Okay, rock is not the dominant form of music anymore but the lack of good new releases is depressing.  There is little $$$ in records, it is now all about the tours, but I figured a bunch on pent up artists would release some really good new music since they couldn't tour the last 18 months.  Blackberry Smoke and Allman Betts had 2 good releases but not much else.  Jason Isbell's last two albums have been just 'ok' and even Strugil Simpson basically covered his own tunes in bluegrass style.

I've been deep diving into Spotify more and more.  Am I missing any standouts or is the well just going dry?

agreed

there is no good FM radio anymore so it's hard to get exposed to new tunes. Sometime's I'll let Spotify radio go but not much strikes me. Maybe I'm just old and set in my ways.

Not sure if it's considered new anymore, but Billy Strings Home is great. The infamous Stringdusters have a new one coming out soon.

I hate to agree , but it seems like all you see are box sets from bands who been around since dirt. Don't get me wrong, but I'd like to see a little more energy from thee groups.

Plus most of us own the originals already and all the record companies are doing is re-packaging everything. Great point about BlackBerry Smoke and The Allman Betts Band. They are two great bands who keep rolling right along.

Not sure where the music business is heading these days, but I hope it finds a way to get back in the game and turn out some new players who can appeal to folks like me who are looking to hear the next best thing in music...

I’m not trying to toot my own horn TOO loudly, but I put an album out back in March. It’s called SWANSONGS and a lot of it is very much in the Allmans/Mule/Black Crowes style of rootsy southern blues and country funk soul tjat so many of us here seem to love. Below is the link to the album itself, and then a few of the “singles” pulled from it. I hope you dig!

The album is actually a collection four separate EP’s: Illconceived, Improvident, Ignoble & Inglorious. The four EPs tell the story of a disgraced street preacher, making his final sermon before drifting off someplace to die. Each of the songs is one of his sermons. The album is 79 mins and full of long jams, slide guitar and gospel choir vocals. I’d love to hear any and all feedback so lay it on me. Smile

"interesting"....can be subjective. I think we will see in the next year or so the product of the artists who had quite some time on therit hands. Things are just opening up.

I will say that, while it is backwards-looking, I recently got that Peter Green tribute CD set and have been enjoying the heck out of it!!!!

For newer stuff, I got a CD by an African guitarist named Mdou Moctar that had gotten some really good reviews, and I find it interesting. Check this video clip out; it's raw, but the guy can play:

I honestly have to switch genres completely to find new interesting stuff, whether its jazz, bluegrass, fusion, or world music.  The best albums more guitar-based I've heard in the last couple years tend to come from session guys and hired guns' solo albums, and not so much bands (meaning a group with a band name). Jack's new live album for instance is pretty rocking. A lot of the rock "bands" releasing albums recently come off a little shallow, but that's just my opinion.
