You know it's hot and dry when
OK, right now in mid Ga. it's holding around 101+ in the shade, around 30% humidity, and no chance of rain for the next 10 days.
Here's a couple of similies we use around here to say how hot it is.
It's so hot that:
The cat plays in the sprinkler.
The Kudzu leaves are curling up. (Actually saw this today.)
The Baptist preacher stops after 30 minutes because the pitcher of ice water is empty.
Mama been following the dog to see when he pees so she can point him at the roses.
The catfish are jumping out of the pond into a frying pan.
The birds have migrated to south Florida where it's cooler.
When you open the freezer to get ice, all you get is steam.
Any regional sayings where ya'll from?
My grandfather would say "Hotter than a June bride in a feather bed!"
Then there's always the "hotter than a fresh-f**cked fox in a forest fire".
Hmmm. Both of those have sexual connotations...
In southern Arizona in summer we generally avoided the subject altogether.
My grandfather would say "Hotter than a June bride in a feather bed!"
Did your grand dad ever tell you what a shiveree is, and why the old women circled around the cabin?

Not familiar with that one, but I did look it up.
What did we do before Google?
Pa. has 2 seasons July,August and winter.
My favorite as it pertains to heat...
Alison Krauss upon hitting the stage in Phoenix quite some time ago (Dead of summer)..
"This stage is hotter than a slice of deep fried hell"
took the cat to walk the trails today. Went through the creek bed and it's so dry that the places where it is usually damp, the ground is cracking. Up the hill the blackberries went from green, to red, to rock. So dry they didn't even ripen. leaves are curling up on the poison ivy, and weeds are falling over since they can't pull water from the ground.
I'm having to water the tomatoes every day, in the evening since they can't soak up enough water to overcome the evaporation during the day (pulled the first tomato yesterday).
Today it was 92, 22% humidity, and a 20-25 mph wind.
So my contribution for today is: You know it's hot and dry when the creek ain't there and you have to step carefully so you don't fall in the mud cracks.
When lakes would dry up in Arizona I always said "well, upside is you don't need a boat now."
I put a 5 gallon tote filled with water down by the deer trails, and have a spigot set to drip water in a bucket for the cats, opossums, raccoons, armadillos, foxes, dogs, the bobcat, and I'm hoping the bear drinks from the tub, not at the house.
One of our neighbors found a rattlesnake curled around a sprinkler. i guess they can get hot too.
We had shower pass through for the first time in 3 weeks. I felt like standing in it.

Mammoth Mountain has extended its season through August. There's 18 feet of snow on the top.
So Cal had the wettest/coolest May in years. The wild mustard (non-native) is growing and sprouting like never before.

Your ice cream sundae falls apart faster than :
1) Hillary's campaign
2) Bernies nomination
3) Carlos Danger
4) Jussies alibi
5) Christine Blaise Ford memory
Man you could start a thread on a recipe for deep fried wombat rinds and this guy would make it about Hilary Clinton and Democrats. Bad skip - someone put a penny on his needle already.

We've now had rain for 4 days straight. Have a good downpour, then ease off to a drizzle, which is really good when you have red, rock hard clay for a back yard.
And I have been out in it, felt good.
The raccoons and opossums have been having a good time rolling in the tall grass, I guess to get rid of ticks.
The tomato plants have soaked up so much water that several have fallen over. Tomatoes are getting big, almost big enough for fried green tomatoes.
Corn is back to full height and starting to tassel out.
