Huge lines, looks to be a big turnout. Didn't need to consume mass quantities of booze afterwards either. Since my polling place was experiencing lots of people, we were instructed to fill ballots out at a long table with not the best partitions. My voting neighbor who was a stranger had her ballot penciled in for Candidate Trump. Great sign. I smiled. We are in for a historic nite.

I voted Sunday to avoid the lines, but it still took a while. First time voting in Florida, and its reputation is earned. The staff was polite and nice, but you need more identification than airport security, which was incredibly disheartening.

The state of FL requires a FL state-issued ID (or US passport, or credit card, etc). Since we just moved to FL last month, I haven't had the chance to swap my NY driver's license for a FL license, so I brought my passport. My girlfriend brought just about every other type of ID they stipulated (except her passport), but was still denied after an hour in line. Florida accepts University-issued student IDs, but did not accept her University-issued faculty ID. Florida accepts credit/debit cards, but only if you have your photo on it, which I have never heard of, and wasn't mentioned on the list of acceptable IDs.

Luckily it was Sunday, and we had time to go home and back. But to anyone who thinks these voting ID requirements aren't meant to turn people away, you're wrong. Showing an ID, fine, ok, but it makes no sense that her NY issued ID wasn't acceptable, as it is not a requirement to have a FL-issued ID in order to register to vote. An out of state ID is recognized for any number of other identification situations, including paying state taxes, so essentially she encountered taxation without representation.

Voting should be the easiest and most accessible process. I wonder how many people today won't have the time to go home and back. The line for ID issues was 2 or 3 deep the whole time I was at the polls on Sunday. I found it pretty shameful.

Great post. Your summary line was perfect - "Voting should be the easiest and most accessible process."
Unfortunately the process has gone upside down. We should be a country that prides itself in having as much participation at the polls as possible. Voting in a democartic process is a right. Unfortunately it is becoming more & more complicated and cumbersome. The country is creating solutions for which there is no problem or a miniscule problem at best.

To say that voter suppression does not exist is crazy. One of the very worst states is North Carolina. Thankfully the courts have shot down some of the NC GOP suppression efforts. Not sure if it has changed or still in effect, but in Texas a college Id is not acceptable, but a concealed handgun permit is good to go. Go figure that one.

It is a breeze if you vote early.

Whats all the whining about? its a pretty straightforward, easy process unless you happen to parachute into the state weeks before an election. If you had obtained a FL drivers license I am sure you would have no difficulties at all. Think of all the hoops you have to jump thru to go fishing in different states and the hefty fines you pay if you get caught without a license.

The whining is idiots who wait until the last minute then wonder why there is a huge line. Same kind of people who block the intersection and cause gridlock. Cattle.

Goobs, buddy, the issue is that their list of forms of identification is false, it is no longer a straight forward process (we are talking about Florida, remember). We hardly parachuted into town, we had our ducks in a row. There is no other purpose to go obtain another form of identification when an out of state driver's license is recognized for nearly every other purpose of identifying a citizen.

And there is nothing in the constitution about your right to fish. Voting is kind of a bigger deal for everyone. Fishing without a license should be more heavily scrutinized (and paid for) because it is a natural resource, often done on public land. There is no comparison, unless you voted for this guy:

Why are you looking at someone else's ballot?

old high school habits are hard to shake when you don't know the answers to questions on the test.
