@bigv: I find your comments to be myopic and puzzling, Vince. Sure, us hard core fans will know most of what's being presented here. I'll buy it anyway and from the reviews so far, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. But that's not the point. There's hundreds of thousands of 10 or 12 year old kids who have no idea who Gregg Allman was. There's just as many who have no idea who Ray Charles was, or Michael Jackson, or Johnny Cash, or Elvis Presley. Now all they have to do is watch a movie, and they'll have a good synopsis of that person's personal life, and their huge contributions to the world of music. But apparently you think that Gregg Allman's life/career is not worthy of that documentation. I heartily disagree. And fortunately for the world, some Production company, Producer and Director disagreed as well. I thank my lucky stars that they did.

How could I wait? Besides, it's The 4th Of July. What a great way to celebrate! I just bought it and watched it all the way through (1 hour 35 minutes). I thought it was just tremendous, as all the reviews here have stated. A great documentation of Gregg's life and career. It was worth the $20. My hat is off to Producer/Director James Keach. One of my favorite quotes from the film:
Jonny Podell, ABB booking agent in the early days: "Phil Walden told me, 'Look, you skinny little Mother******, I've got ALL of my money in this band, and it's BLOOD money. I want them working 300 days a year!!"
And of course, they DID. According to Gregg, in 1970 they did 306 shows. And you have to remember that those 306 shows were spread ALL over the United States. With 10 guys (6 band members, 3 roadies, one tour Manager) and all of their equipment crammed into two Econoline vans. Just complete insanity. It's not in the film, but I remember roadie Red Dog saying once, "I can't imagine that scene without drugs." Yeah, I get it. HOW else do you do that? But that kind of constant touring, combined with the release of the Fillmore East record, is what got The Allman Brothers Band off the ground.

Most likely. Often when a movie is still in theaters it becomes available for purchase on home media for $20 for people who can't wait to see it. Typically a movie becomes available to rent on Amazon for ~ $3.99 a few weeks after it bows out of theaters. Keach's Glenn Campbell doc is available for $3.99 and his Linda Rondstadt doc is free with Prime.
I'm going to be patient and wait.
