i guess it is a bit of a taste thing given these comments, but I always enjoyed when he sat in with the ABB at The Beacon shows. Not sure what a whole concert would be like, but jamming with the band like on Southbound from 032409 is fine with me!

I remember at one of the beacon shows, popper came out for 2 songs and when he was leaving the stage dickey garbed him by the back of his shirt and made him stay on stage for 3 more songs including In memory of Elizabeth reed. It was just great. I'll see if I can find the date and post it, it's a must have.

Probably 3/24/2001.

Yes it is because of work that I have seen them so many times. I wouldn't pay to see anyone that often. And for the record, I do not dislike them nor do I think Popper has no talent. He just goes on and on.

As for the band, sure they get paid but is your sanity worth the money? You get a dozen long harmonica solos for every guitar solo. Kinchla is a great guitarist who has been there since the beginning. Share the spotlight a little. It would be like Derek backing Warren all night and getting one solo. Mix it up a bit.

Your DiMeola comparison is perhaps a bit off as Al really does vary and slows down on occasion. I would use someone like Yngwie Malmsteen and I would agree completely. Amazing talent but after a few songs it all sounds the same.

The funny part is that you keep defending and yet have never seen them.

😉

I never said that I can't stand them. Allmanfan enjoyed it which is great. He also doesn't know the music and it was his first time. Popper is extremely good and everyone takes notice the first time same as a player like Van Halen. After a while, it loses some effect as the difference is speed.

But to each their own, I would never tell anyone not to go. As you can see from the posts, I am not alone with feeling that he over plays.

They owe it all to David Letterman as he let Popper sit in with the band when they were unknown and the exposure really helped.

Now you're losing all credibility James. It's right there in my first post that I saw Blues Traveler at Horde 1994. And that I also saw Popper just this year as part of Brothers Keeper, and most of your criticism is directed at Popper more than anyone else in BT. If you have to make up lies to defend yourself, you're really grasping at straws.

Rob - You need to roll a fatty Brother. Getting pretty intense about whether or not I like Popper, don't you think?

I thought that you mentioned that you had not seen them. Excuse me for not riding on every word you write. But it is hardly making a lie to prove a point. What point do I need to prove? That I (and many others) believe that Popper over plays. My opinion and many others too but just an opinion. It doesn't mean that you can no longer enjoy.

I said that I enjoy early BT and that they have some great songs. Having seen them often, I don't need you or anyone else to tell me about Popper's soloing. Would have a hard time thinking anyone would debate it. Grasp at straws? Why would I do that? I am critical of Popper for that reason and it is also why they used to headline major venues and don't anymore. The impact of the harmonica wore off.

For a guy that has not seen them in 20 years (is that correct?), you sure defend them like the leader of the fan club. Which is fine if that floats your boat but does not convince me of your love for the man and the band. Even that show was a festival so did you really go to see them?

If my opinion is still rocking your boat then I am sorry and will tell you that Popper should solo all night if that improves your mood.

This may take two fatties to accomplish. 😉 I have that effect on people.

You act like I'm all bent out of shape over the subject James...........well only when someone says things that are not true. If you're going to argue on an internet website, at least take the time to read someone's posts and what they actually said. And apparently you missed this comment by me........actually I'm sure you didn't miss it, you purposely chose to leave it out:

Hey, different strokes for different folks. You can't stand Blues Traveler. Allmanfan21 LOVED them, and after the Brothers Keeper show I saw in January, I suspect I would love BT as well. It's probably best we let it drop right there.

The smoke is good here............grew it all myself.............I didn't need you to suggest I twist one up.

Actually that quote is what made me think that you never saw them. The "I suspect I would love BT as well'" part made it sound like you never saw them.

You act like I'm all bent out of shape over the subject James...........well only when someone says things that are not true.

So you are bent out of shape?

If you get this upset about someone not liking BT even when you haven't gone for over 20 years then you have too much time on your hands. Didn't mean to piss you off. Perhaps I should have suggested laying off the bud for a night.

I love Popper and hope he solos all night. Better now?

Apparently, this is one band that elicits strong feelings one way or another. I personally hold them in pretty high esteem since the HORDE tours pretty much created the jam band scene that so many of us love. We used to follow them, but when Bobby Sheehan died, they weren't the same. Either way, they have my respect for what they contributed to the jam band scene. Oh, and John Popper is an awesome harmonica player.
