Check out Duane's long hair. And zoom in on Butch's face and tell me you don't see a little bit of Derek.

Maybe that is Red Dog, not Duane? Seems like these pictures at the James Arness Ranch were from 1972. Help?

Definitely Red Dog and not Duane. I think you have the location and the year right.

From Craig Olesky's IG @oleskycraig

Here's Butch Trucks, Berry Oakley and Joseph 'Red Dog' Campbell enjoying a little downtime at the James Arness ranch. Gregg Allman was dating the 'Gunsmoke' star's daughter Jenny Lee Arness at the time. The Allman Brothers Band had just finished dates on the west coast leg of the Eat A Peach tour including two nights at Bill Graham's Winterland Ballroom, along with concerts in Long Beach, Sacramento and San Diego before heading to shows in Colorado. Simi Valley, CA. March 1972.

Here is part of a summer 1972 show. I saw them in January 1972 in North Carolina and it was similar. Lots of Berry Oakley in the mix, Gregg playing where Duane often played and Dickey playing real nice.

Berry Oakley dripped that classic Allman Brothers sound. After Berry left as far as I'm concerned the band never again had that swing and sound and I saw all the later lineups. Also I think Berry Oakley was the best bass player the Allman Brothers had. He had something the others as good as several were didn't have.
