Bands You Have Seen Opening For an Allmans Show

I went through some of my stuff, jogged my memory, looked at ticket stubs and checked the shows section here (thanks Lana & Rowland) and I came up with a list of bands I have seen open for the ABB. I doubt this is exhaustive as I'm sure I am forgetting someone. And a couple are stretches as they did a co-headlining thing but here is what I came up with in no particular order.
Sister Hazel
Charles & Ruth Brown
Susan T
Robert Randolph
Ratdog
Albert Collins (only time I got to see him and he passed shortly thereafter)
Steve Earle
God Street Wine (I don't even remember them)
LeeRoy Parnell
Lucinda Williams
Johnny "Yard Dog" Jones & Eastside Slim (You have have to be from Detroit to know who they were)
Karl Denson
Skynyrd
String Cheese Incident
JJ Grey & MoFro (JJ sat in with The Brothers)
Drive By Truckers
Gov't Mule
dTb
Oteil & the Peacemakers
Scott Boyer & Tommy Talton
The Kinsey Report Featuring Big Daddy Kinsey
Hot Tuna
Little Feat
Galactic
Phil Lesh
Widespread Panic
Again, I know there were some others. I didn't include any side stages.
Anyone else? I imagine people have seen others open for them.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

The first that comes to mind is the great Muddy Waters. 1974 or 1975 Roosevelt Stadium Jersey City.

Gary U.S.Bonds ( Poplar Creek )
Molly Hatchett
The Radiators
Henry Paul Band
Lucinda Williams
Robert Randolph and the Family band
Karl Denson and Tiny Universe
George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers
several more , but drawing a blank right now...

Blues Band from UK, 1980-09-15 in Germany (see photos here https://allmanbrothersband.com/event/abb19800915/). There is one photo with the singer and harp player of the Blues Band, Paul Jones, sitting in with the ABB.
Grace Potter in Wantagh, Jones Beach, 2013-09-07 (I was luckily on a business trip in the USA).

The Charlie Daniels Band
shared bills with the Grateful Dead

Good topic.
A lot of the ones mentioned I have seen .
Not to be negative , not that they were bad, but I saw God Street Wine open for them. Not sure how they got that gig, and did not get the appeal. When I go to shows, I am always there for the opener. I know some folks bypass that time slot. I would have skipped out on them if I would have known better.
I cant say I really ever saw a "bad" opening act. This is kinda off topic but I went and saw Mellencamp a few summer's ago at the Illinois State Fair. It was on his Sad Clowns and Hillbillies Tour. He had Carlene Carter open up for him and she also joined his show for a few of their tunes they did for that said above release. I do not know much about her music career , but I do know who her mom and step dad are.
It was only her on the stage either playing the guitar or piano. Did not know any of the music. I thought she sounded good and the material was good too. I like the fact she did not have a band and doing it all herself. What brings me to this little rant was the crowd. I dont think I have ever been to a show where I heard so much chatter and talk around me during the opening slot. We were about maybe 10-15 yards off the stage. Made it kinda hard to hear at times and it was distracting. Still gets me irked till this day. Totally disrespectful to the artist and the people around who may want to hear here. Booze I am sure was fueling part of it. If you have no interest, dont ruin it for other folks and show some decency to the performer. Now get off my lawn you kids!!!!
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Only ones I actually remember seeing were Little Feat at my first show in 91 and Umphrey's McGee in 2004 / 05 ???
Surprised I can't recall more as I've seen 30-40 shows so I'm sure I'm missing some
Umphrey's stood out because I knew alot of those guys from college. Good dudes. They would practice in our basement off campus and played a few of our parties.
Seeing them open for my favorite band was very surreal!

@robertdee Twiggs and Reddog where a part of the Almost Brothers. Saw portions of their sets a few times.

I'll undoubtedly miss some:
Alex Taylor Friends & Neighbors
Grinderswitch
The Outlaws
Chris Isaac
DTB
Rusted Root
Co-headliners with Z Z Top
Oteil & The Peacemakers
Jackie Greene
Yonder Mountain String Band
Susan Tedeschi Band
Ratdog
Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers
Karl Denson's Tiny Universe
Chris Robinson & New Earth Mud
String Cheese Incident
"My friends say I'm ugly I got a masculine face." Tom Waits

Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise
Mark May and the Agitators
Ronnie Earl
Pat McGee (still not sure who this is)

Posted by: @robertdee@50split I saw all those and many more. Almost Brothers opened for the ABB several times in the mid 1970's.
Weren't they some of the ABB roadies? Been a long time but I seem to remember that.
have their cd and it is GOOD.

That was a band that I REALLY liked. I thought the had some potential to do some things and have some staying power. It kinda fizzled after they're 2nd studio release. It was solid but not as good as the 1st self titled. Not a bad track on that one,IMHO , and still one of my favorites.

Not a Wet Willie in sight? My first show - the ABB with Jimmy Hall and Company. I've seen the ABB more times than I can remember - not sure of all the opening bands that I ever saw but I never saw an opening act more memorable than those Mobile home boys!

Elvin Bishop at the Omni in Atlanta October of 1975
Also saw Stevie Ray Vaughn open for Gregg Allman in Atlanta sometime in the 80s. I'd never heard of him before. I'm pretty certain that Gregg was opening for him in other cities soon after.

Hollywood Bowl 1972--Special guest Kenny Loggins Band with Jim Messina
Introducing Mark Volman/Howard Kaylan (formerly of The Turtles) “The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie"
The Forum, LA 1973--The Marshall Tucker Band
Boz Scaggs (with Les Dudek on lead guitar)
Concord Pavilion CA 1990’s--Chris Isaac
Concord Pavilion CA 1990’s--Little Feat

I left out
Elvin
Leon Russell
Melvin Taylor
Moe
"My friends say I'm ugly I got a masculine face." Tom Waits

Grinderswitch
Marshall Tucker
Ratdog
Widespread Panic

Some goods ones on here that I forgot about. I think coot and I saw Jaclie Greene & Yonder Mountain. Rusted Root I have seen with The ABB.
New Earth Mud. I loved that band. Never saw them with ABB but I saw them two nights open for Mule.
The SRV opening for Greggg is interesting. I have a show somewhere from probably, 87,88, something like that. I only have the Gregg part but it is pretty good.
Henry Paul is interesting. I saw The Outlaws several years ago at The House of Blues in Chicago. I think it was the original band. Hughie was with them as he had left Skynyrd. They were awesome. Couldn't have been 400 or 500 people there.
Robert Bradley is another one. He is from Detroit and the first time I ever saw Mule was at this small place, The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. Robert was there, really lubed up. His whole band was there and his band mates told him someone was there to meet him. Since he is blind we shook hands at all of that but he didn't know who I was. He said they or maybe just him were going to sit in with Mule. It was a weeknight so I couldn't stick around for the end of it. I know he opened for some Mule shows.
Oh, that was also the first time I saw the dTb. They were the opener. Probably 95 or 96.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

I'll have to check some tickets - but the first time I saw them was 1979 at the Uptown in Chicago, and Henry Paul Band was the opener. I remember a show from Rosemont Theater that had Moe open. Saw them at Alpine Valley with Ozark Mountain Daredevils ...

Checked a few more tickets -
Molly Hatchet 1981
George Thorogood 1990
Hordefest 1994 - Blues Traveller, Big Head Todd, Sheryl Crow
Albert Collins
Karl Denson
Susan Tedeschi (Summerfest 2000)
Mule (with Dave Mason), Derek Trucks Band (Summerfest 2005)
Widespread Panic
Bob Weir & Ratdog
Railroad Earth (Red Rocks)
Leon Russel, Elvin Bishop, Bluesmasters with Eric Gales and Otis Taylor (Lincoln, NE)
Robert Randolph
Moe (Pittsburgh)
Sure there are many more, may take some research ...

The Doobie Brothers opened up for the band at the Greek Theater in L.A. in 2009 for both shows. They were good and a lot of fun. "Long Train Runnin'" had the gals up and grooving. Fun couple of days!

When I first saw them in 1974 the opening acts were ...
Tim Buckley
Sensational Alex Harvey Band
John McLaughlin & Mahavishnu Orchestra
Doobie Brothers
Van Morrison

I saw The Allmans in 2009, the only time I got to see them in Dallas. Widespread Panic opened. Didn't have any idea that Panic would play as long as they did. They played for about 2 hrs, as did the Allmans. Great show, just not used to the first band playing that long.

Same here.My first ABB show.I always remember how the temperature plummeted during that show until people were lighting fires in garbage pails to keep warm.
Saw most of the same openers listed already.
I'll add New Riders of the Purple Sage(at Rutgers University)

best and most frequent-Wet Willie
Coolest experience-Dr. John in Jackson MS on the five man band tour
also
Big Head Todd and the Monsters
Gravy-truly a killer band
what was that band Butch had on Flying Frog that opened?
