Looks like I have a couple mile walk from the Beacon to the corner Fifth ave and 35 th street, reason to be concerned? Is there a good bar on the way I should pop in to revel with other concert goers?

take a cab.....thats a hike if u ask me.

Cab is good, also take a subway down to 34th St and walk over a couple of blocks.

It is a long walk better done during the day ,not because it is dangerous but because it would not be that interesting.
The Beacon is 2 blocks north of the #2 and #1 train.
What night are your going? If you are going on Friday or Saturday night you MUST go to BB King's after parties starting at midnight.Admission is around $20 and you will catch Jaimoe's top notch band on Saturday and Col.Bruce Hampton ( !!!!!!!! ) Friday night. If you go Friday there is a substantial chance Warren, Susan or Derek will appear. If they don't Bruce is wonderful on his own and his guitarist is special on his lap steel played like "upright", Take the #2 train one stop south to 42nd Street and walk west 1/2 a block.Best to get a ticket ahead of time as it could sell out. They have great steaks , not cheap, but makes the night a real special celebration. Can even get food at the bar.
If not going Friday or Saturday then I am not sure about bars but Blondie's has a sports bar and good wings. I suspect as we get to the Beacon there will be a few surrounding places handing out flyers for after show specials so keep a look out. Have a rocking' time in the Big Apple!

I have tickets to the Mon show on the 27th.
Thank you I appreciate the responses.
My first trip to NYC.

Depends on your legs. The streets in NYC are pretty safe 24/7. If you want to walk just follow Broadway straight downtown. It's about a two mile walk straight down Broadway which will lead you right into the heart of Times Square and further downtown. The streets around Times Square are crowded 24/7
