Some quick notes: Derek played Duane's '57 goldtop on a couple of songs (Statesboro through Ain't Wastin' Time in the first set, and I think Trouble No More) and I think he played Duane's '59 Les Paul, the Fillmore East guitar, on one or two songs. Last night was the anniversary of Bill Graham's death and Warren introduced Into the Mystic by talking about a tribute to Graham that used the song and how that inspired them to work up the song. Gregg sat out most of Elizabeth Reed and came back only for the last portion. The performances were really great even though there are some songs I missed hearing. But by far the best thing about this show for me - my last one unless I get very lucky - is that there were some genuine surprises. I never would have expected the band to work up a cover of Politician and play it for the first (and probably last) time during their third-to-last show. I never would have expected them to slip it into the middle of Liz Reed either. And Derek's solo was hair-raising. The encore, too, was a surprise - I didn't think Come On in My Kitchen would pop up at that point in the set and a double encore is a rare treat.

I guess they had a little more time left than they expected. I would've loved a Whipping Post encore, but they probably wouldn't play that two shows in a row. I was glad for the surprise there.

And very fitting. I knew of it was a Gov't Mule show Warren would do but was pleasantly surprised when the ABB did it.

That would have been "my show" ... I had tickets for March 29th but couldn't make it for October 25th ...

Gerry.....I was there for Wed, Fri and Sat. They have gotten progressively better and better each show. Saturday night would be my pick so far - if for nothing else the 2nd set alone. After the first set I though "wow, they're gonna have come out smokin' for the 2nd stanza"....and they did. Absolutlely one of the best sets you'll ever get. Jessica was an absolute beast with some of the finest guitar work you'll see from the 5:00 mark and on....Derek and Warren found an unknown gear and floored it. Couple that with a Liz Reed and these two monster insturementals are a double exclamation point in what a truly memorable night. Here is a link to Jessica....you won't be disappointed.
I will say though - Wednesday's "Black Hearted Woman" was worth the price of admission alone - fierce.

I downloaded both shows last night - I get the MunckMusic of every show I go to and at this stage in the game there's no reason not to. I haven't listened to the full shows set and I'll post some more notes when I do. But I did check out the 10/25 Elizabeth Reed because I wanted to hear Derek's solo again, and I picked up an A Love Supreme (Resolution) tease in there. Gregg's playing is missed, but it does make this version different from what you usually hear. The band is giving their all in my opinion but Oteil is just having an awesome run.
If anyone is still wondering, Gregg left during the first theme (about 2:45 in) and came back almost at the end of the drum solo. In any case going by the reviews he was fine Monday, which is great to hear- everybody wants them to finish strong.

Yeah, I remember his organ chord progression was missed during the main theme, but glad he is feeling ok. It wasn't a big detraction.
