'the last best hope of earth' for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.

He was a good man.
My sincere best to his family & friends.
Now it would be nice if someone in DC admitted term limits are needed badly.
Just saw an aerial view of D.C. and all flags at half mast except the one over the White House. Pathetic.

That’s the new RNC. With trump or hated. War service and fatal disease be damned.
Reminds me of Abraham Lincoln.
And the Civil War.
I'll have plenty more to say after the burial.
But for now I'll stay respectful.
And thank John McCain and all those who served.
Including those who went MIA and never returned home from Korea and Vietnam.
Never Forget.
a Great Man
a Great American
RIP
Nice tribute Vince
