Bluedud: You figure out how to tune that Les Paul yet? The jack is on the side of the guitar and both pickups work on this guitar. Now that you have a real guitar, if you have time can you send me your strat, its starting to get a bit nippy up here and I need some kindling wood for the fireplace. My wood chipper is primed and ready to go. Just wanted to let y'all know I was back to normal now. and in the words of Monty Python let the taunting commence.

Hi Folks - I'm Dan Renwick, the drummer for the Hugh Gaskins Band. I just wanted to tell you all what an honor and a blast it was for us to participate in JFD. The warmth, cameraderie, and love of music and life was something to behold, and I just want to thank all of those who made it possible. Lefty, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you - but man, I gotta tell you, I know you had to have felt the love radiating your way from Gadsden - you hold a special place in a lot of people's hearts. Best of luck to you and yours, bro. Also, a huge thanks to all of our new friends who made the San Diego contingent feel so welcome and at home. Brent - thanks for all of your tireless work in helping put it all together. Bluedad - one of the nicest guys I've ever met, despite what y'all were saying about him 😉 George - thanks for adding some real nice B3 to our mix. I'm leaving a whole lotta folks out, but you've all got some friends in S.D. - should you make it out this way we'd love to repay the hospitality. To all the bands and jammers, all I can say is you guys ROCK. That was a whole helluva a lot of talent in that room - I was truly impressed! Hope y'all enjoyed what we brought to the table as well. Finally, I want to give a shout out to the big man, Marion Sindorf (can we all just agree to call him Sam?) for introducing us to the event and making it happen for us, and a big hug and a thank you to my dad for making the drive down from N. Carolina to see us. Take care, folks - and we hope to see you again next year! Dan

i will echo the sentiments about the Gadsden gang being worried about Lefty, seemed you couldn't toss a quarter without complete strangers mentioning him, or his band.....heck, even the lady working the front desk was talking about him! lmao. it is a testement to the amount of caring that we have here as a collective group....and the JFD sort of embodies that.... anywho, i just got home after a fantabulous trip, filled with MUCH love and GREAT, fantastic, WONDERFUL friends and family. highlights for me included spending a whole boatload of time with Mister PatrickCrenshaw, who was one hell of a road companion. i am honored and privledged to call you a friend patrick! THANK YOU. He and i caught a few songs from Robert Randolph at the Tabernacle on Thursday night, it was a great way to start my weekend! Off to Macon next, for the usual stuff, including lunch at the H&H, a quick trip to The Big House, and some substantial time at Rose Hill.....then, off to Gadsden in one hell of a rainstorm.......finally arrived and met with BigDave, BlueDad, and was surprised to see my Jersey Boy Buddy SkyDogSys. I dont think i'm letting out any secrets when i say that Barry (skydogsys) blew us all away during his LizReed. Heck, he was even compared to Duane more than once by some that have seen duane play! YOU GO BOY! *MUAH*. Heck, he even called me up on stage to sing "Ramblin Man". Sheesh! heck, i could go on and on and on, but it would take up too much room. the music was great, there was a slide guitar player in attendance - Isaac Pike - that amazed us all.....he truly may be as gifted and talented as Derek, and i hope to hear more from him and his band "SpunWagon". pwew..... Had a high time dancing my ass off with the likes of Kim Payne, Haijsa, and Big Dave.....ooooo yeah...... ok, enough. thank you randy, and brent (it was totally nice to finally meet you). Sistabluez, HelenBanes, Marionsindorf (who came all the way from San Diego and was terribly exctied). Big Ann, Johnny, sheesh......so many people! awesome. foothills with the coffee in the lot....carl weaver, the honky tonk guys....Lepord Skin Pill Box Hat done by tommy taunton i belive, that cat just didnt want to go back to the room and go to sleep, he wanted to keep playing was totally hot! Oh man, by the end of Saturday night, that 2nd Street Music hall was ROCKIN........i never have been to such a freaking awesome Honkey Tonk in my life! what a goddammed great time. Randy, Brent, thank you both for all of your hardwork to make this happen for us all! I LOVE YOU GUYS! *end transmission*

As if I didn't have enough to put up with this weekend with SpotOnMyButt (aka skyponydogboy), he has a brother that plays fiddle and sings with the Honky Tonk Disciples. Plays and sings better than his brother, with the exception of coming to the Friday night hotel jam and playing a solo to Mountain Jam on the fiddle... Playing that "squirrel eating" instrument on the "MJ". Made me want to take up hunting. Don't know where his moronic brother was. Thank God...2 Sibley's....in my hotel room and me without bail money.... SHHHHHHHHEEEESSSSSHHHH!!!!!

....and another thing or two, CRS-related. Late in their closing set Sat. night, they invited Brent to sit in for the last few songs, including Statesboro Blues, not normally in their setlist. In my eyes, this is pure class on their part--these men have done it all, seen it all. It's what--20 minutes of their lives, a lifetime memory to somebody who tries to keep the music alive year after year. Do I see a trend here? Bill at Wanee, Barry at Atlanta? A little giving back? A wonderful thing, IMHO. Another cool little CRS moment Saturday, before All My Friends, Scott acknowledged and thanked Gregg from the stage for putting it back in his setlist. They found out about it the night before. And a HUGE thank-you to the bands! Bobby Purify's band, the Hugh Gaskins Band--these guys paid their own way, played for nothing (read zero, nada), only got free rooms out of the deal. And thanks to all who contributed to the silent auction, and those who bid on/bought stuff. Money from this went to the above-mentioned rooms. Also the personal financial donations. I don't know who did what, as Brent handled all this, but it made quite a difference. Thank you.

I'm going to post my JFD stuff here, instead of the Forum thread, cause a few of these need the wider audience. Not going with my usual long rambling post, split it up, try to earn a living in between. First and foremost, the thank-yous. Be it known to all that my contribution to this year's Jam For Duane was damn near zilch. Mr. Brent Sibley handled dealing with all the bands (except CRS), fronted the cash for the rooms for the bands, took care of all aspects of the t-shirts, took care of all aspects of the silent auction. Then he found out his friend Lefty and band tragically couldn't join us, had to put together a 2 1/2 hour show Friday night. He took care of the logistics for the out-of-town bands, handled the scheduling for Saturday, ran the open Jam Saturday night. When he got home Sunday, he got a call and had to spend 6 hours in the studio. Y'all try to imagine the stress. He does this for the love of what Duane Allman brought to this world, and for the love of us fans. Nothing else. Thanks to Carl Weaver for providing a place for us to have fun, giving up the things that a business normally does for several days, bring CRS to our world, making phone calls, going through the hassle of getting the grill up and running, meeting the health dept. codes--so many little things like that that don't get noticed. Giving us free reign of his business on Saturday. Thanks to Carl's hard-working staff--to Chris McLeod, who was there on the sidelines all the time, to take care of any needs, to John, on the soundboard for what--eleven straight hours Saturday? After Friday night. Thanks to Bailey, working the merchandise table for the same 11 hours. And to the rest of the staff--stocking ice, mixers, cleaning up, looking after all of us. And a huge thank you to the members of the Capricorn Rhythm Section. So many things these men could be doing, other than spending time with us, jamming Saturday, signing autographs. A special thanks to Tommy Talton for hanging around, sitting in with the Skydogs Sat. night. And thank you to my friend Ann Sandlin. She's right there for advice for me or Brent, helps behind the scenes in ways I bet I don't even know all about. She sees the bigger picture, through a different set of eyes. Doesn't have to put up with any of this, but chooses to do so. 'Twas nice to see her and Kim go onstage for the encore Will The Circle Be Unbroken Fri. night, hope somebody got a picture. Back to work....more later.

Love hearing the JFD was such a success. Congrats to those that planned and to those that traveled to attend. Barry's review (in the JFD forum thread) is almost as entertaining as his playing. I had a great evening of music Saturday night in NYC with Susan T and the dTb. I have some issues with the Nokia as far as sightlines go, but as far as sound? I thought it was absolutely outstanding. Kudos to the 'musiceers' at the board. Susan's band is sounding 'fuller' than in the past and Ron Halloway has much to do with it. He is so astute to finding just the right phrasing. His playing is never overbearing or squealing. Tasty, it is. William Green on keys was just as good as I recalled from the Blues Cruise. Fun to watch, too. Susan's voice always shocks me. There's a disconnect when you hear that voice come from her. I missed the dTb sound more than I realized but have been recharged to say the least. The special guests and sit ins were done beautifully. It never felt overwhelming-even when 5 extra people were on stage. The Susan and Mike combination on Anyday is incredible. The fun vibe and joy from the stage is palpable and is passed on to the crowd. It was an evening that I felt very special to be a part. Starting the night off gathered with good friends sharing a meal is always a major bonus. Having my two best girlfriends and their husbands join us was a special treat for me. They mean so much to me and to have them share in a night of music that also means so much to me made it a night I'll cherish.

Sounds like a great time heard and had by all in Gadsden. Sorry I missed it ( again) We went to see Paige and Bama in T-town. Highlite seeing Kenny Stabler in 12 after the game. Paige made a picture with him. Also took a couple Auburn fans and a friend from Michigan to the Strip and the game. Got my 06 Instant Lives and Skydog from Hittin the Note. Made the trip to Tuscaloosa more fun. Read in Skydog yesterday. Good Book but it was a sad day. Duane did a bunch in a short time. thank You Duane. Deer coming in now. I have seen about 15. 3 bucks. Funny thing. I was feeding my outside cats. ( Jaimoe & Ben). I came back out and a raccoon was eating with them. Rocky ran off but I am sure he will be back. I will do what I can for the Panthers Max. Ya'll have a great week. Light

Lefty: You should run for mayor of Gadsen. I lost count after a few hundred, but just about every conversation uttered at the JFD included "Prayers to Lefty and his family" You are definitely Gadsden's adopted son.
