My all time go-to album. It floors me every time I listen. and that has been hundreds of times in all these years. It can't be 50 years can it?

Okay, the Allman Brothers Band ...

The DJ that had this must have moved around a lot, the jacket is battered, but the discs are beautiful.  They circled the airplay cuts and I get a kick out of the jacket note:  "Great! All!"

@bird72 Several of their albums are top shelf stuff for me especially Eat A Peach.

But the one that has to be tops and also woke up the music scene to the Allman Brothers was Fillmore East.

It has to be at the top of anybody's list of Allman Brothers Band new albums.

And it is one of the best live rock albums ever.

Best Statesboro Blues they ever played in their entire history. Everyone is letter perfect and Duane's slide is the best, most uplifting and emotional slide in the history of the entire world.

I was late to the ABB party but when I finally arrived, it was one of the best things to happen to me at the time.  I got my passion for music back and countless doors opened to new bands, musicians, artists and most importantly, new friends.

Spun IMOER twice yesterday.  The best!  Cheers!

Long Live LAFE!  The Greatest!

To me, the best previously unreleased track on the 6 CD complete recordings is the 3/12 early show Liz Reed with Bobby Caldwell on timbales.  I don't care too much about Juicy Carter's contribution as I'm listening to all the drums mostly during Juicy's solo.  It's a chance to hear the original band with that 3rd drummer and it's fantastic.  It seems like Bobby was virtually eliminated in the mix in the 3/12 late show liz reed which is bizarre to me.

@joe_the_lurker.  Agree with all your observations.  There was some talk of Bobby actually joining the band but in the end Duane didn't want to step on Johnny Winters toes.  Bobby certainly added a richness to the rhythm section.  Regarding Juicy Carter I went so far as to even edit out his solo.  Just does not fit in.  My other favorite addition in the box set is the You Don't Love me from the first night.  Nice guitar exchanges.

@dzobo  Re: YDLM first night if you're talking about the early show, I had the same thoughts yesterday revisiting it.  I think it's a great example of what Butch always talked about how the original band would take chances and go in all kinds of directions.  It also sounded like they were just having hell of a great time too.

I've had this set on the shelf for a few years and knocked the dust off this week in honor of the 50th.  After hearing Juicy again on the 12th, and knowing that both shows from the 11th were scrapped due to the horns, I think we all need to raise a glass and honor Tom Dowd's contribution to the greatest live album ever with his noble pursuit to "get rid of the horns!"  It took him the first two days, but finally they were all gone by the 13th and most of the album comes from the 3rd night.  I can't imagine his frustration in the recording truck, hearing the guests ruin the magic the Brothers had worked so hard for the previous 2 years, and trying to convince a bunch of crazy hippies to nix the horns lol.  Thank you TOM DOWD!
