TYA doing Sweet 16 is a good one.

The Dead doing 'Promised Land' was always a favorite of mine.

I really like Seger doing 'Let it Rock' on Live Bullet as well.

Love those two Berry tunes on Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out.........no one could do Chuck like The Stones.

But Jimi's version of Johnny B. Goode @ Berkeley may be the topper of them all:

Haha of course yeah Jimi kills it. Somehow Jimi puts the lid on most music topics. I should have titled the thread "Great Covers of Chuck Berry as done by mortals"

Nebish here is a sweet Promised Land, Dead 72, Springfield Creamery Benefit, Veneta Oregon hard by Eugene

Night of the Guitar - Live
10 electric guitarists, Leslie West & Alvin Lee among them, play the Johnny B Goode riff during a R&R medley on this late-80s record

one of fave all-time covers, Mountain's Roll Over Beethoven -- Mr. West had some kinda tone alright

You guys beat me to it. As Bob Dylan said when asked about "Watchtower" many years ago he uttered something to the effect "You need to ask Mr. Hendrix; that's his song now."

I saw the Dead at Dillon Statdum (with the ABB - Berry and Dickey sat in a few numbers) in 1972. The Dead closed with a pretty good JBG; but yes it was only in the mortal category.

Good ones -- the list could go on anon -- the Beach Boys had a semi-'hit' in mid-1970s w/their version of Rock & Roll Music -- was on the radio quite a bit IIRC

of course the Beatles also covered R&R Music on Beatles '65 -- their version of Roll Over Beethoven that kick-starts the daylights out of The Beatles Second Album, is 2nd to none

the way ELO merged Beethoven's Fifth with screaming electric guitar intro to their own take of ROBeethoven, was super cool -- from Beethoven to Berry, just like that

there's countless others -- NRPS's version of School Days, from their Home Home On The Road album, j-u-m-p-s
a cool cover of 30 Days can be found on Johnny Winter's Saints & Sinners album -- Lonnie Mack's excellent mid-1960s take of Memphis Tennessee .......

I love the Rick Derringer-led White Trash version of Living in the USA! Linda Rondstandt did that one pretty well, too!

Here's another treat:

(I don't tell artists or titles because I love to imagine the looks on your faces when you open your "presents"! 😉 )
