Wish I had gone. I did go the night before. I take the Raritan Valley Line in for shows. I can imagine the conflict I would of faced at about midnight. Last train out is 1:00am:
* Do I leave the show early?
* Do I mind sitting in Penn Station for four hours waiting for the first train in the morning?
* Or do I cough up $300 for a NYC hotel room
Wonder if anyone there had that dilemma.

1:45 - 2:20 = filter out of the Beacon, continue recollections, etc., start walking down Broadway (it's a beautiful night)
2:20 - 3:30 = get to Cosmos Diner @57th St (or if you prefer 2:45 = get to TickTock Diner @34th St) => eat a nice big breakfast
3:30 - 4:30 = walk around the now desolate Times Square / Herald Square
4:30 - 5:00 = head over to Penn, get tickets for ride home, newspaper
6:00 = 1st train leaves

LOL sorry, I wasn't so clear - I live in NYC and split for home right after grabbing some food for the train. I was just laying out how waiting for the 1st train home Wed morning could be done (having done it oh so many times before, growing up in the 'burbs around NYC)

Seems like an unreal show; if only for its length and inclusiveness - the great playing on top.
A few quick (if harping) points
1 - Wonder if this is what the original last show in March was slated to be like or if the 7 mos of drama led this to greater heights?
2 - Have to think the people who had tickets to the original final show were correct in carping. I felt the same way when I got tickets to Billy Joel's final play at Shea which became "almost final" and missed McCartney
3 - Having had tickets to the original 45th show I feel a little cheated with last Wed's Ok but not great show.
4 - Monday's show was supposedly great; but should the tickets have been the same price as Tues?
Oh well - I've had a 44 year relationship with these guys; no marriage is perfect

about halfway through the sirius rebroadcast. good lord. i think i might have had a breakdown if i had actually witnessed this in person. man, what bill graham said at the fillmore closing back in june of 1971 was never more appropriate...

Difference is, the March shows were supposed to be the last ones at the Beacon, NOT the last ABB shows - they still had all the other summer shows planned and rumors were swirling about a grand final tour, MSG dates, etc.
So, I assume the last show at the Beacon run in March was not planned to be much more than a "regular" final night at the Beacon. That said, we're lucky we got to see, and the band got to play, their "real" final run at the Beacon - they're unofficial home. Woulda kinda sucked if their final shows ever were at some random music festival or giant arena.

I dont know how I survived work today, but somehow I wound up having MORE energy than expected, considering how little sleep I got. The NY Times review of the show broke it down a little too scientifically for me, but they did capture one thing right: it went from a subdued beginning in the first set to a very emotional and high-intensity night. By the time they got to Gregg's closing remarks, and Butch and Jaimoe's brief remarks, I had chills all over. It was such a powerful experience and no, the audience may not be comprised of spring chickens, but people hung in there. HOWEVER, I dont know how people could honestly leave after the second set. There were large swaths of people in the balcony leaving after the second set was over.
I know you guys like to point out the little flubs and goofs, the only one that stands out to me was in One Way Out after one of the extended drum rolls, Derek and Warren werent ready and got caught flat-footed. They seemed to have a good laugh at it.
Oh and Gregg giddily running in place right before Statesboro Blues at the start of the second set put a smile on my face. Never saw such an extroverted display of enthusiasm like that before from him.

The thought crossed my mind, but my train pulls out of Penn at 3am. If they had still been playing at 2:15 I might have worried. But there was no dilemma. My decision was made. I would have sat around the sterile train station waiting for the next ride home rather than miss any of the show.
Wow. I see no reason to listen to music ever again. Thank you Allman Brothers Band. This is the first time in a while that I don't already have plans for my next show. But I am sure that what you guys laid out on that stage last night will last me a good long time. I'm so grateful for your talent. Peace & Love.

Just some random things to add here. I Little Martha was just a tease right into first part of MJ.
Derek played Soul Serenade in YDLM.
Will the Circle Be Unbroken was full blown with 4 verses, Gregg on the first two and Warren on the final two. Monday it was only an instrumental segment in Les Brers. I am not sure if they have sung all the verses before tonight or if was always just instrumental.
After Liz Reed Gregg said "intermission" kind of mumbling. There was confusion in the crowd. Some people near me in center orch left and did not return, maybe they relocated somewhere else. Some people cheered and clapped like an encore break. Bars were still open, plenty of beers coming in a few minutes after midnight.
Alot of people have said alot of things and I can't add much to it, just a few things here and there. Security was non existent from what I saw. Monday there were occasional ushers checking the orchestra isles. I saw none of that Tuesday. Also, with the show ending at 1:20 something, there must have been only 10 total maybe Beacon staffers in the entire building (most actually looked more like management) that I saw when the lights came on and in the hallway/lobby - sent them all home I guess at some point.
Butch had on a shirt in the first set that said "thanks".
First set I saw alot of smiles on the stage for first few songs from the band. After that they kind of settled into game face mode the rest of the night. The friends and family that I could see in the VIP stage seats, there was alot of emotion and open crying at the end. I got choked up several times on the night with it being the last time I would hear and see so many great songs played by so many great musicians, but also because of what the songs and the time together between the band meant to them. I know none of them, have never met any of them, well I did meet Oteil at a Peach party one time. But it is a connection still, Gregg gave us a heart felt thanks at the end of his words and I felt it from all of them.

right. We got our PeachFest tix in February, before the Beacon run. The Brothers were on the bill. There was never an "official" 45th anniversary show. Warren and Derek's announcement was that they were done at the end of 2014, not the end of March. I would have gladly traded places with you on Wednesday, and so would many people here.
anyway, I'm still psyched about what they did last night and I haven't even heard it yet. I'm soaking up everyone's stories, pics, etc and waiting impatiently for the d/l to be available.

I feel fortunate and blessed to have attended the last show of the ABB's legendary career. It was also my first Beacon show, despite having seen the band about 60 times since my first ABB show in '95. Here are my brief, collected thoughts that I have shared in other forums.
I told Alan Paul after the show that people can stop looking for the "holy grail" night prior to the Filmore East closing show, because this now might be that show. It really was amazing, so fortunate to have been able to see/hear it. Their performance took any of the sadness out of the event for me, because they went out on top, there is nothing left to do. I was kidding with my buddy, Josh, that I went to the show with. "...I think they just ruined me of all future music...they broke music tonight!" It was pure bliss, so proud for them. As Duane said "...jubilation," can't think of a better word than that to describe it. It was inspired and intense from beginning to end. They left nothing on the table. Echoing what Bill Graham said at the Filmore East "...it was not just quantity, but the quality of the music played." It was an amazing show that was a fitting end to the best damn band in the land!
