Y2K-Phase II

Having problems paying at parking meters? Do your receipts show the date as being 1920? Work at a place where the old CNC machines quit working? Was your flight grounded due to "electrical problems".
Welcome to Y2K-Phase II.
NYC has reported that some parking meters quit taking payment they thought the year was 1920, not 2020.
Several smaller chain stores have had customers ask why the receipts give the year as 1920.
A local unit of a large manufacturing company reported that their CNC machines quit working because the software doesn't recognize the servers due to the difference between the computer dates and the software dates.
Software with a 21st century date will not work with a computer that says it's 1920.
All due to the fact they haven't replaced the servers, computers, and chip boards they were told they needed to since 1999.
The "cheap fix" they opted for in 1999 was to tweak the computer to recognize dates from 00 to 19 as being from 2000 to 2019. Thus, they had an additional 20 years to replace the "tweaked" machines before they would again roll back to reading the dates as 1920 forward.
In England, almost the entire DMV was, as the Brits say, "gone titsup".

Might as well be 1920 - the aftermath of the Black Sox scandal, now the sign-stealing scandal today - Shoeless Joe belongs in the HOF!!
The new Y2K, good one 😛

It really won't be over with until 2038. That is when the real fun is predicted to start. Pretty close to being like 1998 all over again.

With the thunderstorms last weekend some of those with the Phase II problem don't have to worry about it any more.
power surges blew a lot of power supplies (it's that thing your power cord plugs into), even though they were supposed to keep UPS units or good surge protectors on them.
I only had two of the old AT power supplies, and they haven't been made in over 15 years.
So now, new computers.

Yeah, try to carry on a pair of nail clippers and snap goes the gloves for a body cavity search. Hand sanitizer will get you put on the no-fly list-forever.
