Funny moment after the show - I'm in line at the coat check - I had lost my ticket and had to wait until everyone had their coats until they could locate mine - but anyway - this very young woman asks me - you were up front right - I say yes - she says "You Rock!!." Boy that exstacy (sp) is cool stuff - LOL

The second set really rocked - long extended jams
I would love an instant replay of last night!!
On street parking - big yeah - very surreal trip home north on the FDR - I'm the only car and the speed limit is 40 - was hard to keep it in check - LOL
Jim - You mean the John Medeski Allstars - I totally agree - this band is Govt Mule!! Big thanks to Fred and John for making last night happen for me!! Hello to Barb, Bob, Kimberly, Fred - Jim we missed you! We were right up front the entire time. I was lucky enough to get both set lists - Warren personally handed me the second set list himself - LOL A great little venue - like Roseland only smaller. Except they kept us waiting in the very small bar area for an hour just to get to the stage area and then the band had the longest sound check in the history of mankind - the band did not hit the stage until 11:15 -and I had been up since 5:30 am - damn it was six hours of being on my feet - but YES it was worth it - what a band - so much talent and energy on stage - John Medeski treats his keyboard and piano like they were exercise equipment - pounding and pounding but light - I was right in front of the keyboard so my vision was blocked for Dave Schools but I kept looking under the keyboards to see him and that amused him - lol. Dave drove the band - Warren steered - John M. was the wind - Matt thumped along, but the sax man - funny name - Ske_____ - can't remember but he cooked - he had a custom made sax that was black and gold with a small half skull near the neck - it was goregous and boy did he blow!! Set list later - have to somehow work - LOL
Oh Happy Birthday 40th Brian Farmer - one day late
Went to the Warren all star band last night. Very tough for a week night, started at 11. That being said, I think the lineup he had last night of Matt Abts, John Medeski, and Dave Schools should be the Govt Mule. They were smokin'. I left early because i have to be at work early and have an hour commute, but the stuff that I saw was fantastic. Sco-Mule was a sick jam, and Hey Joe was fantastic, as was 32-20 Blues with Skerrick on sax.
A minor gripe....Bowery Ballroom is great place to see a show, but the place is extraordinarily mis-managed. They say doors open at nine, I think I was standing outside until a little after 10. Instead of issuing tickets, you just show your credit card and they check off your name, but that takes a lot longer than ripping a ticket. Then inside I felt like they were very understaffed at the bar, I saw a girl getting all fired up at the bartender who was working his butt off, yet this girl was yelling at him because she was waiting forever. If they had one more person, they could have alleviated some stress. I thought the girl was an ingrate for yelling at this guy when he was working like a dog.
Incidentally, the band walked right by us on the way in....they must have hit a skunk on the way over because that was the smell that wafted by as they walked past.
Whoo hooo new songs perhaps a few for the Beacon.
Dust off It Ain't Over!!!!!!!!!!!

Brief Rehearsal No Problem for Allman Tour
Wed Feb 2, 7:20 PM ET Entertainment - Reuters
By John Benson
CLEVELAND (Billboard) - Gregg Allman (news) has toured plenty under the billing Gregg Allman and Friends, but the veteran artist believes the current lineup, which plays Asheville, N.C., Thursday, to be best incarnation of the group to date.
"It's similar to the last (our) but it's just a much better band," Allman told Billboard.com in a recent interview. "We have some pretty tight arrangements and we do have some loose things too. It's just some real, real, real good musicians. I mean, top of the line -- and some of these guys I've always wanted to play with. It's really a kick."
Joining Allman on stage are Robben Ford (guitar), Willie Weeks (bass), Neil Larsen (keys), Steve Potts (drums), Floyd Miles (percussion), Jay Collins (horns), Chris Karlic (horns) and Jim Sealy (horns). Because Ford's California house was damaged by last month's heavy rains and mudslides, the band had only two days to rehearse.
"It's still kick ass, let me tell you," Allman said. "It's a really good band."
As for his day job, the Allman Brothers Band has booked its annual March Madness (news - web sites) run of eight live dates, beginning March 10 and running through March 19, at New York's Beacon Theatre.
Allman said the band is also scheduled to convene at his Georgia home later this winter to begin work on the follow-up to the 2003 Sanctuary release "Hittin' the Note," which included the Grammy-nominated best rock instrumental performance track "Instrumental Illness."
With a few untitled, work-in-progress songs already in the mix, Allman expects the band's line-up -- Butch Trucks (drums), Jaimoe (drums), Warren Haynes (vocals, lead/slide guitar), Derek Trucks (slide/lead guitar), Oteil Burbridge (bass) and Marc Quinones (percussion) -- to remain intact for the project, which has no release date at present.
Considering the Allmans now release albums on their own Peach imprint through Sanctuary, the writing and recording process has evolved considerably from the prying corporate eyes and ears of the past.
"You're not rushed like it was before," Allman said. "They -- and I'm talking about the record companies-- used to ride you about this record, and it's not like that anymore. Compared to the old days with Sony, we absolutely do have our freedom."
...Remain alert!..

Hello to One And ALL:
We are looking foward to Derek's visit to the San Diego area next week. We saw Warren at 4th and B a while ago. And now for Derek in Solona Beach what a nice treat. Well that is if we can get in. Imagine that a sold out show on a Tuesday night what in the world is going on....... Rock n Roll. So "we gotta see the show". Just a little back ground, we have seen Warren, Gregg and Dickie sole at this place before. What does that mean? We support our Rock and Rollers Brother's here in San Diego, and you know what they have never let us down.
Magi
Bird, I think you hit that one spot on!
Enjoyed talking with ya tonight, Tyler...
Greetings to Tony...happy you had a great show, bro...
That Bobby Whitlock link is indeed interesting but it does contradict one published account that Eric had heard Duane play on Wison Pickett's Hey Jude and loved his playing. Whitlock's account says EC never heard of Duane. Either way is a moot point I guess. What's important is together they were other worldly and produced the holy grail of all albums.
any GBers going to see Derek Trucks Band at the Great American Music Hall and Catalyst in SF Bay area next week?
LOL!
I think he smoked a bowl, watched the Beverly Hillbillies and remembered the name wrong
Speaking of names, EC has a new baby girl as of 4pm London time. Ella May Clapton. Hmmmm....no Blues influence there!!!! 🙂 lol
Horace,
That link to the making of Layla with Bobby Whitlock was indeed very interesting.
And here I always thought the name Derek evolved from Duane and Eric. Go figure!
Now the rest of you have a little tease to go to the site and read for yourself where the name Derek and the Dominos came from.
Horace, that was great reading. Thanks man.
JohnF, hey man thanks for the jams, Jackie be the man of finnesse and the subtle sledgehammer......
BTW, your wife is observant and has good taste, hehehe I am still chuckling over that one, that was a cut it out and framer........ tell her the old geezer needed that one, in my mind it is geriatric city.....
Max - check your PMs you stoner! Good to hear from you. You coming down with that uncle of yours this year? I'll be looking forward to hanging with you! Peace Brother,
John
