For the most part I try to stay out of the spotlight, happy to be a supportive person while other people shine. That’s been very easy to do since I’m surrounded by so many shining stars – like *you*!

Sometimes, though, life thrusts us into situations that are anything but low key. For me that happened at Red Rocks, a beautiful open-air amphitheater in Morrison, CO formed by red sandstone cliffs.

About 45 minutes before the ABB were scheduled to appear I walked onto the stage. The crew was busy getting it set for the band so I hung out in back by the rock wall, out of the way … and noticed there was a ledge that I could climb up to and sit on if I wanted to. And I did.

You wouldn’t think a rock ledge would be comfortable, but it was. Although the sun was setting the rocks were still warm, the air was clear, the scenery was beautiful. I closed my eyes and drifted off.

A blinding light woke me up. The band was coming on and a very, very bright spotlight sweeping the stage landed directly on me. Horrified, I jumped down and scurried away, hoping no one had seen me … except for, you know, the 9,525 people in the audience. Arghhhhh.

By now there were 15 or so chairs set up for family and friends on either side the stage. I settled into one, happy to be out of the spotlight, watching my Brothers shine. Love you!

I'm glad that I was able to make it out to Red Rocks just one time, summer 2023, for The Tedeschi/Trucks Band.  I have an old buddy who lives in Denver, and he scored tickets for us.  When I say old buddy..........I'm talking a now 46 year friendship.  Such a beautiful place to see a show, and I took lots of pictures, and also got some video, of which I'll post below.  All that being said, I'll never return to Red Rocks.  Sounds like you had it made Lana, being "family".......... a seat on the side of the stage.  If you are not so fortunate, and you have physical difficulties like myself at my advanced age, you might want to think twice about going there.  The walk up the side aisles to your seat is extremely steep, and we must have been 2/3 of the way up.  Fortunately Chuck and I were able to pay a cab driver $20 to take us up to the top, then the walk was now heading down instead of up, and it wasn't that bad.  But that's not all.  ALL the seats at Red Rocks are wooden benches with no back support whatsoever.  For an old man with back problems like myself, that is just torture.  Like I said, really glad I was able to see it just once, but for me, that's it.

Here's a 60's R&B tune by Joe Tex from that night.  Be patient, it took my little Canon point and shoot a little while to focus in.  But I think the sound is decent.  As usual, TTB absolutely KILLED it that night.  In fact, that show made me a fan, and I've seen them twice this year in Miramar Beach, FL.  I had seen them around 2015 and just wasn't all that impressed.  The band has improved by leaps and bounds during those years.
