I was in the house for my last show ever. The boys did not disappoint. Was worried about some rust with the first show, no rust shown. Loved the set list, a nice mix. Was a reverential setting, the "last run" being palpable. So glad I made the trip from Boston.
You don't love me was terrific. I thought it went into a thread of Amazing Grace?
The highlight of the night for me was The Sky Is Crying. It was emotional. Find a recording of that tune and you will be blown away.
Solid night with moments of brilliance. Greg was in consistent form to the last 5 years. He is basically maxed out at 2 songs per set.
The high voltage and piercing sound of the Haynes/Trucks combo is off the charts amazing. It grabbed me by the spine and rarely let go. Fun to see Oteil and Warren battle licks together.
I am going next Tuesday and it will be sad to say goodbye as my run at the Beacon started in '94.
i was at the show last night , i thought it was good, but definitely a warm up show, i have been seeing the boys at the beacon since 96, last night didn't feel like it was a show that was one of the last ones. it was kindof a standard show, with a few highlights, but didnt blow me away. also Gregg didn't sound so great the first half, sounded better as the night went along. was just expecting more, this was supposed to be the anniversary show before it got cancelled. going tonight too, hopefully they dip alittle more into the catalog

I Don't know what show you where at but they smoked right out of the box. I have seen ever beacon show and last night was far from a opening run show . greggs vocals where very strong right from the start . warren and Derek you don't need to say anything about those boys where ripping it up . all in all very good show with some nice highlites .
i agree with joe-beacon. If anyone was in warm-up mode it was the crowd, not the band! Derek and Warren tore it up last night......

well i DO know what show i was at, i was 8th row warren side last night, and we all have our own opinions, but to say Gregg sounded strong is incorrect, he couldn't even sing most of aint wasting time no more, im actually listening to the show again right now.i didnt say the show was bad at all, just wasn't as good as you think it was. DEF a warm up show. all the next 5 shows will be better then last night
ABB 78 is spot on. Gregg's vocals were pretty typical of what we have heard over the past 5 or so years. He can still roar at times, but the strength and inflection is simply gone. Gregg knows it, and so does the band, as illustrated by Warren taking the lead vocals on Kitchen and others. To say or think otherwise is means you have forgotten the voice that made him one of the greatest blues singers of all time.
On the other hand, sitting in row B of the upper balcony gave me a great view of the rythm section, and Butch still brings it, that's for sure.
The highlights were the jams, Liz Reed, True Gravity, Sky in Crying and my fav, YDLM at the end of the first set. I never heard them treat YDLM that way before. They moved into Derek doing what I thought was Soul Seranade, then Warren soloed Will The Circle be Unbroken. It was really beautiful and a tribute to Duane, for sure.
Let's all just enjoy these final shows. I usually am running out of the theater to catch a train home, but on this night I stayed and soaked it all up with my brother, who has been a constant companion at these shows dating back to 1992.

one of my favorite songs of the night was Just Another rider, it was nice to see a rarely played song, and it was played very well
Did not feel like a warm up show to me. Gregg started strong and yes he flubbed a few lines, but hey that has been true for a long time. Seeing Gregg and him looking thinner and a bit frail I was pleasantly surprised at the strength of his voice in a number of songs. Thought the band was on fire, loved the set list. There was definitely a great deal of emotion from the crowd where I was sitting Orch left. When No One Left to Run with started, and the pictures of Duane, Berry and Woody came up I could feel the emotion from everyone around me. By the time Little Martha came on people where just standing and waiting for it to be finished. No mad rush to leave. The end of an era for sure. The band knows it and so did the crowd. Thank you ABB. Got nothing but love for you.
Heartfelt would describe it. At the risk of repeating myself from my review the whole show was special. The feeling In the room was different from other Beacon shows. Even the one I attended this past spring. I can't put my finger on it but something was in the air last night.. Maybe it was the lack of audience chatter underneath the music. Everything sounded so clean and clear. I bought the recording of the show last night and it is crisp. JimiMaff over and out.....
